Here is a hint that on this event Panasonic (and DJI) will present LIDAR type of auto focus tech. Saw on one of the pictures the guy from MAKE. ART. NOW. youtube channel. He doesn't use Panasonic cameras but had an extensive review of LIDAR tech on DJI RS3 gimbal and also reviewed DJI Ronin 4D. He is more connected to DJI than Panasonic. So DJI seems to be involved and it will be most likely a joint event and presentation. Lets see :)

Its most likely either a new camera made in joint with Leica, S1 mark 2 or the S5 mark 2 otherwise that would not bother gathering big YouTubers if there was no new system to test out.
But we are all dreaming of a LiDAR module that works on all their cameras.
I guess a man can dream.

Its ironic that Panasonic really only lacks good autofocus otherwise it be the be all end all system, apart from ridicules weight on their GH6 which weights more than S5 and their huge bulky first party lens selection.
With the L mount you need focus pull system and even the lightest bulk you can strap on you are still looking at 3 - 4kg of girth to carry around be it a cage system or a gimbal.
But the fact is, there nothing thats as good as S5 at least to my knowledge specially in this price range when it comes to video and hybrid functionality, L-mount is highway robbery and having been Samsung user for 8 years, I am a little worried this mount is not gonna go anywhere, so you kind of invest into glass that can only be used with cameras that are gonna grow old and when they break its sayonara.
Olympus OM-1 seems like a good hybrid system but barely anyone uses it for video which raises some flags despite having 6ms sensor readout even in 4k60 ProRes RAW.
Panny GH6 is cool but heavy and still unreliable AF but wonderful image quality.
Canon is overpriced FF bodies and glass, their R7 is crippled beyond help, 4k FINE mode is 30ms which makes it unusable to anything but scenery shots, 4k lineskipping has good rolling shutter but then you are reduced to a softer image than NX1 from 2014.
Sony horrible IBIS, horrible body prices, horrible CFA output because they are so Goddamn tiny to allow better ISO and a lot of their bodies have 25+ms readout speed, might have been acceptable in 2012 but not in 2022.
Its just endless compromises, all I want is a camera thats got 15ms or less rolling shutter, shoots good 10bit video so you can actually work with this crap, with a fast zoom f2.8 lens weights in total under 1kg so you can actually use this son of a gun on a gimbal thats compact and an autofocus system that does not hunt.
Fujifilm probably has the least compromises, the video AF-C is better than Panny but still has reliability issues when it for some reasons switched to DFD for no reasons.
Its IBIS is piss for video panning but damn good for shots that requires no movement and excellent for video, Fuji also has pretty decent lens selection that does not cost your right testicle. XH-2S is still pretty pricy but has a lot going for it among faster sensor than A7s3
Its like they all have an agreement not to overstep the golden boundary of the ultimate super camera, oh I forgot Nikon, imao only their Z9 is worth attention from a hybrid user, none of their other bodies has 10bit video and requires external recorders, more bulk and none of these ext recorders are weather sealed and are awful in cold weather. Z9 is a monster truck though, its even got the price of one.

Well I've just edited 2 weddings where I used the OM-1 and have to say, dodged a bullet with that one.
The 4k 50p is not even in the same conversation as Panasonic's S35 crop from full-frame. Not even in the conversation with the 8 bit out of the S1R.
Thin and horrid colour. Trying to match it is a nightmare. Low light, rubbish.
Fortunately, I only used it for long static stuff rather than a couple of hundred clips, but nope, thank fcuk I stuck with L Mount.

A $1000.00 for me in retirement, or anyone not making a living doing this stuff is a bridge too far. High end lenses are a hard sell for non pros. Sure if you are going to stay on that platform for years and years but thigs are moving Way too fast to stick to one brand now. There is just a lot of great stuff out now. Heck look how cheap the Sony A7 IV is. And that is a pretty amazing camera for the money.

Almost all OM System videos are people on the outdoors, covered in snow to the waist, shooting under monsoons, base jumping inside an active volcano...their intended demographic for this camera is well defined.

(the last one is a joke, IP53 is not rated for volcano swimming)

On R5/R5C 8K/4K Fine it is 15.5ms, on 4K standard mode and 4K50p it change to 9.6ms, on 5.9K RAW APS-C it is 11.5ms
On R7 the 4K Fine mode it is around 31ms according to the graph, so if 4K50P is 14.5ms then I think 4k non standard will be the same as 4K50p.
I knew Gordon done the test of 4K fine, 4K standard and 1080p quality comparison on the R5, 4k standard is still way sharper than 1080p.

