Agreed. The C300iii looks great. The RF mount is very exciting and has an advantage over the EF. These two lenses in particular., both very fast lenses with IS and macro. The prices are also great. Both are under 600.

BenEricson reacted to Andrew Reid in Forum rules (Latest)
These rules are here to make the forum as interesting as possible to read for others.
If I ban somebody, it will only be be because they repeatedly broke the rules below. I ask for everybody's understanding on this - I only have two goals - to protect EOSHD and my business, and to make the forum a source of high quality camera and filmmaking info. Cheers!
    1. Please be polite to other users where possible, although lively debates and disagreements are ok and to be expected! However, when it comes to the site owner myself, I would like you to bear in mind that your remarks are in my house and on my phone screen. So it is especially important not to come here with a hostile attitude to the site owner. I do not wish to see this content in my home and it will result in an instant ban. I do not want trolling at work, or during home hours.
    2. Please do not promote your own products without OK-ing this with me first, especially ones which compete with my own at EOSHD. This includes camera guides, colour profiles, LUTs and alternative blogs or forums. If an account is setup for the main purposes of selling LUTs for example, this is not OK and you must clear this with me first. If I like your work I may get in touch and work something out. However I will always reserve the final say for the very obvious need to protect my own livelihood and website. Please do not use your forum activity to take customers away from my own site.
    3. Extreme topics and viewpoints relating to communism, baseless conspiracy theories, MAGA and extreme left & right-wing politics are not allowed on the forum. I welcome people of all reasonable political views but I do not accept far left or far right propaganda on the forum. The filmmaking community is largely a liberal art and Trump endorsing views aren't usually welcomed on set, so it's important to keep in mind that the same applies to this corner of the film and camera industry too. Please understand - this is not about political censorship but about avoiding a hostile and divisive atmosphere in the community. And to ensure camera topics aren't side-tracked. It is not so much about politics as about morality.
    4. Please try to post original and useful content! Only linking out to other sites or YouTube content will not be tolerated as EOSHD should not simply be a rehash of somebody's private web surfing history. Please try to contribute real-life experiences of camera use, images, actual filmmaking and relevant topics in an original way.
    5. Please do not regularly bump your own topics, especially curating your own editorial style compilation of YouTube videos you've found on the web. The forum should not be an advertising platform for poor quality content. A few relevant clips are fine in the context of a discussion.
    6. Trolling is forbidden and results in an instant ban. Users with a hostile attitude to myself or my friends on the forum will be banned immediately as first post is moderated before being shown. So don't bother with that. If a user rejoins under a different name to continue the abuse, email, IP address and all meta data will be logged and depending on the situation, legal steps may be taken and law enforcement may be notified about threats, libel or online abuse.
    7. Please do not post completely off-topic posts and please keep chat & small talk to private messages! When a topic has a lot of short opinions and off topic remarks, it can be difficult for users to find the objective, factual camera information they came to the EOSHD Forum for.
    8. Any account set up for product advertising purposes or spam will be deleted instantly. This can include representatives from camera or accessories companies, who use the forum to promote a product in an obviously biased way without acknowledging the site owner or contributing beyond the purposes of promotion. Carefully disguising this as helping users on a technical level will not pass muster!
    9. Fake users are not allowed on the forum, bots are pre-moderated. All spam accounts will be deleted.
    10. Advisory: Whenever possible, please to avoid posting URLs in topics to the following sources: Tony Northrup (YouTube), Max Yuryev (YouTube), Fro Knows Photo (YouTube), Cinema5D (CineD), NoFilmSchool, DPReview, 43rumors, Sony Alpha Rumors, Everyday Dad (YouTube) and the DPReview Forums. In my opinion these sources have too much emphasis on advertising, too cozy with camera PR departments, too much clickbait, too much sponsored content, or even feature a hostile competitive attitude to EOSHD. For example the DPReview Forum for years had a ban on my URL, so in response, please do not link there. I won't censor it, I just discourage it.

I think the C300iii RAW looks really nice.  The C300iii is really the camera I want.  It's well out of my price range, but maybe I should just pull out all the stops and aim for it.  Apart from price (which I don't have too much complaint about, just can't afford) it ticks every box I can think of.

Well yeah, I more meant the IR pollution. I know this has been taken care of on most of the hard stop filters. Still an issue with variable, no?

You can get variable IRND right? I really don't use them to be honest, was an issue with my old non IR VND!

I wouldn't call it a hidden cost, your gonna need NDs with any camera that doesn't have them internally. Its just about getting the best ones for the camera!

Another example. There are tons of hidden costs and not even Black Magic documents issues like the IR pollution.
True, but all of those cameras are ergonomically beautifully designed. Even a simple Bolex has a view finder, drop in NDs (which Canon just now is utilizing 60 years later,) and 50d stock that make shooting in daylight actually possible at a reasonable shutter speed without NDs. For better or for worse, the Black Magic pocket cameras are very much a stripped down sensor in a box. If it had NDs, XLR, a flip screen, and a view finder, it would cost just as much as the C200.
This sounds like I am anti Black Magic. I'm not. I own the Micro and the original pocket. Both are beautiful cameras, but have lots of flaws and quirks that took me a while to adapt to. The studio I work for has two C300 Mk2s and they're about 100x easier to setup and operate.

