  1. Hey!

how does it come C100 II looking too soft?

As far as I read, it has some of the highest resolving 1080p images around. Heck, my Lumix G6 really has plenty resolution. How big is the screen?

Just recently somebody asked about the AF100, a camera with supposely lower dynamic range than a Canon 7D, and lower perceived resolution than a GH2,

if one considers the wisdoms of various internet platforms.

Still, in the recent EOSHD thread about the AF100, a poster came up with the notice that one of the highest adrenalin action films of the last ten years

has been filmed with it- The Raid. There is plenty of BTS footage on the web.

So, how big is the screen supposed to be, if C100 with its resolution is not supposed to fit the bill?

I think choice of camera should be yours anyway as you are the DOP.

What did you shoot your first feature with? If you´re used to the camera and happy with the results, why not use it again?

Would you like to post a link to the trailer of your first feature?

Other than that, Sony F3 is a camera a lot of people are admiring. Ironfilm even owns one and has been giving me good

reasons to have it on my radar. I would really like to use one. Right now I´m still learning with my Lumix G6.

So Sony PMW F3 it would be for its sensor, ergonomics, external 10bit,

or JVC LS300 for its 1080p 4:2:2 Broadcast codec and additional internal 4K or C300 for its Broadcast codec, sensor, ergos.

All of em have internal NDs. The Sony might cost around 2000-3000 USD, JVC 3000, C300 maybe 4000-5000.

C300 only has EF mount, Sony FZmount and JVC m43mount- tese are more flexible lenswise than EF mount.

Oh, don´t rely just on selling the then purchased expensive 8000USD camera equipment over here as your only possible marketplace, because three forummember have been

victims of a scamming account very recently. Trusting a new seller with such amounts of money involved is rather a thing of harder choice or decision since then.

    cheers

Do you need 4K? Do you need slow motion (beyond 1080 60fps that is)?

No? If so, then get a Sony PMW-F3. Goes for next to nothing secondhand. I own one, will be shooting a feature film this year with it (hopefully with two at once if we can squeeze buying a 2nd F3 into the budget).

    Hey IronFilm,

Do you have some footage you shot with the F3, maybe internal 8bit and external 10bit?

    cheers

    Hallo Tweak,

I really like the movement of the fore- and background planes against one another. Is that an effect of the anamorphic lens? Also, does it only do the stretching towards the sides or towards top and bottom as well? I actually start to like the colors I am getting out of Panasonic G6. After a while of grading in Davinci a lot of DPX files are starting to build up a nice library of shortcuts for grading.

On the GH4 would it be a 4:3 crop out of the 16:9 4K crop of the 4:3 sensor? If the crop for 4K is around 2.3, how much is it for the 4:3 mode?

    cheers

It is possible, that we are talking to a person, who is still in posession of accounts under the name of Ebrahim- which is not the poster´s name nor identity.

That poster being still in need of that account for whatever thinkable purposes. A video would rather clarify questions of identity.

  4. 10 minutes ago, AaronChicago said:

    26?

Adds up to that, if the numbers on the left are the birth date showing day, month and year. They are reappearing further to the right again.

The person on the IDs photo and on the BTS photograph and the other ones SEEMS genuine and additionally MIGHT be the poster.

The IDs photo and IDs data MIGHT belong together. 26 does not equal 21.

  5.

One thing for sure, this incident is making me aware of the millions of people involved in alter egos, vastly adventerous internet personas and stuff.

I would never have expected getting an outlook on the web2.0 like that through EOSHD.

This thread made me check some of the social media platforms which have been named in these posts.

Never imagined what a jungle it is. An exponential manufacture of thought, impulse to activity, may it be for the better or the worse, may it be for peace or other causes.

  6. Don´t know, might be a tiny bit of wishful thinking involved, nah, GX80 looked great. At 3.50 ungraded it looked the best to me, maybe because of WB or different different light.

At the beginning you underexposed the GX80 a lot. To protect the highlights? How many stops did you push it in post? Seems like the lower mids and the darks are affected by strong macroblocks and lack of shades in the darkest parts. Great informative test, even more if you have a chance to give a few background infos about the technicalities of your test. Great vid and work. Thank you.

Oh, maybe you should put this vid up in a separate thread, so it gets the attention and discussion the topic is worth of!

Maybe in the GX80 thread as well.

    Cheers

Plus, I've jumped back into Premiere editing (with some Resolve) and the hardware upgrades on the post side was long overdue.  Now that I'm blazing through native 4K footage unencumbered, it's really kind of awesome.

