  1. I always hear comments like this, but I’ve never heard an actual story of anyone having a “it was all blank sorry” moment. This seems like the modern equivalent of forgetting to load a card into a digital camera. You’d have to either have very serious mechanical error, severe under exposure, or be uneducated in the process, all of which are preventable... especially since the room for error with negative film is extremly high. I recently shot a short piece on a Bolex Rex 4. The scanning prices have dropped recently and the 4k scans available now are really nice and affordable. ProRes LT to Vimeo has worked pretty good for me in the past. Film grain holds up really nice in my experience.
  2. I’d be vanilla. The typical drone and overcranked GH5 kit. Probably not the right look for a wedding film, but at least this was interesting. Seriously it is okay to clip highlights in natural light if it benefits the shot and gives realistic contrast. The OP asked a simple question, only to get a dozen responses weirdly questioning the shooting style of the footage. Weak. Yes.
  3. Honestly, it sounded to me like he just loves the way film looks. I agree, but that’s what I took away. I mean going from that Sony a7s or FS5 interview to motion picture film alone sells that fact.
  4. Nah, a hobbyist would have used a slider, drone, and some sort of other unnecessary tool. This is well shot and very intentionally feels candid and on the fly. Any cuts would also ruin the feel they are going for.
  5. I've used the C300ii extensively. I don't really do any work where a C200 could work for me. I want the ability to push images, shooting in natural lighting/small LED panel setups, so would need RAW or 10 bit files, but the file sizes are huge. The C300 is a work horse that has never let me down. We shoot 1080p probably 90 percent of the time. I haven't used the C200 and the 8 bit does look pretty nice from what I have seen.
  6. Would recommend a view finder for the back. I really dig the Canon 35mm F2 IS if you need to shoot handheld as well. These guys did a lot of really really nice work with the 5D2.
  7. Speaking of the 5D2. This company Lucid did a lot of really nice work with that camera. It is crazy what that camera can do with such small files. I know the DP got into using filters to raise the black level to eliminate noise. I think the 5D2 was sharper, but also had problems aliasing and moire. I don't know much about the color either, but I still think the images are so beautiful.
  8. I agree. This is what prevents me from buying a C200. The C300ii is much more suited for the work I do. Recording long interviews and mic'd up b roll for 30/40 minutes at a time. You can buy a recorder, but that takes away from what makes the C series so awesome. Raw seems suitable for the hobbyists and the top pros, but not the in between. This depends on the scenario of course.
  9. Playback/Size? Those are huge. ProRes Raw is supposed to perform very well.
  10. Safety Not Guaranteed, but you probably already know that. Wasn’t even shot in log mode.
  11. Nah, that looks like Slog to me. Have you figured out a solution yet? What lenses are you using? They look beautiful.
  12. Trying to grab the files but I am on hotel wifi. Can you post some TIFs? The preview files look like normal S-LOG files to me.
  13. Can you post some frames? In my experience F3 is up there with the C300ii and the Red. I found it much easier to work with than FS7 or FS700.
  14. "With a crop factor of 1.6x (or 2.56x total crop relative to full-frame) the video mode is almost unusable." The stock photo literally has a 15mm lens on it. Sounds useable to me. The pocket is 3x and looks better than any Sony or Panasonic DSLR. Will there be a speed booster for this camera? Canon color + 4k for 800 is great. Depends what youre using it for. I imagine on a gimbal or for interviews this could be rad. You really don't totally need auto focus with a crop so high.
  15. Pocket: Size/Price Micro: 60p I think mainly the size would be the reason. 2.5 image looks so nice though.
  16. Looks like cinema. I would guess this was Arri, Alexa, or C300ii. That camera is still on my list of cameras to try. Looks so nice.
  17. Everybody seems to agree that the 1DC has more "mojo." You don't get C-LOG on the 1dxii. Have you tried installing the technicolor custom preset? If I was shooting travel video, I would really want 4k/60p and the auto focus I would image would be huge as well. Do you have any samples of where DR is an issue?
  18. I completely agree. Limitations in general can be helpful in the creative process.
  19. I used to stack a vari with a IR cut and started getting green vignetting with the pocket camera. It depends on the situation, but for run and gun it can be a workable option. I hate any sort of external NDs based on the negative experience with even 400.00+ NDs. It's a shame to have to worry about vignetting on a 24-105/11-17 Etc.
  20. That last frame looks like a RAW still from the 5d. Wild. I can't remember the program, but isn't there a paid version that lets you bake out c-log footage? You can preserve highlights there. Edit: Also the straight REC709 out of that program looks amazing as well. You can't really use it in extreme lighting scenarios though.
  21. Wasn’t there an issue with lack of detail from noise reduction? Using a non log profile for the ability to shoot at the lower ISOs is really a huge bonus. Baked in profiles are majorly under utilized these days - especially with the Canon cameras.
  22. Shoot 4k. Use a fader ND. Shoot c-log. Expose to the right. I’ve found the compression is much much better wide open/nearly wide open. Maybe this is the lens, but the f11 stuff I shot came out mushy. It is good for what it is. If it had a 2.8 constant lens, this camera would be a beast.
  23. This is more what I was going for. I'm on a 2015 iMac monitor now. I think playing off the gold/yellow rather than the red. Based on this Carol frame. Shot on 16mm film.
  24. I think the image overall looks smoother if you can reduce the tint caused from the orange furniture. This is what I came up with. Pretty close to the original - a bit more golden. I'm mainly just looking at the skin on memory colors and reducing the red.
