Its charge only through USB but its certainly a decent option to have if you are out as you can always find something or somewhere with a USB outlet to put a bit of juice in.

I've ordered one of these until the BM cable pack is available.

Its £35 which is not much more than the cost of the dummy battery thats included which, once you have that, there are obviously a lot of other options to power it off Sony batteries etc.

I'm definitely looking forward to sporting the very fetching belt pack.

I meant USB C from my battery pack to DC in to P4K. What are you going to use when you get the cable kit from BMD?

Why not use the Velcro on the cable? Slip it under the strap hook thingy on the corner of the camera and then the drive doesn’t dangle.

Although I guess that’s not an issue for you anymore.

Yeah, it was just an extreme example here. I had it secured if I was moving around obviously before I got the cage. Point was I didn’t need to pay even more money to be able to use it. And I know you know that, just re-iterating for other members. Point is, the camera is fully functional out of box with no other need than storage and lens. People who say other, sadly have an expensive way of using their skills (or maybe they don’t have any skills and need to pay for it to look somewhat good?)

  3. Also people saying “oh this is a must, and this is a must” and then people on here quoting and saying this like “that’s fucking crazy, I thought this would be an amazingly easy camera to use”, like what the hell people! We all have different ways of using the camera. I don’t shoot/use my equipment like everyone else of you. E.g it doesn’t apply to all of us. If they came out with a paintbrush for a painter and he was like “I don’t like the strokes of the squirrel hair” do you think every other artist in the world would have gone bonkers and screamed hell at this new brush?!

It’s become a witch hunt in here. It’s sad because a lot of you are tech enthusiasts like myself and your clouding your minds for no reason. Be happy this technology exists, it’s a wonderful camera.

I do get there should be better quality control for many things on this camera, and it's far from 'perfect'. But a lot of these comments, not just from Andrew seem quite nit picky. For example, complaining you need expensive media is a result of having such a big codec. If you don't want the codec, there's other options with cheaper media. If you want RAW and ProRes out of the camera, expensive media is the price you have to pay.  That said, as soon as BRAW hits, this whole issue is out the window.

Same with the M43 lens distortion, if you're buying this for the an unprocessed image from the sensor, don't complain that it's not been processed. Granted, for ProRes recordings it could be nice, but then people would complain the ProRes looks so different form the RAW. I like that they're almost indistinguishable until you hit heavy grades.

Andrew, you mention the battery door in almost every comment about this camera, but as far as I know, only 1 person here has had an issue with it, and it was solved by BMD or the reseller quickly. It just doesn't seem to be an issue, just one faulty unit.

Then adding cages and monitors - that's 100% optional and is far from a requirement to make it work.

Anyway, I don't wish to rant or persuade people one way or the other about this camera. I'm enjoying using it, I'm enjoying editing it, and I'm enjoying riging it up and stripping it down.

Yeah, I had the camera before most and I have written about my experience, which has been amazing. But NO ONE ever quotes me in here. And Andrew, yes, he just keeps talking about that battery door, I switch my batteries a lot cause I keep the camera on while testing so burn through them pretty quickly (yes it drains your batteries if you have third party, listen to AaronChicago or what his name is, OFFICIAL CANON is the way to go for maximum running time) so I open and close that battery door A LOT with ZERO problems.

I’ve used the camera ALOT outdoors and yes the screen gives of glare but I can still use it without problem! I also shoot handheld, and haven’t felt a need to “rig” it up for more money, I bought a half cage with handle because I am used to shoot with ANY camera, that style. Getting a holder for T5 was just a plus as I had it hanging out (and let me tell you, with zero problems) before and it was just ugly.

Everyone complaining and raising concerns are people that DOES NOT have the camera.

  5. I don’t know what batteries you guys are using but the only one that is giving me problems is the one that came with the camera. When using it, the touchscreen stops working sometimes and I go from 100-shut off completely random. Where I can after a shut off turn it back on. Again, these problems are ONLY with the provided battery. Watson and Green Extreme batteries work perfectly fine for me. Kind of scared to continue to use the Bm battery.

I get 10 seconds, sometimes 15+ seconds - depends on the scene, so it doesn't work without a problem.

I will try more and see what my median for 60fps is.

edit: you’re right, the second I took it outside and shot in sunlight, it stops under 10sec. So with T5 you can at least do 30fps 4K DCI without having to worry.

  7. I feel like I read somewhere people being scared that you can’t shoot lossless 4K DCI and record with T5. Well today was the first time I plugged it in and it definitely takes it. I tried 23.976 recorded for 5min before I was convinced enough. Did 30fps recorded for 5min, convinced. And finally 60fps which did get a frame drop after 40seconds. But that’s 40sec 60fps lossless RAW 4K DCI on a 100dollar drive!

The T5 works great! No problems at all here!

An interesting comparison between P4K and C200

That’s not a comparison really, he’s not even saying that they’re doing a comparison. It’s like taking the new Mad Max movie where they used the OG pocket and saying it’s a comparison to the Alexa. Lol

I had a similar experience (albeit ordered soon after it was announced). I emailed them to ask for an approximate shipping date and it was dispatched immediately.

Alright, I did send them a message on FB. Will try the email route as well, thanks!

Threw together a quick video about the 8Sinn FULL CAGE First Impressions.

I don't normally do these types of videos, it was shot on my Pixel 2. Used a LAV. Pretty basic.

Did you buy it from their website? I ordered  a week ago, payment went through right away and it said 4-5 day shipping. But looking today on order info it still says “processing” for me. How long did it take you to get it?

Why did you choose to take stills with the pocket?

At the time I was asked to do photography for work I had already sold off my canon and I had already been working with stills from the DNG’s on personal projects so thought, what the hell, let’s try it. The client loved the images and decided to continue with me so I saw no reason investing in a stills camera. This was a couple of years ago, still getting photo jobs. And now going from 1.9Mb DNG to almost 13Mb is just less post adjustments for me. Win/Win! I’ve done product shots with the bmpcc too.

  12. Funny how people on here say they don’t want the camera but still come back to have opinions about it, a camera barely no one has their hands on yet and they probably have never even seen in real life on top of that.

As someone who owns it (and loves it!) and also still owns the OG pocket, I can let you know that with both cameras I get paid 700dollars a day to take pictures with them. Funny right!

    Next week is first day to take pictures with the P4K actually. I have a very simple work flow with it, just load your DNG into ACR and voila! Here’s a load of pictures taken with OG pocket if you wanna have a look;

My feelings exactly.  The 60/120p slow-mo is cool and all, but what about the 24p, 30p?  How about showing what it offers in 1080p.  One can only hope.

Does Anyone shoot Anything in normal speeds anymore? Jesus what is the deal with trying to see if Anything is worth a crap on a camera at 120p Slo Mo. Sam Peckinpah is alive and well.

I uploaded a few ProRes 1080p 24fps in this thread last week.

  14. So they released the list of cards, drives that are officially supported:

    https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/

And I find it interesting that they say that the Samsung T5 does different flavors of RAW depending on size, like the 500Gb can not do as much as the 1Tb. Anyone understands why? I might go ahead and get those Sony SDs 128Gb. So expensive but I've decided to go with SD for on the run and T5 for actual projects.