    Hey Fuzzy,

what kinda system did you set up? Isn´t the GX7 pretty thick for a consumer 8bit codec already? Asking, because Panny G6 most definately is a pleasing experience to me in that regard. Or is it Resolve seeming to do wonders?

    cheers

lol, is this topic basically "... SO ANYWAYYY..."? love it. kind of necessary at the moment..

shot my short film recently with the t3i.. still kind of impressed by it. I liked my simple lighting setup a lot. probably the saving factor of the film, since the camera alone isn't exactly stellar. (haven't gotten much feedback yet, but have been digesting. I'll probably just post my film here in like the next couple of days). when I was able to overexpose, the image was really clean. when I needed to underexposed, the grain covered the artifacts and noise really well. probably have to buy a month of vimeo plus in order for that to matter in the export though

not camera news, but.. been looking a little at Portable Apps.. the prospect of being completely portable with Blender and Audacity is.. interesting. just working at the library.. probably not actually on my radar, haha.. I'm just a little obsessed with finding the absolute cheapest option that's still good enough, for... everything in my life. the possibilities for someone with no money in filmmaking are continually pretty awesome. thinking of putting together a more legitimate lighting kit diy for like $50

sorry to stray away from the topic of "anything" ;)

    Hey Liam,

alway loving cheap solutions. So much enjoyment out of the fact to get great results with such cute consumer tech, if one knows what he does.

Just felt like responding, sorry, this scamming post is really not an amusing matter, but lowfi tech talk really is. Cheers!

I think I most likely will be picking up an XC10 and a GX85 and selling my BMMCC... But I'm not a hundred percent sure about buying the GX85 and selling the BMMCC... But the XC10 is practically a definite.

How about you fuzzy, how are you getting on with GX85?

    Oh Dude,

happy to see you in the pleasure zone of EOSHD again!:)

What you crazy, first selling that G7- so no more 8bit challtenges anymore, now getting rid off the BMMCC.

XC10, wow, cool! I think I gonna rent one and grading the heck out of it!

Good to feel this gear related exitement in this post!

I will be shooting a short with lighting team and one camera assistent in a theater either end of August of September.

September would be better, cuz director wants to change the script and hasnt done any casting yet. Crazy film people:)

Panny I admire your maturity, I really do, but I never once called for violence to ES and I couldn't disagree more about closing this thread, especially now. If for no other reason but a paper trail of the events that transpired... And the events that will come to fruition.

Forgot to put your quote in I was relating my answer to. Gee, bad etiquettes of mine:)

  9.

    Hey Merce,

for violence has been called in this thread. I am sure, it wasn´t you though. But others have, explicitely or reacting in a humoureous manner towards such comments,

conclusions have been drawn about things going beyond the simple question about the identity of a scam. Degrading, concluding comments about persona and his contributions.

Why were a lot of people enjoying his past posts until one week ago and now all of the sudden put peer pressure up as an exuse for such appreciation.

I tell you what you posters have been to me in this thead: too long involved this thread´s dynamics and getting carried away by it.

I don´t think it should be up to assumptions about maturity but most of all and definately up to justice to solve this case.

In court you don´t hear the judge calling susptects names. I understand that this is no court. But then again, this thread should have no meaning

other than being a warning not to use WU and not to buy stuff from the scamming account.

By the way, Merce, little sad not to see anymore beautifully filmed greens with a 8bit codec camera anymore.- You know, I could assume you´d be

suspicious about my nice last sentence towards you in my latter sentence- This is the kind of paranoia and angst and rage coming out

of the last twenty pages of this thread. But no justice. Let´s leave it to the cool headed and fairly approaching institutions of justice.

"This is this and that is that" as Bobby DeNiro said, I´ve said this before, didn´t I?

    cheers, Marty not Scorsese:)

:) You guys, why not being cool like Toshiro Mifune for a while. There are possibillities of legal actions that can be taken after a scam.

But beforehead of a seemingly forced act of a confession and seeming contractions in defense, there have been accusastions and connotations of all kinds.

Case is a 600 to 1000USD fraud. Now it´s up to the institutions which professionally and legally are empowered

to take action and being in charge of investigation and its consequences for the case, the victims, the doer or doers of the crime and a conclusion.

Why not close the thread for now as it should have been after the WU scam has been named and before the name

calling and aggressive comments have been started.

I wonder where these online courses are?

There might not be any others besides the beautiful posts of Ebrahim here on Eoshd. That´s plenty of beautiful free knowledge for interested readers.

Now watching Zach´s newest video and then going to bed. Best to you guys

  12. Hey Merce,

I admire your enthusiasm for grading and the look and flavor of an image. That discipline in itself is a technical side open to sometimes flawed but

interesting approaches and results, especially with 8bit footage.

