No, it's the same sensor as the F55 with a lower end CFA array, slightly different color science, and no global shutter. A really nice image and good workhorse, but the price puts it out of casual purchase territory. As a business investment, it's a little long in the tooth to make your ROI back in a timely manner. Personally, I would reach for other Sony bodies.

It's unclear if the FS7 sensor is a stripped down version of the F5 sensor or an updated version of the FS700's, but either way it doesn't offer any unique look or capabilities.

While that is a beautiful video, with a fantastic grade,  I really dislike that these things are labelled "Dolby Vision." Youtube DOES NOT support Dolby Vision, only HLG, which is worse than HDR10 format in terms of image quality. It may have been graded in Dolby Vision but it is not Dolby Vision display on youtube.

This youtube video lists the camera as "Ursa Mini Pro 12k".
Wow - impressive!  The color rendition is special in the way that the different shades of a color appear distinct and unique even when they are very similar.  I also like the motion cadence.  The image is solid and without distraction.  It's nice to not have any obvious flaws that steel my attention from the content.

Is amazing. I love it. Never going back to RED unless I’m forced to by a client.
Just thought I would share. The IQ is pristine, colors are great and it’s just a breeze to use. Will post a few stills here in a day or two.

I can think of a couple of YouTubers that could be that third guest and you'd could probably then sell the PPV rights to Showtime.

Even with the GH5 I put a monopod first. I rarely use IBIS. And do not even mention the new fashion of NOT bringing a tripod/monopod because of IBIS, I see a lot of "kids" doing this.

IBIS and Cinematic Footsge have almost nothing to do with each other. The whackos at top gear used a camera with IBIS and then used it for shots in a car where they probably did terrain that was probably inundated with stones and pebbles and the microjitters sent the camera into a tizzy. I am guessing even OIS lenses must have produced some sort of warped wobble (though way less prominent than IBIS), and the footage needed some stabilization in post, regardless.
IMHO all IBIS should have locking mechanisms for the stabilization and the amount of stabilization needs more precise control.
In many situations like handholding a shot, especially where you need a tripod equivalent (not all those shots that require a stabilizer for running, or doing pans and tilts etc), IBIS is way better than actually setting up a tripod shot. Tripod shots look super boring. Handheld shorts have a certain cinematic feel, because they feel a lot more engaging and realistic. Tilts and pans and other movements on trolleys and rigs obviously have another level of cinematic feel. But they require quite a lot of time for bei nbf setup. Hybrid cameras have been designed with quick turnaround and more vertalitiy in mind. Reigging is always time consuming.
Plus, in all manner of photography (as opposed to videography), IBIS ensures way sharper photos at almost all frame rates, except perhaps 1/125 and higher. For the longest, Olymous cameras offered the equivalent of Google Pixel's Night Shot, merely by letting users push shutter speeds as low as 2-3 seconds (some people claim even longer) that would never be possible for anything that lacked IBIS.
IBIS also compensates for lighter cameras. The S5 is lighter and I am guessing that is the biggest reason for the much less effective IBIS on it.
@IronFilmthe issue with GH5s is that it is purely a video camera, lacking both IBIS AND  a higher MP count, so never succeeded as a hybrid. It obviously has other advantages like better low light, higher dynamic range and faster readout.

Is this site now boycotting Canon, after the R5 experience ?  It's just that the Canon EOS C70 4K Digital Cinema Camera has been announced and there is no mention of it on this site.  It looks pretty good to me, but I was wondering Andrew's take.... 🙂

So here's a simple story:  I was in the market to hire a guy about 4 years ago for a video shoot.  A shooter contacted me to inquire about the gig, but had almost no experience with motion pictures.
He was just getting into video from photography and he asked me if his lowly Pentax, which only did 60p @720 would be okay.  His photos showed that he had a great eye for composition and when we talked about the assignment he explained that he was a video neophyte, but was willing and eager to learn.
Seemed like a bit of a risk to hire this dude. After all here was a guy shooting on a decidedly not video-centric DSLR and admitting that video wasn't his main thing.  After some coaching, both of us reviewing past examples of the job I was hiring him for, and collaborating about what I wanted to see in the footage, we decided to partner up, and off he went.
Meanwhile, I simultaneously hired another guy for the same sort of shoot on the opposite side of the country.  Dude made sure to tell me more than once what his list of gear included (would you also like to know about his C300 and PL mount lenses?  Apparently he was convinced I did) --and how he was a video professional with years of experience.  Sure, he knew what I wanted, not a problem; don't even need to discuss it.  After watching past examples of the job and assuring me he could do it, off he went.
With that narrative set-up you can probably imagine who delivered spot on incredible b-roll shots that were a bit IQ mushy, but captured great scenarios and emotion --and who gave me a pile of shit footage with no cohesiveness or creativity, (plus couldn't even get the horizon level) but sure looked super sharp with great colors.
I don't know if any of this is germane to the thread, but... Here's hoping that niche players like aspiring videographer Phil from North Carolina hang in there...and their camera gear supplier does too.

