On a side note, I never liked the term "creator" from the start. It's pretentious.
No matter how awesome a video I make is, I didn't cReAte anything. I captured something that God created, and edited it into something cool. I produced something, but I didn't create shit.
Imagine an architect looking at a building he/she designed and declaring: "I created this".
But it makes people who make a basic-ass video or reel feel good and important, so that's one of the reasons it's so popular IMO.

well good camcorders had 4:2:2 color sampling more than a decade ago, and often had insane versatile zoom lenses, so the sensor size argument is kind of moot. The 8k out of a phone will still probably be worse than hd out of a camcorder from 10 years ago. an original bmpcc will probably resolve more detail than video coming out of a phone with an 8k sensor. its a waste of anyone’s time.

The idea of editorial independence was enshrined in the BBC’s founding Royal Charter in 1927, which stated the corporation should be “independent in all matters of internal control.” This was a way of ensuring the BBC’s coverage was not subject to political interference or pressure from any external sources such as the government.
Now the editorial independence of the BBC is at best completely neutered by the Conservative Party. Many talented journalists have left. In many respects the best news organisation in the world has taken to sourcing stories purely from Twitter and social media.

8k phone for an 8k tv, what a waste:)
Lumix G7 will look better on a 4k tv than that:)
what a waste of resources it is, all that madness of 8k from a phone on power hungry 8k tvs. whate a waste regarding energy for production, resources and power hunger when used.
my two cents. but congrats on having owned the g7. a great but humble cam. love it. classic 😊
now best video quality from cheap phones is a hot topic imo.

Get a cheap 4k cam instead, if funds are low. Much better than any phone and much cheaper than a XH2! 😂
Used Lumix G9 does perfect 4K 10bit HLG for 500 USD, additional VLog profile per purchase possible. Awesome former flagship camera with all bells and whistles. G85 does nice 4K for 300 USD, GX85 for 200.
    Much cheaper than 8K XH2 and a 8K TV. 😂
    That saves you lotta funds.
And saves the planet too a tiny bit:)

You must have missed the bit about it needing to be 8K for 8K TVs. 😉 I have had a better camera than the G9 for 4K, the XT3. I have an OK one at the moment with the A6400 (which has far worse video options, like 100Mbps bitrate), it's more for travel and street photography.
Those prices sound amazing for the Panasonics. Used Fuji prices have been going up a lot, maybe M43 is seen as dying now? Are M43 lenses cheaper now too? I do sometimes miss my G7 and one or two lenses I can't use on APSC, like the C mount Pentax Cosmicar 25mm f1.4.

The 6K Pro is a vastly better pick-up-and-go camera than the 4K – decent internal battery life, EVF, tilting screen, NDs, better in the hand. So in that way, it's more fun. I gotta say though, I went the opposite way. Blackmagic pocket cams to Sony mirrorless. I'm having way more fun now lol.

the pocket 4k is probably the best video camera you can buy for the money. however, it is annoying.
the pocket 6k is more expensive, with image quality that is about 3% better at most imo, but every annoying bit about the 4k is extra annoying (especially battery life) on the 6k.
the 6k pro is more expensive than the 6k, but fixes many faults of the regular 6k with its quality of life upgrades. So imo its not even worth considering the regular 6k. Even though i have really liked using it due to its NDs and bright screen, you are kind of stuck with an annoying mount: canon photo lenses arent particularly pleasant to work with, and cine lens wise you're most likely gonna have to rent, because your selection is pretty small, and Sigmas or Zeiss CPs aren't particularly affordable. If you're looking for a B cam for a more serious cine camera, you could just convert the mount to PL permanently.
Lens wise the 4k just rocks, Olympus photo lenses are good for manual focusing, and the MFT cine meikes are insanely good for the price. Since everyone is so convinced that MFT is dying out, this means that they are insanely cheap on the second hand market. I myself hate speedboosters, but you can find some qualitative PL and EF adapters for a bargain occasionally online as well. This means that your selection of viable lenses is basically endless. I can basically live with most of the grievances with this camera, because the footage you can get out if it is so good, and it costs nothing compared to anything else.

I think "fun" is probably better defined as "less annoying" when it comes to these cameras.
In that respect, I'd say the 6KPro with the EVF as you then have two ways to address the major annoyance of the monitor screen.
The internal ND is obviously a massive boon anyway but particularly as you might be using a mixture of EF and EF-S lenses that have wildly different filter thread sizes.

The codecs are the same, except for C300's 12-bit 444 2K. As for Log, Canon Cine line has Clog2. The hybrids only Clog & Clog3. Grading is great and pretty effortless on the R series, anything you throw at them pretty much comes out good. I find I need to tweak much more on any other log profile.

Another thing that made me laugh about dry boring lab tests, is I had literally just watched a 6 minute film that someone had shot and CRAFTED using the S5ii.
The camera was just one component and pretty much ANY camera of the last 10 years would have produced a near identical result.
    But anyway... 🤪

Ok, I really love the image coming from the C500 MKII. Forum members stated that the Log profiles on the Canon Hybrids are not up to the quality of the C300 MK2. Regardless the sometimes mushy codec of the C300II in low light, i really love how the camera responds in grading. C500 MKII is a dream to work with in color grading. So how doe the R5,6,8 full frame cameras compare to that when it comes to the pracitcalities of color grading?
    @FHDcrew Highly deserved! 🙂

Well, gh4 started a wave, first affordable 4k cam with good and slim codecs plus pro features in a pro body. Feels more solid than a Gh5 in my hand. Pro feel like my S1. Anyway. Love Canon too and my Sony Fs700 and PMW F3. Got a 5d2 and eos m used for hard to beat prices. Would love sell my S1 and snap myself a S1H thanks to AND despite posts on this forum. 🙂

PannySVHS reacted to Michael S in How are you converting V-Log to "normal" colour?
When people say you must overexpose vlog by 2 stops, they mean the exposure meter must say +2. The reason for this is that the exposure meter assumes a standard gamma curve and not a log curve. As mid gray on a log curve sits two stops above mid gray compared to a normal gamma curve, the exposure meter must say +2. In my opinion this is a user interface design error from Panasonic which only leads to confusion. So the proper answer is that you must expose correctly, and therefore ignore the exposure meter when shooting in vlog. Use the spot meter (which switches to EI in vlog) or waveform. Spot meter must say +0 EI and mid gray on the waveform sits on 42%.

Panny has been in the video, camera and broadcast market for very long. Canon had no broadcast cameras for decades. 🙂
2014, Panny started the 4K revolution. GH2 had lotta charisma, Lumix still has to me. Sometimes our assumptions and conclusions become a bit shaky after series of posts and replies.  @FHDcrew posted a spiffy video shot with Nikon z6 to external prores. Looking better than 99% of youtube stuff. Some of the best looking stuff on this forum regarding colour and overall craft of the finished video. Solid!

An attempt at a more "filmic" grade with the Z6 NLOG image.  It’s actually pretty darn simple. In Davinci Resolve I converted the image to rec709 with basic exposure/contrast adjustments. Then I transformed the color space from rec709 to cineon (designed for this specific LUT). I applied one of the film LUTS built into Davinci resolve.  Then I add a glow effect to bloom the highlights. I increased saturation and adjusted the  color temp to warm it up.  That's pretty much it!

You can push and pull Nikon FLAT a decent amount!  Obviously will still break if you push it too hard but it does well for not being a LOG profile