I read a lot of contradicting stuff from almost any forum member on here, may they be pros or not.

Heck I almost bought a RXII- one of you better give me my beautiful money back, if so:)

So ES being not right on one or few other topics does not discredit his whole body of work, which is an inspriring example of great history of quality posts.

It was him besides only a very few others pointing out zero artificial sharpness of CLOG. It was him promoting peaceful communication with one another all the time!

Him, Andy Lee, JCS and Maxotic, then Oliver Daniel, AaronChicago are the guys brought me here to finally join Andrew´s beautiful forum as a member.

So I do not accept the claim of righteousness for demanding a ban because of some faulty aspects of very few forum posts.

A lot of tech testing is not without faults, neither the implications from them. Ebrahim has left a great amount of knowledge. We can appreciate that and

be thankful for that.  And we should not get drained down to the ugly position of dissing his beautiful achievements.

If he is guilty of the scam, his scam will not be forgotten without apologies, honesty and compensation,

    but most of all honesty.

Like the great Bobby DeNiro JR. said in the Deerhunter:"this is this and that is that"

(I call him Bobby since he has been calling me Marty:)

    cheers, Marty

    cheers, Marty:)

  13. Hey Tarik, middle part with outdoor shots looking good with good framing and image choices, fitting rhythm as well. Parts before and after don´t have that. Maybe let somebody else edit with a fresh look on the footage and without too much adimiration for the material but a good hand to pick the right parts, in the best order with the most fitting length. Also the yellow of the girls face is just yellow without a motivated reason to be so, neither does it have a look adding to the depth or appeal or intensity or general quality of the image. Other than that, good effort. Keep it up!

Oh, and maybe you wanna check out Andy Lee´s posts on the Panasonic G7 for knowledge about the best profile and settings:

C'mon guys, they are not! Not hard to tell :-)

Let's be good citizens here. OP has been an example for all of us, so let's honour his input all the time : ) Ebrahim is just a young fellow, practically a teenager yet, who only needs to be considered like that. He can have a promising future in front of his own path. My thoughts and bets on it. No one here wants to see him down, right? :-)

The other lesson to be learnt here is maybe check peoples bona fides before you take their advice as gospel. Unimaginary filmmakers like me, Zak,....(not so sure about Ed :smirk: ) have a body of work online you can check out.... and there's IMDB too. If somebody doesn't have either, and they tell you they've been shooting film for 30 years; chances are they're full of shit.

Both of you, beautiful statements. Can´t we leave it this way, please. Either proof or not from either of the sides in a calm and polite manner but no more goofy or insulting statements about forum members.

  15.

Well, guys, I think, what me, Ed, mercer, Zach, Ebrahim and a lot of us have in common here on Eoshd is the enjoyment of community, encouragement.

Even if I might learn some wrong stuff once in a while regarding the technicalities of codec, exposure, resolution vs sharpness, etc., as long as it can

engage us to do filming, it´s an achievement in itself already. Most of us seem to succeed in that regard.

There are plenty of well shot pieces in the screening area of this forum. Would be cool, if the forums "usability feng shui" would lurk us more

    into posting in that category.

@PannySVHS Read the thread and get back to us...

    Hey:)

I´ve been reading it from the start and expressed my dislike about aggressive speech before twice in this thread.

Essence of my perspecitve is, there is no possiblitiy to find the doer of the scam. There is all necessity to avoid aggressive or chauvinistic messages.

The facette of trying to deconstruct a possibly constructed internet persona named Ebrahim is done in a mob mentality.

Proving someone guilty of something can be done in a manner guilty of far worse human attributes.

  17.

    Hallo people,

let me speak from my perspective. I don´t see a way of finding the doer of this deed.

I assume, some of the world wide forum members involve aspects about themselves as a result of their imagination rather than fact. That can be a beautiful thing, if imagination becomes reality some day.

Maybe the human being behind the beautiful Persona Ebrahim is not a millionaire´s son nor his Grandfather/Uncle/Father but rather enjoying the imagination of being one.

That is legit and part of the private sphere, nothing to brag about, but rather being happy about his knowledgeable and warmhearted contributions.

Let me tell you, I´m NOT a millionaire´s son. Do you believe me?:)

In court nobody has to be called names. This is no courtroom, but still we should avoid calling names. Like another forum member said, behind the Eoshd account with the name of Ebrahim is a real human being. If that is not going to be respected, I wish this thread not only to be closed but fishy, insulting contributions to be deleted as well.

Could be a 77 year old from Spain is pretending to be 21 year old pretending to be a millionaire´s son, nephew, grandson from Egypt. That would be beautiful thing, having a 77 year old taking the opportunity to contribute awesome posts is such a beautiful "Ebrahim´s manner".

