Same overheating and rolling shutter problems to the 4 years old $1200 Sony A6300.

I don't see it here or on the full spec list, only for time-lapse movie mode, or the separate 1080p120fps slow-motion recording mode.

@ade towell There are two ways of looking at this, glass half-empty or half-full. Andrew made a good post about this: https://www.eoshd.com/8k/a-closer-look-at-the-canon-eos-r5-lower-quality-4k-mode-to-avoid-thermal-cut-off/
R5/R6 can be used without overheating issues. If you want maximum performance (which no other hybrid camera can currently give you) well you are prone to thermal cut off limits and high RS. I think it's a fair trade-off situation and Canon are being open about it as opposed to Sony.
Concerning the R6 4K crop, it is of x1.07. It apparently takes a 4K DCI image and truncates it to UHD. No biggie.
As for the S1H being a better hybrid video camera, that is subjective. The poor AF and weight (1Kg vs 680g) makes it a no go for me personally and if you want FF no crop 4K60p in 10-bit.. only R5/R6 will give you that. But of course YMMV.

I think the cause of all these overheating problems is pretty easy to fix.
    MAKE THE BODIES LARGER.
It is a race to the bottom, to make / keep camera bodies smaller and lighter. Whilst, on the other hand, the specs and capabilities are increasing. It's like a identidy crisis. What do you want?  A smaller body? Or better specs? You can't have both apparently. Not yet.
Panasonic got everything right with their S-line. Except for AF. Which is something they could fix.
Even the S1, which has no fan, doesn't overheat. I've tested it at weddings in the sun, at 30c and it keeps on going. No recording limit as well. Why can it do this? I believe because of the bigger body. Simple physics.
Of course Sony A-bodies overheat. Look at how small and fiddly they are.
If people would just get over the fact that their camera bodies have to become a big larger and heavier to get it to function properly, then this wouldn't happen.

If anyone wants a video workhorse then the R5 doesn't seem to fit the bill.
I am quite serious when I am wondering about the GH6, the GH5 wasn't perfect, but it was a non-nonsense video tool, pretty reliable and able to bring food to the table without asking the sun and the stars.
The only issue I had with m43 was always the ISO capabilities, GH5S solved that as well, what you didn't have, was a true hybrid capable to be excellent on everything (GH5S was mainly a video camera, let's face it, and GH5 was quite behind it in low light).
If the next GH6 is close to what we want it to be, it can be THE hybrid camera to beat.
We delivered a lot of TV episodes on the biggest TV networks here with GH5 and 12-100mm Olympus, we never had any real issue and that was the fastest and smallest combo we could use for some type of jobs usually on scorching heat (green house effect hits the Mediterranean really hard..).
Sony without any 10bit option and overheating/battery issues was never an option for this kind of jobs, we tried GH5+Olympus lenses, and we did fine.

Tell us, you're an alien. Or you were living in a cave long before Covid-19 afflicted the world.
I saw it on Newsshooter.com too. I am curious how much longer it lasts with it, and how it affects the image.

Suddenly, I feel, all of us Panasonic M43 users take reliability for granted. The fact that the GH5/GH5s can record for hours, like other GH cameras before them. No overheating rubbish. We can even record whole concerts with the battery grip, even popping one battery out while the one in the camera continues (and swapping between SD cards, since we can remember, like 3-3.5 years ago).

If I had the money, this looks a nice camera and  much of the market it is aimed at will LOVE it.       The R5 is ridiculous to me (more a look what we can do type thing than something most people can actually use as things go).      Of course you CAN get the R5 and not/hardly use its headline features but that is a large tax to pay for that.
Next up, I expect Sony to both surprise and disappoint and I think Sony really needs an A7iv against the R6 (for actual sales) more than it needs a A7siii against the R5 (for status).

I totally agree with you Andrew, the R5 is a pro camera with regards to pricing and as a stills camera it certainly seems to fit the bill, but as a cinema tool or a documentary video camera it’s seems to me that it’s not reliable enough for a wide variety of applications.
The overheating notwithstanding, really I think it makes a remarkable difference if a camera has 24 ms or 30ms readout speed in video.
As a youtube camera it’s probably great, certainly if you’re a “creator” which basically means reviewing gear with the intent of creating good little consumers out of your followers.

