I've never got why people mark this down as such a big con. My favourite camera from the past few years was my C100 Mk2, didn't need IBIS at all. The form factor doesn't need it. The main reason for IBIS (IMO) on the hybrids are the form factors aren't designed for video use, they're stills cameras and they're not the easiest to hold steady.

One thing I noticed when I looked into Resolve and tried to use it a few times is the massive lack of third party plugins for transitions, titles and effects and the ones that do exist seem to be such a horrid workaround to get working, that is if you can get them working at all. They need to add easy support for things like this.

I'm going to wager that the grown-up conversation going on on the other thread about the exciting new camera and it's capabilities is going to be a lot more interesting than this one.  Just a hunch.

Same! It'll be early next year, so plenty of time to see real life material from both Canon and Sony.

If they do add CLOG3 and ALL-I via firmware to the R6 it makes it something to look at. My main filming is weddings, so to know (UK wise) 4K 25 doesn't overheat will be the key and get 4K 50 for select shots. It'll be a hard choice between the R6 and Sony a7siii!

Paul Cryer reacted to Andrew Reid in GH5 owners - 6 months later, how are you liking it?
It has amazing dynamic range even in Rec.709.
It has remarkably low rolling shutter compared to Sony.
The 10bit files are amazing in low light with lots of 'depth' and richness to the shadows. It helps that it's so good in low light anyway with very clean ISO 3200.
Tons of features, I will write a guide about it but it will take a while.
Review coming soon, I know it's been ages but I will get round to it!

I'm a wedding shooter and just moving to GH5. Got a body by my desk and awaiting the two lenses I've ordered to arrive. I've gone for the 12-35 and 35-100 f.2.8ii models to give me the old favourite 24-70 and 70-200 equivalent. I'll be buying some Primes later in the year, probably the Leica ones. I've heard good things on the 12-60 as well. A couple of years ago I did have a GH4 with Speedbooster plus Sigma 18-35 and had issues with it. A number of times it'd cut out and just say 'lens not attached', happened during a ceremony once. Sort of lost my trust in using them, hence I've gone native glass this time.

I've also used the Xume adapters before and have got some for this kit. Best things I've ever purchased, makes changing NDs or filters between lenses really easy.

Shot on the GH5 in 3 days. A concept trailer done having a zero budget for our upcoming first feature film.
I really like what I can squeeze out of the internal 10 bit V-Log footage. DR, lowlight and colors are really good.
Everything was shot with sharpening and nr set to -5 and a Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter applied in front of the lens (12-35mm 2.8 V1, 20mm 1.7, 42.5mm 1.7) to make it smoother. Colorgrading done in Davinci Resolve. Drone shots by the DJI Mavic (the internal sharpening is hideous tbh...).

Sure it was on Canon Rumours. The C100 MKiii won't exist, they'll be a camera under the C300 MKii, but it won't be a continuation of the C100 line is what I think was said.

C100mkII to a6500 is a leap of faith! The best workhorse camera around the world vs a spec-King, a realistically amazing video camera vs an on paper amazing camera!
GH5 is a more reliable and well thought camera. To be fair, the a6xx series was never marketed as a professional camera series (the whole Sony APS-C line wasn't). The trend here is Sony as well, but most of the professionals (especially the older ones) are still Canon/Nikon fanatics.
I used to live in UK and the weddings there were nothing at all like Southern Europe, or other parts of the world, maybe you will be alright, I have a couple of friends in England working weddings and they do have A7sII/a6300(a6500) combo.
I just mentioned some facts that the cameras weren't good for me. People's needs and experiences vary, and thankfully we got a lot of good (and cheap) cameras these days.
Again, sorry if I sounded offensive! For pro video work, I would wait for the rumored C100markIII and FS5ii, I am even considering the new Ursa mini pro, which can take you from a run and gun gig, to a low budget feature film.

@Kisaha good to read the comments though. I was the same as you initially when people were telling me they were switching to this, especially with the overheating reports. I'll check out 1080P as well. A lot of wedding filmmakers over here in the UK have gone Sony, virtually all the big well known guys who do it have, possibly because a leading wedding filmmaker who is also a Sony brand ambassador and runs courses everyone goes on, so they all then go and switch to Sony after doing his course! I'm actually presently on a C100 MK2 but there are reasons I'm moving away. Panasonic GH5 is certainly a consideration though I did use to have a GH4 and didn't like using adapters (two times in a ceremony is stopped with 'lens not attached') and I had a few other issues with it too.