It would be a tragedy, if that human being would be in need of a scam.

If the doer of this deed can be found, the doer is going to be hurt financially and possibly regarding honour well enough.

Any other hurting beyond that is only an opportunity of showing an ugly mob mentality.

    cheers

This is a shame. I posted above: aggressive comments should be deleted, thread should be closed for comments but left on the forum as a warning about Western Union transfers.

I was scammed before twice, once by an ebay seller for 100USD. Aggressive messages of people, esp. who have not been put into harms themselves by the matter, should not be accepted, neither should threats of aggression of any kind. Shame about that verbal misfortune. I hope these aggressive words will be deleted by Andy Lee or other moderators. It is not up to anybody to assume. Of course it can be helpful to warn people about possible risks or scams, like the poster of this thread did.

So let´s just leave it that way and not post aggressive threats nor assumptions nor insults.

There's always going to be something more to buy. I don't know that you "have to" buy a new system to get the look you want. I'd use more light, but in the same proportions, get the iso down. With 8-bit footage, I try to fill in the blacks a bit more, just a big source of fill to bring everything up a half stop or so. Sort of like "lighting flat" vs. a flat profile, and then push up the blacks in post. I never mess with faux-log or anything-log with 8-bit though, just seems to noise everything up in the long run.

By the way, on my screen at the posted resolution, there was no noise that really jumped out at me. Full screen there's a lot of noise in the mids, which is odd. But nothing neat video wouldn't work well on.

Exellent statement. I think it is a pity that lighting sometimes is one of the most scaring aspects. It´s not scary at all though, it´s just scaring the heck out of us ambitious video lovers some times for no good reason. But it really is not such a big deal, if one has the chance to rent for little money or even buy or DIY.

Or utilizing natural light. It is really worth it for the fun of creating or sculpting an image with light, enjoying the process of creating and the possiblities of images and expressions.

My informal evaluation showed this: the GX80 has a tendency for a noisy blue channel and a red channel with almost a "halo" effect to it. I know this because I downloaded camera files from expensive cameras to compare.

So for the WB A3G3 (which was a recommendation from @Inazuma) I could see that the blue channel got increased just a tad, keeping it further away from the bottom 5% IRE values in FCPX; hence, it had less clipping. IMO, the closer you get to the bottom or top 5% IRE, the more chances of clipping. I also liked the greens I could get after grading.

This is interesting, Kamil. I think I've seen the "plastic" look you're talking about, but not so much on the GX80 (or Panasonic) files. I've been told this before: don't reduce the saturation too much on a 8bit file... but why? I thought it was more about banding. Can you explain more? Also, some say with 8bit: "get as close to the final image you want in-camera." So, what are people shooting S-log, V-log, C-log? They've all got 8-bit versions, supposedly "ready" for grading, all of which look really flat and unusable out of camera.

    Hey John!

Thank you for your answer! So that means with A3G3 one gets closer to the yellows and greens and further way from the reds and blues? 5% IRE in FCPX would be

values 64 and 960 in Davinci?

I think colorwise the GX80 should be really nice when graded well and of course shot well with A3G3:) Also, on G6 I shoot Natural with color 0 and anything else in -2.

It´s not a look I adore out of cam but grades nicely to my eyes. Filmig with not too much saturation to avoid color clipping. Not too low contrast and saturation either to avoid "plactic" and false colors, as far as I would understand.

By the way, do you know if the GX80 can record internally when having a HDMI out to a small monitor solution?

    best regards, Marty

how did you get that green?

Thank you very much! I have two layers, one with 7 nodes, another one on top duplicated and in Hardlight layermode- with two of the nodes altered.

I think one of the main things is one of the nodes of the lower of the two layers as seen on the Davinci screenshot below. Also attached a framegrab of a duck with colors I was really exited about to find in that 50p 28Mbit codec, with additional twixtor like slomo added!

  22. Hallo,

for now you guys, just don´t do business with anybody asking for Western Union!

To make statements about beating anybody up does not belong in this forum, as far as my opinion goes.

To have spent a few hundred dollars on a scam is unfortunate. Aggressive statements from commenting audience of forum members are

unfortunate as well and not necessary.

To say: XYZ never said anything interesting about cameras and filming anyways is just a unfortunate facette of this unhealthy conduct.

The wealth of contributions of the Persona Ebrahim is well regarded.

I suggest to leave this topic as a warning for potential Western Union buyers, close it for futher comments and delete the aggressive statements.

Hopefully the real Ebrahim is doing well and not in need of scamming.

    cheers
