Apologies for off-topic, but the concept of this video is very reminiscent of this video, which is also much better in my opinion.

austinchimp got a reaction from mercer in GH5 for Photography?
I own the GH5, Fuji x-t20, and the Sony A7Rii and have used the Sony a lot for stills, the GH5 as my main photo camera on a few trips, and the Fuji from time to time when I want to throw a small and light camera in a bag.
In my opinion the GH5 is a fine photo camera. Lately when weight and space has been an issue I've been finding myself selecting the GH5 to do both photo and stills as a compromise, as it does both jobs to a high standard.
If you're looking for pure quality then the A7Rii is on another level. There's something incredibly smooth and organic about the image. Creamy and deep. When I have to take photos professionally I use the Sony. But for personal use the GH5 is fine, although it feels more crispy and contrasty and perhaps over-sharp. It feels more digital and Panasonic-y where as the Sony could almost be medium format in terms of its quality.
The Sony is also great in low light, where as the Panasonic crushes the blacks a lot even in raw, and needs more light.
Personally, in my limited experience, I'd put the GH5 and Fuji almost on the same level. The Fuji has naturally nicer colour and perhaps better dynamic range, but I don't feel there's a massive difference.
In terms of ergonomics and ease of shooting the GH5 is probably the best and fits in the hand nicer.

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
I do a Youtube show that generates roughly 1 million views a month on audio production & one of the questions that keeps coming up is, "how the hell do you get your voice to sound so good?"

    Here's my approach:

Got my DJI Ronin S a few weeks ago and while digging through the app realized that I could program tilt and pan moves and repeat them. I paired the Ronin S with a motorized slider creating a small motion control system. This allowed for some interesting VFX in a music video I just shot. I was able to created several versions of the singer interacting with himself while the camera moved around following the action. Check it out:

Looks great @Sage. I'd love to see a graded version with a bit more weight and contrast. Colour looks spot on apart from that though. Is this the newest version you've released publicly?

Here’s my video review on the speed booster I got from a previous thread. Just posting here so we don’t have multiple M50 threads.
Speed booster really solves the issues with the 4K crop. I wish Metabones would make an “XL” version for EF-M so it takes the 4K crop to proper super35. But still, the .71x isn’t too bad.

Looking back I owe everyone a big thank-you for using the forum and taking an interest in the blog, it is amazing what it has turned into with so little effort on my part  I think this place must be the only website on the entire internet without adverts. Long may it continue like that.
Got a GX9 arriving tomorrow... about time I did a review of something cheap with the big shift to high-end stuff. Let me know what you'd like to see in the review of it.

My dear erstwhile member can you please stop attacking John Brawley now.
I have long since given up on camera forum arguments so might not be completely up on who is right and who is wrong-evil / killed-a-kitten, but can we tone it down a bit. It's JB! We could be learning so much and having such interesting cameras talks with a film industry guy and I am sure one of the only people with a Blackmagic Pocket 2 prototype yet instead a handful of you are just bitching. It's pointless. Even if you disagree with him on certain matters, hold your tongue a bit for the benefit of the rest of us who are interested in what he has to tell.

Seems like EOSHD is only for angry keyboard warriors like you who care more about a camera's specs and starting an argument and less about actually shooting and creating.
JB is a true professional who most of you here (including myself) could learn a ton from. Blackmagic actually give him cameras to shoot with prior to their release. Rather than engage in meaningful conversation, most of you are more interested in a slanging match than you are about actually learning anything.
I actually agree with John, we should stop using the word sissy as a put down.
    What a toxic forum.