Thankfully I know a good number of people who use them for weddings (mainly as a b/c or Gimbal cam to A7sii or A7rii) and have no issues at all with them. Including continuous running in ceremonies and speeches. Infact the feedback I'm getting is that it is a great little camera to use. I am in the UK though so it doesn't get that hot. Rain on the other hand!

Thanks for the review Oliver. I'm about to get a Crane (so good to hear that is a nice gimbal) and in next 2 months have a decision to make. Sony or Panasonic. I'm a wedding shooter and leaning towards Sony and this camera as one of my cameras. I've seen numerous excellent wedding videos made with A6500s and a few people I know have moved to them and can't speak highly enough of them.

I plumped for the C100 MK2 a few months back. Love it. It is so easy to use and the image really does look nice. Yeah, it's not 4K but at this time and the clients I work for (weddings, events, conferences and web videos for businesses) who cares. I replaced my GH4 with it, no regrets at all. I can just pick up this camera and away you go, long battery life and due to the codec sizes a 64GB card can last me all day at a wedding.
Lens wise, I have the Sigma 18-35mm (great lens), Sigma 24-105 and the Canon EF-S 18-135. I do find the Canon lens slightly softer but it works a treat with the Dual AF system and Face autodetect.
I generally shoot in Wide DR, would anyone have any good picture profiles they'd recommend. For things like weddings, I prefer as near as possible out of the camera.
I've still to actually try C-LOG properly!

It works well with the 24-105, but I'm struggling to get it working with the 18-35 correctly. I have updted the firmware on the lenses and it seems to work ok with the continous focus option, but not well with the one shot focus option.

As I'm looking at a "Cinema Camera" in the next 12 months, I'm very interested in the Panasonic AF200 that is meant to be coming out. Plus some lenses for that camera.
I'm interested, though expect it'll be massively out of my price range, the C300 MKII. I'd love Canon to firmware unlock 4K out via HDMI on the C100 MKII, not gonna happen though. Possible 5DC as well?
Software wise, as a FCPX user, a big update to that software. Again rumours are something is coming around NAB even though Apple don't do NAB itself.

Paul Cryer reacted to Oliver Daniel in First day shoot with FS7 - thoughts..
Don't be expecting an Andrew Reid review here! These are my quick thoughts....

An FS7 landed on my desk yesterday for a music video shoot.

The camera is built like a rock and the grip is very comfortable. Shoulder mounting was pretty nifty. I had a brief go of shooting things round the office - yep, got it!

We set up the band performance scene in a derelict swimming baths inside a lunatic asylum estate. The roof had fallen in, so plenty of light. 2 inches of water was on the surface and it was slippy. Ideal day for a new camera! ;)

I started shooting with Canon FD L Series lenses, the mount I had was shit as it didn't click into place on the mount but it stayed on solid. No gulpy moments!

I came into an issue straight away. When I turned the camera on, it would just freeze when loading the image. It was set to 4k 50fps, so to unfreeze I had to set it back to 25fps then back to 50fps. This started to become a major issue as every time the camera was switched off I would have to do this over and over again. Needs a fix fast!!!

Another issue was the responsiveness of the buttons. It felt like the buttons didn't work properly combined with slow software. This was tedious because the menus are ridiculously complicated. To change from 4k to 1080p 180fps feels like a lifetime!! They definitely need to work on this!!!

I filmed in Slog3, dynamic range is superb. You can also view footage with a LUT. I did in 709. Images looked great on the monitor, very clear and sharp. Peaking is very good too.

I held the camera for around 25 angles of a 3:30min song. All handheld for a frantic feel. My right arm was dead by the end of the shoot, and my back was punished. Expected really. Shooting felt right though. ;)

To get the most out of this camera, you need a lot of hard drive space. A 64gb card lasts 15 minutes at 4k 50fps. I filled 6 cards and dumped them throughout the day. As an owner, you will definitely need to factor in hard drives into the cost. You will need many.

I really loved this little feature with a light meter on the display to tell you if parts of the image were too high in exposure or too low. The function of a histogram but different. Quite nifty.

The footage looks great, very impressive. Very low noise. Clear and sharp. Dynamic range is fabulous. I can't release any images or footage due to confidentiality yet, but very pleased with the results. Will share on release.

My overall thoughts on first use is that the camera is a great piece of kit, but let down by some shoddy firmware which ruins the user experience. Sony really need to update it fast. This is a serious production camera and it covers so many bases. You can shoot in lower bit rates at 1080 if you wish, but to use the best features - you need a crapload of hard drives.

Once Sony sort out the firmware, this will be an excellent camera!