SMGJohn reacted to Emanuel in WTH cinematic means or doesn't mean for such customary crap?
Something that really pisses me off is this mania of repeating the same "solution" (?) ad nauseam when something is coming into their empty hands...
Before it was the shallow DoF from 35mm adapters and HDSLR introduction...
Slowmotion came later and so on.
    And on and on.
Now it is the 10-bit banding-free skies from people who look like to have found for first time the acronym DR, the word latitude or whatever they call it cinematic. Oh well.
Please do not repeat it or no new resource will produce anything. First definition of cinematic.
Zoom out. Forget the story, sound design and talent of the shooter's sample. The camera. Also. Because to be cinematic is much beyond that. More than resources, the way they're managed.

Panasonic should make a LiDAR adapter that just plugs into the hotshoe and firmware update to their 2018+ cameras and allow it to communicate with the DFD system, Panny boy would make a boatload of money doing that.
As for Fujifilm, in my experience its marginally better than Panasonic, the GH6 is kind of on par with the XH-2 series cameras so long you have contrast and good lighting, problem with Fuji seems like they do not care, they did not fix their IBIS during video mode at all, still horrible, worse than Sony (hows that even possible???) and their AF performance is massively dependant on their lenses, absolutely terrible design if you ask me, a lens should never impact AF performance other than speed of transition thats mostly down to the motor in the lens.
Fuji cameras all seem made for photography specifically with video being afterthought, but then they release stuff like XH-2s which is a video beast if you ask me, its got the lowest rolling shutter of a semi-professional camera, shoots crazy good video apart from its 4k120 which is very noisy.
But then you get stuff like poor video AF and poorer IBIS.
Whereas Panasonic nails the IBIS and are absolute feature beasts even their 1 inch pocket cameras are specced to the limit.
Its soon 2023 and manufacturers are bent on making sure no one makes a camera that is jack of all trades, why buy new products when camera that does it all exist?

Companies leaving China is duo to the rising production costs which is inherent in any Capitalist economy, thats why a lot of phone manufacturers assemble their devices in countries like Malay and Vietnam now duo to cheaper labour power and cheaper land costs.
Canon which mostly make profit margins in their high end camera segments and lens selection past 10 years probably is looking to move production elsewhere for their lower end offerings probably to countries like Philippines, Vietnam, Malay or Indonesia.
They essentially need places with stability, a competent workforce, low costs in land, construction and running costs but also very cheap labour, labour costs are the biggest hurdle for big business to overcome.
Even Chinese companies produce stuff outside of China whenever they can these days, like in Vietnam, Thailand or North Korea which ironically has the best equipment and workforce for production costs comparable to other third world countries.
Canon and everyone else realise that maintaining production in China in the long run is not good, rise of labour costs means the products will get more expensive, I am sure everyone has seen the rise of prices in technology past 10 years, its mostly tied to the Chinese labour cost rising.
You can see this trend as well with america and European countries in the 60s and 70s when Japan was the factory of the world, once Japanese labour costs went up, so did cost of products made in Japan, thats when companies moved their production to likes of China and South Korea.
I suspect Africa will be the next big expansion for Corporations to seek out for their hilariously low labour costs, either that or automation with robotics will become the norm for low cost production.
Big business aint stupid, they too realise if they cannot keep their costs low as possible to maximise profit, people wont buy their products at certain prices, thats bad business no matter how shoddy made it is as long as the price is right people will buy.

Yeah I agree about the X-T4 being ergonomically awful - I'm not sure how people pretend it isn't unless you're just using a small Fuji prime like the 35/2. Even with the vertical grip it's bad.
That's why I recommended the X-S10 or X-H1. Proper grip like most other cameras, so you can actually hold the thing and not have to contort your hand and fingers awkwardly to reach the shutter button.
Both the X-S10 and X-H1 will do F-Log internally, but it's 8 bit only. X-H1 can output 10-bit. X-H2 should be a killer camera.
From what you want, it sounds like the X-S10 is the way to go, unless you want the 10-bit output ability of the X-H1.
AF tracking will be better on the X-S10 but still inferior to the Nikons.
Panasonic S5 also another option if you are *heavily* into video. That's a no brainer if you really want great video specs. No hybrid out there offers that level of features at that price. But autofocus tracking in video is terrible (it's fine for photos). The Panasonic lenses are very good too, though some are quite expensive, but the 20-60 kit lens is a real gem, as is the 85/1.8. Plus you have all the Sigma lenses available.
The Panasonic S5 will definitely be the closest ergonomically to the NX1, with a lot of similar features except massively better. Panasonic's IBIS is fantastic too.
