I get that, I was referring to independent DPs, not those with huge budgets to work with. Never working with anamorphic and then renting a set for an important shoot isn't really advisable. The way you compose a frame is just different

I bet you could use a wider taking lens and no WA converter and it would almost be the same but better quality image.

Everything you've mentioned seems very plausible, Canon is known for their tier system. They also believe 4K is not the be all end all for all shooters, so it would make sense that they retire the C100, drop the C100ii price, and bring the C200 in at the original C100ii MSRP.

The licensing excuse is not the real reason that camera manufacturers don't provide shallow mounts.  M4/3 works fine for up to S35, and there must about 5 zillion ways for manufacturers to allow a female E-mount mount (or an EF-M mount) on their camera/adapters, while avoiding licensing problems.  One easy way is to simply provide a front plate with just screw holes and the end user can purchase the female e-mount separately.
 
I saw the Kinefinity e-mount adapter at NAB, and it is definitely the way for camera manufacturers to go -- provide a shallow mount (simple mount plates are best) and make adapters for every possible lens.

Honestly, Mattias' LS300 footage is better than anything I have seen from the GH5. With this update, this camera is epic. I don't love the form factor and I have no intention of buying one, but it really is unmatched at this price point.

You can do a 48fps mode on 7D you don't need to stretch.

I came to the same conclusion using all the various Kowas I have (baby and otherwise), basically being that I really can't go any wider with a WA adapter than I can with the widest taking lens. To use the WA adapter I have to use a longer taking lens and I end up at the same focal length pretty much. Also I tried some super big WA adapters but didn't like the IQ at all. I like most people thought that this was going to be a cool way to shoot wider, but it didn't really turn out like that haha.

Won't be anything close to 4K on 700D. This article should be talking about 7D imo, as it's the best value for money with usable sustained write speeds due to CF cards. (You can almost shoot 1080p 14bit RAW on 7D already, it would benefit greatly from this port).

The widest I've managed in apsc is 28mm (in video mode and cropped to 2.4:1). There is a guy on the anamorphic shooters group on Facebook that uses a 40mm on fullframe.

I emailed Edmika and got his conversion mounts for them. I really like them, the lenses end up a bit smaller and lighter than they once were and the material he uses is super nice, they mount perfectly with no play or stiffness. Highly recommended. 

Given the shallower DOF and better low light on APS-C you really have to compare an F2.8 lens on µ4/3 with F4 lenses on Sony. The smaller the sensor the easier it is to build f2.8 lenses, so naturally they will be cheaper.

I was doing a similar thing but then converted my best FD's to EOS. I use an Elan 7e most the time now and an OM10 if I'm shooting film and want to keep it small.

Finally got around to editing some clips together.
 
 

Good suggestion, but you need Edmika mount conversion, as adapters don't exist. This is still a very cost effective solution imo, especially if you take into consideration the great price of FD glass.