Hey y'all! Sorry I wasn't able to get footage up sooner. I've been feeling under the weather this week, which has been understandably stressful given COVID. Still waiting for my test results, but I'm improving steadily, so hopefully everything comes back negative.

But enough about me--let's get to the fun part.

    https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nYFylo03zFn2W-P5OtZ08xvZEuQrscGh?usp=sharing

These shots are just casual off-the-cuff clips taken around my apartment complex, but hopefully they still prove useful to those interested in how the F3 grades. I tried to get a variety of lighting scenarios, shot sizes, and color temps. The cookbook shot is ISO 1600, and the one under the bed is maxed out at 6400. Everything else is at the F3's base ISO of 800.

At @mercer's request, I've included some cats this time. 😁

Keep in mind that I sometimes adjusted/bracketed focus or exposure during shots, so be sure and scrub through to find the most useful frames.

Let me know if y'all have any other questions!

TheRenaissanceMan reacted to channing in Body/System recommendation
Been banging around here reading topics for a few days. I own an Oly E-M5 II, 12-40 pro lens, 60 macro and a few others. I haven't had GAS in a long time as it has suited my purposes. Mostly product photos of my own stuff, some landscape photography, bug macros, etc. I have learned to live with the DR for landscapes and some of the other drawbacks of M43. I use pixel shift fairly frequently for product photos when I need the extra detail and I love the IBIS.
Recently, with how marketing has gotten in my industry I have started to get in to video a bit more and am looking at a body upgrade or a system switch.
I have an RX100 VI I have been using lately but as good as the video quality is, it can be irritating for what I need to mostly use it for (close up pans of relatively small objects on a slider or a gimbal, sometimes handheld, sometimes with a slypod and Aircross 2 in concert) and I would like more versatility (especially with focal length, having to stick the RX100 inches from the product at 24mm to get the closest focus is....problematic). The Olympus 1080 quality is kind of meh but I really enjoy it in use as I can just shoot some of the video handheld and it's fine with a little stabilization in post. I'm usually in a hurry!
I'm looking at getting a Panasonic G9 or switching systems to a Nikon Z6. My girlfriend has a bunch of FF Nikon gear including some old MF lenses (Bokina (sharper at 1:1 than my Olympus 60mm for macro, 12mm, etc) so with an FTZ I could get by with just the 24-70 F4 initially. With Panasonic I would probably swap my Oly 12-40 for a Panasonic 12-35 2.8 for the improved AF, keep the 60mm macro + flashes and not really be out much money after selling the e-m5 II with accessories.
I really prefer FF image quality but feel like I would be giving up a good deal for what I primarily do. (better IS, greater DOF at a given shutter speed and aperture, pixel shift, etc)
What would you guys recommend for primarily product video of relatively small objects? The rest of my video needs could probably be met with a cell phone honestly and I will be keeping the RX100 in either case for slow motion/blogging stuff
Should probably add that my girlfriend and I do some paid RE photography + other stuff from time to time.

The only reason I downvoted you is because I intensely dislike your post-truth, conspiratorial worldview: I think it stands in the way of productive discussion. You calling me (a yearlong, very inactive member who has basically only posted about Blackmagic and RED during his time here) a Canon shill, instead of applying even a modicum of Occam's Razor and just assuming I'm someone in disagreement with your tone and ideas, really goes to prove my point. Anyhow.

That is not a minor quibble when it comes to our clients' confidence in us. We don't need any more hurdles (big or small) to doing our job and "selling" a client (who only knows enough to ask for a Red) on a different camera package gets old fast. If the EVA2 looked more like a baby Varicam, I would be very happy.

Thats odd as S35 cinema cameras cost a lot more than many fullframe hybrids..   and I'd rather have the money to buy a C300, a Red Komodo or an URSA 12k over a fullframe A7C,  or any other fullframe hybrids for that matter... 😆😆
