hansel got a reaction from Eduardo Granadsztejn in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
For me it feels like the Pocket is a cinema camera, basically fully manual also for lenses etc. I feel like if I pay 2 grand for an A73 I would then be stuck with a "system" and need to invest in their lens setup, same with GH5. The "system" obviously brings big advantages, the drag is I would instantly feel like I have to now get a 20, 28,..., 50, 85, 300mm plus maybe a 24-120 (if something like it exists. The P2 is just a "sensor" with all it's limitations. It doesn't demand anything but a fairly "professional" approach to shooting stuff.
They don't call him @Anaconda_ for no reason.

From the top of a 1d listed on ebay, you either haven't owned any Canon pro body or you didn't beat it up. Can you see the metal under the paint? All the swearing in the world doesn't change that fact. By your own definition, the body is clearly metal. SMH.

I'd love to stop talking about what materials Canon cameras are made of and if resolve should or shouldn't be included. Seriously.

Anything new to contribute? I'd love to get off these topics.

Amazing debate guys on wether or not BM make people pay for resolve and about camera bodies... Seriously..

You do realize a lot of that metal is exposed and just painted black, right? In case you've never handled one, its not completely covered in plastic. So that would fit your definition of a body. As far as I know, there aren't many exposed bones on the human body. There are plastic bits tacked onto it, but its still the body, your responses are just some BS semantics "I'm right, you're wrong" game. I'll refrain from further comments on a BM P4k thread.
Cheers

Seriously, do you not understand how business works? What do you think the scale of value is for camera parts vs a resolve license? Obviously BM wants people using their software but if you really think this is anyway screwing people over you are kidding yourself. The value of the software is insignificant for them vs hardware cost of the camera.

It’s like going to Walgreens and they have a buy one get one sale of paper towels. You are paying full price for the first roll of paper towels and the second roll you are getting for free. You cannot go to the counter and say, well I already paid for paper towels last week, so I don’t need the second roll of free paper towels, will you please deduct the price of the paper towels I paid for last week from the paper towels I am buying this week.

If you need the software or not, it’s irrelevant to the price of the camera.

If you are lucky it might come earlier than September, but you look like a couple of cm here and there will not kill you

Agree, I just wanted to point out that this is not what people think as the lightweight & superstrong "carbon fiber", but a"heavy" traditional plastic (which is already used by camera manufacturers) reinforced with tiny carbon fibers....

That reminds me. I need a hair cut!
anyway, if you put anything above it be careful not to interfere with the airflow too much
It is more the case that Arri feels they only own ONE really really good sensor which is ready for production (I'm sure they working on others). Thus the easiest way to get true 4K from it is just to scale up the size of the sensor Itself

mmm.... BM says "The carbon composite material consists of a high strength polymer that’s reinforced with carbon fibers".
Which looks like thermoplastics with tiny carbon fibers REINFORCING IT, (as they do with GLASS FIBERS) not like CARBON FIBERS layers filled with resins as it done with proper commonly known as "carbon fiber"...2 different materials AND process (injection moulding vs laying by hand layers of carbon fibers cloth into moulds).

You might be used to associating HDR with photos and have been programmed to dislike that, as we all know that can be way overdone. HDR with video is nothing like that though, you should give it a fair chance. It's got little to do with extreme gone wrong photoshops... and more with actual high dynamic range, which is more about nuance than it's about something screamish.

Cinematographers use diffusion filters on the Alexa and it’s only 2.7K, 3.3K at open gate. The problem is camera resolution has been decided upon by monitor and TV manufacturers. Now if you don’t shoot 4K, your image supposedly doesn’t have enough resolution?
In my opinion, I think a Pocket 2 could have had a 2.5K image and be equally as appealing. 4K at this price point, is usually best for downscaling, so it will be interesting for me to see what the downscale looks like from 4K P2 footage.
But for the most part, I’ll shoot 1080p at the two base ISOs, on a clean sensor, with cheap SD cards. I already have a bunch of Canon batteries for my 5D3, so if battery time is bad (I suspect about 30-45 minutes) I’ll just swap them out. I’ll get a Rode NTG mic, and maybe a couple XLR lavs, for in-camera audio and have an amazing little, run and gun cinema camera... no need to rig up this little beast.

I would like to see someone make a battery grip for the Pocket 4k that could somehow house something like the Samsung ssd drive within it, can house an extra one or two batteries and have a usb-c connector lock device like the mini hdmi clamp found on some dslr cages. Would sell like hot cakes!
Not keen on that idea, makes media managing that much harder on busy shoots.
