I wouldn't say the GH5S is not "all-in" for video. Seems balls deep in video to me.

Well, it's great it does RAW and ProRes, but the GH5 and X-T3 have a longer list of video focused features in total. The GH5 including some very major features like an EVF, anamorphic mode and IBIS.

I don't see what is wrong with 10bit 4:2:2 either, maybe I am missing something.

It is time for this Pocket 4K hype to get a reality check.

Probably as soon for most people as they open the box.

I think it comes down to what you look for in your final project, and not what “most people” want in terms of features. It’s just flame war at this point. Kind of like a console war between Xbox and PlayStation. I still bring my own bmpcc to work, even though we have a canon c200 (whatever it’s called) at the office. Some people just prefer a different look and a different work style (as in terms of handling). And again, you don’t need to buy the P4K if you don’t want to, if you have the GH5s go out and shot with it then.

... but come on 8MP stills? Is this 2006?

I printed 11x17 prints from DNG’s of the BMPCC, so knowing I’m getting 8Mb of data compared to 1.9Mb this time around. I don’t see a problem. Also been doing portrait work with it for companies such as Beam Suntory and some architecture firms; https://www.olarch.com/retail

I wonder how many units B & H received and is shipping out this first batch, did you asked?

I did not get a chance to ask that, but I do feel like most of us who ordered from there are either on here or bmcuser, and on here it’s just me and MurtlandPhoto as far as people who have written in this thread. Seems like another 5 or so people over at BmcUser also had theirs shipped. Who knows, maybe they got like 10 ?

Also, anyone here have experience with the battery brand Green Extreme? They have a pretty good deal on 2 batteries plus a double charger. I have a single charger already but was thinking about buying 5-6 Watson batteries tomorrow and then came across this brand that’s 5dollars cheaper than Watson.

I got a shipping notification about 5 minutes ago ?

Ugh! I called them and because I had pick up in store they first needed to ship it out from their warehouse in NJ, and that’s why it wouldn’t come today so they asked if I just wanted it sent straight to my house and I just went ahead and changed that. The representative said my copy was the only one left in the warehouse just sitting there LOL! Well well, at least it’s coming!

Well didn’t BM already raise the advertised price on their site? As far as I heard, Petty only said that they’re working on it, I didn’t hear that they said they had it in mind all along. I wonder why they didn’t release with it.

True, but maybe the codec itself is in "beta" and they want to stabilize it first before adding it to BMCCP4K. Who knows what the deal is...

Yes it can. Look at any modern computer, usually the proccessor's heat sync is connected by small copper pipes filled with gas to the heat block and on modern computers this can be up to a foot or more away (although usually it's less than a few inches). This property is what allows laptops to be so thin. They could easily use an external heat sync and put a water tight seal around the pipes going to it.

I just think we’re seeing the residue of the earlier outbreak. I love this site, would never wanna get on the bad side of Andrew but I feel like down the pipeline, he’ll probably have one and really enjoy it.

Could you possibly test the quality, directionality and if there's camera handling noise from the internal mics please?  I've got a suspicion they've done something very clever with them..

Not a trained audio guy really. Know the basics, but can set audio levels and talk in some environments that I would assume would be what you’d try to do with it without external mics.

Are there any 1080p ProRes tests floating around? I’m searching for a reason to buy the P4K over another Pocket or even a GH5 in a few months, but I haven’t really seen anything that makes it a must have. I’m really hoping the 1080p ProRes will sell me on it.

If I get mine tomorrow I can do every single test anyone needs on here. I need to learn the camera so what better way than to take requests!

Haven’t used the UI since I shot with an UM4K like 2 years ago. So lots of shooting the coming days if I get it!

Holy crap they just charged mine as well! Thank you for the heads up. :)

Have mine on pick up at superstore, still waiting for confirmation but they close in 10min so will def not happen today! God, I kinda wanna go to bed haha

I called BH Photo again and the customer service person said there was some type of delay and they are now anticipating receiving their shipment on the 10th to ship out by 12th...

Feels like every time someone calls, there’s a new reason. Guess we all just need to sit tight.

This footage looks A LOT like the GH5 to me. The OG pocket doesn't clip like this? Could be post processing I suppose. Looks pretty gone to me.

I stopped watching cause of how horribly they've treated the footage. Not a good watch.

Hehe yeah, I don't know ;)  It was still sealed with plastic and I guess he's a busy man !

I know many stores who have a sealer in store. Bought second hand stuff before fully sealed. Anyway, not saying that's what happend but sounds weird! Hope no further problems pop up for you!

Just opened the box, put a battery, a lens and a card. First impressions : the camera looks like it has already been used or feels like a prototype (which it is not)... The rubbers on the side protecting the ports don't feat snuggly, especially the top one. The sensor had a dust on it, the body cap has scratches, etc. The camera feels plastic, easily scratchable (if it's a word), a little bit less well finished than the previous blackmagic cameras (I haven't used all of them to be fair). Maybe it is still very rugged and it is just to remove some weight. There was some kind of screen protector misplaced on the back of the camera. Hehe but it's all ok I guess ! :joy:

The good part now : when you turn on the camera, the screen is so big, so nice ! It's great ! The buttons while feeling cheap, are well-placed, responsive, so is the touchscreen. The menu, the function buttons are a delight ! It is very user friendly ! The noise at high ISO seems negligeable (just judging by the rear display, haven't recorded anything yet). The peaking is red and I haven't found a way to customize it (I'm sure you can do it, as you could in the past BM products). Extended video looks great (even if the weather and light is very dull right now, it needs further testing :)

The funny thing is... I can't find where you format the card ! Seriously... Haha... If someone knows where it is. And apparently I'll be able to record 4K 60p PRORES HQ with just my SD card (the ones for Sony UHD xavc s) And I can't change the language in the menu (It doesn't bother me at all, but it really seems like a beta firmware ?!)

Edit : I just found how to format the card. You have to touch the icon, it's not in the menu. I have also found for the peaking and zebra settings :(

Maybe the Owner of the store played with it some before selling it after all ?

I don’t think this camera is aimed at the average person. It’s not a camera for filming family holidays. Of course, you can use it for that, but the target demographic is as an A cam for young filmmakers and students or a B cam for higher profile projects.

In those scenarios what you give up may not be relevant.

I do use it for that haha

One of the best things about getting a P4k from CVP is the fun one can have dissolving all the packaging bits (like tasteless Wotsits for those who know such things).

In a 8Sinn cage it’s certainly quite large - just searched my wardrobe and definitely don’t have a suitably sized pocket.

Right... initial review done so I’ll attach a lens...

Which 8sin did you get? I’m looking at the half cafe with Scorpio handle.

Shrug, I like my GH5, Metabones Speedbooster 0.64XL, and either 18-35 Sigma Art, or Tokina 11-16.

Both lens work great, yes, there is some vignetting on the wider ends, I just zoom until I find it acceptable.

Not hard to do, though, those follow focus rings would be nice to have, I will have pick some up.

I want to try a Sigma Art 11-24 FF lens, no doubt I will probably get one...

    12-24 f4?