I have managed to shoot just fine with the internal battery, metabones speed booster and EF lenses, recording to cast cards.  I also rig mine up for professional work to record to SSD via Tilta cables and rig, which has never once let me down.  And the SSD drive is so much quicker to download or even work from if needed.  Plus storage space saves so much hassle.
The image and editing workflow with BRAW puts it miles ahead of other cameras with H264 or even worse H265, both in adjusting exposure and colour.  Evem today, working with both BRAW and H264, I struggle to accept the limitations of H264.  The BM image is so much more gorgeous to work with.
In an ideal World I would own several C300, but I don't live in that World.  For me, the BM Pockets are the next best alternative.  Combine BRAW with Davinci Resolve and you have a wonderful setup for filming and editing.  Its not perfect.  Nothing is.  There are some risks, but I've shot over a hundred of Weddings with them plus countless Corporate shoots and not had an issue that has prevented me from getting the footage I needed.

100% go CFast, it's so much less hassle and you don't have to worry about bad cables or securing the cable/damaging the port. Even with Tilta's screw in cables, I had 2 break on me in a year. 2 128GBs shooting 6K Q5 get me through a day of shooting. Search the used market for approved media easy enough to get great deals nowadays.
You'll want an IRND on the Pockets, I got significant IR pollution with the Tiffen VND. Currently using Hoya ProNDs the IR is correctable but still apparent. Nisi make affordable circular IRNDs, I haven't tried them but they review well. Id go for the 3 and 6 Stop.
If your only shooting 4K ProRes i've used Sandisk Extreme Pro SD cards that worked flawlessly!

I posted some frames above. The one in the middle is the R5. I am almost certain. The color is more accurate and the skin tones pop without the need to shift everything towards red/pink. (look at the dress.)
No. I notice the exact same issue with the C300 Mk3 as well. (same sensor.)
I though this example was pretty nice. The skin tones look very clean. That being said, there is something about all of the examples that have this very video looking feel. If you don't know what I mean, watch some Komodo footage.

I keep getting a bit worried/distracted/obsessed by the highlight rendition with this camera.  The wedding film, above, doesn't look as nice overall as the previous stills.  Don't get me wrong, it's a nice piece, and I'm sure the families will be delighted, but the highlights do look quite abruptly clipped in places, and it does lend it a bit of a DSLR-y feel.
    Am I being paranoid?

It’s arrived. Just charging batteries but first impressions of the body...
    - Great form factor, makes total sense although could be nice to have a compact EVF somewhere.
    - It’s much more lightweight than I thought. Doesn’t feel that much heavier than the A7SIII.
    - Body is solid, but the material is definitely a bit more budget than other C-series.
    - LCD is larger than I thought, although it’s on the flimsy side.
    - Button layout is great. Everything is there although the “media” button is almost impossible to press with your right hand on the grip.
    - The top handle is neat however the texture feels weird. Others might not mind, but I think I’ll have to wrap some extra material round it, haha.
In conclusion, Canon have stripped back the premium feel a little to give us a camera with great features at a great price point. The form factor makes sense and they’ve done a great job of fusing these bodies together.
Now, let’s see how it does on the field.

I said a few years ago my “perfect camera” for video would be an XC15 style camera with at least S35 and up to 4k120 10bit. Then they released it.
I also have the A7SIII and looking forward to comparing. I predict I’ll keep hold of both. The A7SIII is a triumph.

Download the C70 footage Trankilstef linked to and play with it yourself. It's the same footage that's graded in the video you apparently don't link. I screwed around with it a bit and found it's very flexible and the coded isn't too hard on the machine. I didn't find that the original LOG footage had a cheap DSLR look. Maybe you just object to the way some people have been grading it.

Lovely, now put some Zeiss Tevidons to use with it and show off this beauty with some tasty 60fps CDNG Raw!:)
Is the HDMI a full size port? BMMCC is one of the vintage cameras like the Sony F3 which have risen in prices again over the last months. There is some mojo to them as many have stated before on this forum. I personally would have loved a 60p variante of the BMCC 2.5K!

Man, I just don't see it. I love the specs, but a lot of this footage just reminds me of cheap DSLR footage with a poor attempt at a "film look."
The C300ii or older canon footage, (pre DGO sensor,) looks dynamic and beautiful with very accurate and balanced color.
I do believe that you can a get a more neutral / classic look with this camera, but curious why a lot of the videos have a similar look. Maybe trying to grade a C-LOG2 file from scratch?
I've heard multiple people mention they love the IQ and the reviewer above is raving about it. The specs and size are great, and the images have a low noise floor, but do these images really knock people off their feet? All the praise over these images makes it sounds like we're all talking about the Komodo or something.

Unbiased. And, I've used a few different media boxes. Sony, IPTV box, even the Samsung TVs internally built system - they even have apple TV built into the TV (but I still resort to the standalone box).
Now.... I've used Sony before moving to Apple TV Box - its just easy to use, hassle free - intuitive. Funny thing is, even if the apple TV is built into the Samsung TVs that I have.... I don't use it simply because the remote (Samsung Remote vs. Apple TV remote) isn't there....
The whole experience of it being so simple - idiot proofing - is what draws me in...
Only complaints I have about the Apple remote - sometimes its overly sensitive (the touch portion of it) and its so small.... you can lose it often...
Editted to add: I have a lot of non-tech savvy people in my household - I can take the time to learn a system, but I don't have patience to baby and/or teach every single person that is in my household nor those that visits my household and starts asking me how do you use this thing....

Great that they wish to offer these things but they need to be competitive in the wider market to survive.
