Hey the 2 unicorns of the mirrorless camera world - Sony A7s3 and now Nikon Z6 with raw both finally revealed in the same week. Must be nearly xmas...
Looking forward to seeing the full potential of the Z6 now, with prices they're going for, if you don't mind bolting on the Ninja this could be a great combination

Good thorough review - interesting to see it copes considerably better than the Canon c500mk2 with dynamic range when pushing over and under exposure using internal Sony XAVC and Canon's XFAVC respectively. Wonder how the internal raw on the Canon compares?
Also the AF on the Sony seemed to kick in and track a lot earlier than on the Canon. Be good to see some more thorough testing between these 2 cameras
-
That's great news regarding the AF, hopefully it will be at least as good as it was on the video side before they ballsed it up in firmware 3
-
That's interesting, the 2 people I know with C200s both have said its face tracking AF is not to be trusted on a professional shoot and they use object tracking instead. They were both disappointed the C200 AF didn't work as well as it did on the 1dxmk2 and 5d4. Hopefully the EOS-r is as good as the dslr's

me too - this and the AF issues are all that make the XT3 the perfect hybrid for me (oh yeah IBIS would also be nice in the next iteration...)

Downloaded the original ProRes files available on this Vimeo link - wow the colour straight out of camera, detail from downsampling 6k to 4k, and amazingly clean lowlight at 12800 iso - this camera looks much closer to Venice than it does FS7. Really beautiful footage, unless you need raw this camera is going to be hard to beat

Stunning shots! The XT3 is a hell of a camera. I keep looking at others but always come back to it.
Yes thought I read you were thinking of 'upgrading' to an Eos-r. Sounds like a downgrade to me, the Xt3 is a special little camera, punches way above its weight
-
Yes I think this camera will do well, it seems to be compared with the c500mk2, but if you don't need raw and 6k (not many people do) the fx9 is a much cheaper proposition with great colour and AF, vari nd, a loupe, new lenses with proper manual and AF functions coming soon, e-mount which can handle pretty much any lens, and will most likely match perfectly with the fs7 which dominates much of the mid range sector. I think it will sell well. As will the c500mk2 for those who need raw.
-
The image does look nice but if you want to record raw this camera is a bit of a mess - you need the XDCA-FX9 extension unit which is $2500 plus a recorder. Electronic vari nd is great but if you are willing to pay the extra, the c500 MK2 looks a better thought out camera.
The new e-mount lens FE C 16-35mm T3.1 G could be interesting though as it looks like it has both proper manual control (no focus by wire) and servo and also AF - best of both worlds

$10,998 so a lot less than the C500 mk2 but yes no internal RAW

From what I have read the face tracking is not very good on the C200, especially in comparison with the 1dx. Object tracking is more reliable on the C200 but is a bit cumbersome as you have to program a button, press it and then select a target. You can't just touch the face on the screen and it tracks like on the 1dx

Am not in the market for it but my work possibly are - UK price here is £17k whilst it's $16k in the U.S. (which comes to less than £13k with the current exchange rate)
I know we have to pay more here but not quite sure why they've hiked the C500 up so much - for comparison the UK price of the C200 is £5.8k, in the US it's $6.5k

The Oktava is great budget mic so long as you don't move it around, very sensitive for handling noise - would be ok for interviews, the Rycote babyball gag helps. The at4053b is a lovely sounding mic and more forgiving when on a boom. I also have the ntg3 which as Sage says is best outdoors but surprisingly good indoors if the space isn't too reverby

I'm sure Geoff meant XT3

Is this meant to be a solo operated camera? Or more rigged up? The OG C500 was more of their cinema camera option.
This camera is a beast. The Canon Cinema cameras have always been my favorite. I was honestly surprised at the price tag. I expected closer to 20k.
it's small enough for solo operator seems silly to make it so tricky - although audio has always seemed like an after thought with the Canon cinema cameras - having it on top of the handle on my C100 has been a pain in the arse

The little detachable evf is another $700, $6000 for the proper one

-
oh really, that's very disappointing, am sure the CVP video mentioned it
-
Looks good, IBIS is a nice surprise - wonder how effective it will be. Also surprised it doesn't have RF mount available. Slightly cheaper than had been reported but agree with Django I think this will be more for rental, most people don't seem to be wanting to spend over £10k on a camera these days

the blue channel clipping from cheap blue LED lights is a problem with pretty much all the modern sensors it seems, happens on Sony and Canon cameras too - there's an interesting thread that talks about it on DVxuser, from post #143 onwards, one solution seems to be to change the white balance to 5600k

to me it is the main wickness of this camera, you cannot claim it is a cinema camera and not let fully control the settings
who claims that, certainly not Panasonic - the S1 is a hybrid camera, the S1H is the cinema camera

with Sony s-log 2 and particularly slog 3 seem to need 10 bit to work properly, the 8 bit version on the a6300 and A7s i tried were prone to banding and other strange artifacts - Canon clog and even Fuji f-log seem to be more forgiving in 8 bit (although it's nice to have the 10 bit internal with Fuji)