It sounds like you’re threatened by this camera so you’re making sure you point out any and all shortcomings you can. Isn’t sissy a bit emotional ? You’re reaching.
Some people will be happy with 10bit 422 as their maximum image quality as long as they have a tilt able screen and autofocus.
Most serious image makers know that 12bit raw and 10 bit ProRes for half the price trumps the MILC features you’re desperately trying to remind everyone your precious GH5s has. Mostly because “filmmakers” don’t tend to use those features anyway. I don’t use AF.  But I shoot narrative drama.  What I need isn’t what others need.
For the majority, they will prefer the utility of the form factor, longer battery life, AF and IBIS on the GH5 and will find the bare minimum for serious work 400Mbps codec to be good enough.
People who care about image fidelity will likely prefer what a Pocket 2 produces side by side and will also decide that they can work around the shortcomings that pertain to the way they work.
The same way others will prefer to work around the shortcomings of a lower bit depth more compressed and sub sampled image because other features are important to them.
On board batteries on an Alexa mini on my last show were lasting about 40 mins by the way.  I guess you’re calling me a sissy.
    JB
EDIT  by the way, I don’t think it’s at all appropriate to use sissy, a word that means effeminate man or homosexual. Maybe you want to change that.

There is one thing for sure, and that is that contentious people like LvT promote robust discussion. And I would say that is probably a positive outcome. I don't agree with the key premises of Andrew's argument, nor the conclusions that follow, and I think it is reasonable to contest the argument on that basis. Perhaps I have missed something as well and I can learn from the discussion. But I'm not sure that personalising things is particularly useful, more of a distraction. Sometimes, a different conception of the problem leads to different conclusions.

brilliant. Can't wait to try this out. The over sharpened and processed look from the GH5 is the main thing that keeps it inferior to proper cinema cameras in my opinion.
Looks very close in your examples. Thanks for your work!

Hey austinchimp, how do you like V2?
By the way, I want to recommend to all Premiere users to avoid the Lumetri Luma curve. Instead use the Shadows/Midtones/Highlights sliders of the Color wheels section, or Obsolete RGB Curves. This was added to the PDF for V2. One of the elements of the project is to identify anything which will compromise the color pipeline, to ensure everyone is getting the best image, despite NLE.
When I was coding the color engine, I implemented a 'common sense' algorithm to alter luma. It turned out, I had a lot to learn. The common sense algorithm was distorting the color space, and I was distraught for two weeks trying to figure out where I went wrong. It nearly destroyed me. I figured it out; that color and luma are intrinsically interlinked. A month later, in Premiere's Lumetri luma curve I recognized the same common sense algorithm. They didn't catch and fix it. The Color Wheel section's sliders are much better in this regard:
    Luma Curve

    Shadows/Midtones/Highlights Sliders

    - No color modification

I think what makes film and retro games popular are specifically the flaws and artifacts.
To that extent, I think it's more likely that old point and shoots, cell phone cameras, vapor wave, Simpson wave, anything really really technically bad but with its charms will become associated more with a classic digital look.
A band I knew in college used to be into the idea of how heavy generation mp3 compression was the millennial's equivalent to vinyl hiss (though it looks like millennials gravitated to vinyl hiss, so maybe it's the next generation that will gravitate to low quality mp3s).
I agree still cameras haven't progressed that much since Nikon introduced the D90, and even video is leveling off now.
But I think the "classic" look will be associated with the bad, not the good.

Shoot 4k. Use a fader ND. Shoot c-log. Expose to the right. I’ve found the compression is much much better wide open/nearly wide open. Maybe this is the lens, but the f11 stuff I shot came out mushy.
It is good for what it is. If it had a 2.8 constant lens, this camera would be a beast.

I agree - I'm not sure how much of an 'upgrade' you expect from your NX1 in terms of the quality of results as a hybrid photo/video machine. From what I've seen the Nx1 is more than enough quality wise for somebody starting out.
Might it be that you're thinking in terms of looking more pro to pick up additional work? In which case a Canon (C100, 1DC, 5D) does look more pro, without giving you any significant quality increase from the NX1.
Personally I've found more and more that one camera doesn't cover me for top quality stills and video. I now use a dedicated photo camera and dedicated video camera, which isn't ideal.
As you're at an early stage in your career and looking to improve your craft, I'd say any modern hybrid camera or DSLR should be good enough. One thing you should think about is frame rates - if you're hoping to recreate some of the modern styles of travel vids and promos, slow mo is used quite heavily as is hand held camera movement. Perhaps something like the GH5 with decent slow motion and decent stills, along with great IBIS would work for you?
The 1DC is great but doesn't have good slow motion, while I personally find the 1DX ii too heavy and big for travel, and it lacks a little flexibility without a Log profile.
    Just my thoughts.
