Tim Sewell got a reaction from IronFilm in Valuable insight and interviews with working DPs
No doubt everyone's aware of this, but Cooke Optics' YouTube channel is yet another department of the free film school: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-Ya9gBlwOhRwtloTn1hvbA

At film school, your professors are usually not actively working in the field.
So this WanderingDP - interview young up and coming DPs who share unique perspectives and ideas is incredibly valuable. I learned a ton from the interview with Chayse Irvin, super talented young dp who shot the Lemonade Beyonce film.

Tim Sewell got a reaction from mercer in Canon XC10 4K camcorder
Probably could use a bit more work - especially the score - but I quite like the 'thrillery' feel. Cinema EOS standard, HD, colour and contrast balanced then FilmConvert-ed to Fuji Velvia. Soundtrack done in Filmstro.

Tim Sewell got a reaction from kidzrevil in Canon XC10 versus Sony RX10 III. The Canon is underrated!
Yeah, I was looking at standard too, probably with the sharpening dialled down a little. Would you still add any post LUTtage to that, or leave it as is (your work always seems highly stylised to me, so I'm guessing the former)? As an aside, just for fun, I manually 'legalised' some of my C log test shots then played around with some looks LUTS (DeLUTS) designed for Sony Cine4 and they didn't look too bad at all.

Tim Sewell got a reaction from Nikkor in My first experience with a Red. (Guest appearance by Beyonce!)
Off-topic, but the service being advertised fits in with a description I recently heard of today's web service industry - guys in the Valley coming up with apps to do the stuff their mums no longer do for them.

Tim Sewell got a reaction from Santiago de la Rosa in GH5 10-bit 4:2:2 internal?
Blackmagic Design have announced a new camera, which they added is already shipping and available in all major retailers from midnight.

Nice video. I noted 2 things though:
1. Crazy amounts of purple and green chromatic aberrations.
2. Strange motion cadence... I could see the frames. Possibly due to shutter speed choice? Most notably seen on the first shot of the gondola coming our from a bridge.

Tim Sewell got a reaction from Jimmy in How to save the consumer camera: DON'T!
Bear in mind that without the consumer market to give a ROI your GH7 is going to cost you eight grand.

My vari-ND lives on the cam when using log. However, after reading @kidzrevil's posts I've recently been playing with EOS Cinema Standard, where the problem doesn't really occur much as you can shoot as low as 160 ISO - the results are actually really nice (and FilmConvert has the correct profile) - I'm starting to think that log should really only be used in the situations where that extra DR is needed. There's supposed to be a firmware update coming that will add Canon Log 2 & 3, so I guess we'll see what happens then!
My only other tip would be that if you're shooting scenes with lots of movement it's generally best to use push-to-focus in manual focus mode, as the focus tends to wander in auto as the camera picks up faces.

Horrible 24 hours in the States.
We have a new Orange president.
What does this mean for Canon, Red, Panasonic, Sony, Arri?
Well the dollar may crash.
Maybe it won't - actually seems like it won't.
So no one knows what's going to happen to trade.
Will it help Red that manufactures in the States?
Again, who knows?
One thing we do know - this was a useless post.

Those are, to me, very cinematic images. What ISO were you shooting at?

Tim Sewell got a reaction from Lamplighter55 in Canon XC10 4K camcorder
Unfortunately, this is a camera marketed for handheld use in unpredictable shooting situations - so let's hope for a firmware solution!

Ianiro are the original redheads and are still competitively priced (http://www.ianirouk.com/categories.php?CategoryID=40) - even better if you can pick up a used kit on ebay!

Tim Sewell got a reaction from mercer in classic digital
Hi @mercer - sorry for the delay. I've only just had a chance to look at the camera.
First off I have to thank you - while I was fiddling through the menus the lens unstuck itself, so I now don't have to get it fixed!
Unfortunately, except in HFR mode, there's no indication of framerate anywhere - however I found this on dpreview:
So that seems fairly conclusive.

Sorry not to be the bearer of better news. The video sure does look nice, though, even within the limitations of framerate and bitrate. I always shoot it at 1/50 and motion is as good as I'd expect from this kind of camera.

Nice colours, but every clip I've seen from it has had horrible motion.