He then says in next sentence that he hasn't had the chance to record for a very long time 😂
And that Canon hadn't put a recording limit on it.
    Which isn't true.
Besides it's the usual marketing video, so he ain't saying what modes, how long he recorded in 8K and 4K for, what the ambient temps were (looks fucking freezing from the location) or any other meaningful info that would have helped users to know the score.
    Typical hype piece.

I really don't see many practical advantages in the R5 over the R6, let's wait for a reliable RS measure at 24p before we make the choice, I think after that many could take R6 route.

Micro HDMI is a big disappointment. Especially due to the 30min record time requiring an external recorder for interviews etc. Even more so if that's the only way to get intra frame files.
Lack of ALL-I in 4K 24p was surely possible if it can shoot IPB in 60p. That's annoying. Though 170mbps h265 is a fairly beefy bitrate, even for 10bit, isn't it? Will have to wait and see what motion looks like on clips.
As has been said the big test is going to be rolling shutter. In some situations the IBIS will help with this in comparison the the 1DXIII but it'll still look like shit if it's that bad.
Oh and not recording video simultaneously to both cards defeats the purpose of dual slots for filmmakers!
Hopefully SmallRig or someone will come out with a discreet little clamp that solves the Micro HDMI issue.

Everyone is lining up to buy the camera purely based on specs. There are so many intangibles yet to be learned:
Rolling Shutter Dynamic Range Highlight Roll-off Detail in the shadows (Are the blacks crushed?) Flavor of CLOG How strong is the low pass filter (Maybe great for skin, but maybe not so good for when you need detail.)? ISO limitations before noise becomes a factor (Especially important when shooting at high frame rates like 120p) Record length limitations I really hope this camera is as good as it looks on paper. I want one if the quality of the footage is there! But what happened to the Canon cripple hammer? Is it gone or does it still exist.

GFX100 is medium format! 100 megapixel. 28ms in 4K is a small miracle. Also, doesn't look like 28ms to my eye so not even sure if that's correct.
S1H 4K 24ms is also very good, given it isn't pixel binning or line skipping from the 6K.
Sony A9 has fastest sensor in the business.
Canon seem to give us great rolling shutter performance in 4K/60p but cripple it in 24p to protect the Cinema EOS line.
    It's same old, same old!
Yes £4k new standard pro price for mirrorless cameras.
It's far cry from the GH2 days isn't it!
Companies have finally realised how much money pros have!
    Or did have until coronavirus.
I think we'll be seeing some discounting quite soon after the initial hype and pre-orders have died down.
The R6 is more interesting for most people. I may just review that and leave the R5 till later.

    Kazuto Yamaki is admirable.
He recently agreed to be interviewed on EOSHD, and I hope to bring you that soon.
I think we should think more about the corporate vs private business philosophy of camera companies.
Sony just released the 14-24mm F2.8 GM for $3000. At a time when a lot of pros have less work due to the pandemic and downturn in the economy, I think this pricing is sheer greed.
Meanwhile Sigma have their own 14-24mm F2.8 of similar or even better quality - $1200.
And their affordable 16mm, 30mm, 56mm primes for APS-C - all F1.4 and exceptional performance.
Sony and Canon will likely want $4000+ for their latest cameras.
A reminder that all large publicly listed companies exist purely for the benefit of making as much money as possible for shareholders, and it's also about moving manufacturing to where labour is cheapest - with all the environmental and social impact that brings to the planet too.
Sigma are different and we should support that.

So yeah, another example of cutting and pasting, pretending it's his own 'inside info'.
Could be complete bullshit for all we know.
PS - on a lighter note, the GFX 100 with f/w 2.0 and 50mm F3.5 is reducing my will to buy the EOS R5 by a factor of a lot. Perfect AF, enormous epic look, and Fuji's colour science in 10bit is just... Cinema on a stick.

    @androidlad
I am going to ask that you put a link to your sources.
I've let you continue for a long time as a lot of your posts contribute to our understanding and inform us about leaks.
But we need more transparency from you and a better way to validate the info which we have no way of knowing if it's authentic.
I also think if you are passing off other people's info as your own, it isn't really ethical (like with the Graeme Nattress quote)
And if you are the source, leaking inside info from a company you work for then that is most likely illegal.
So... the URLs from now on please, or a ban.
    It's up to you.
