Only, only, only, only, only, only, only, only, only, Sony waited until their smartphone division is almost dead before leveraging their in-house imaging knowledge. Their new flagship looks very good on paper (4K 60p HDR) and a big 24mm 12mp sensor.
Hopefully it is not too little to late. Although, picking one of these in a clearance sale would not be bad either. I guess this means no 5G or 4G connectivity in their cams etc.

I thought every creator was trying to hit that 10+ mins mark (sometimes by fluffin' their content with nothingness).
One time Pewdiepie uploaded his content and half/0.5x speed so it would extend over the 10+ mark and viewers would have to 2x speed to get it up to normal pace (doesn't quite work btw) for the 5 min video. He also dropped in words like 'real estate', 'investment' etc into a video once to get the YouTube algorithm to feature higher profile ads with more revenue.

I recently enquired to some Make Up Artist Youtubers to feature in a small brand campaign.

    All of them had agents.
On the lower end at around 100k subscribers , they were on average around £18k to hire for just a 4 hour shoot.
On the higher end at around 18 million subscribers, average £100,000 for the same.
On top of that, you’re limited to £1k worth of ad spend per campaign and only usage of the video for a month.
Never knew YouTubing was that lucrative, and stringent.

3 or 4 years ago this would've been a huge release. Today though it's hard to justify spending $900 on this when there's so many options out there, even from Canon themselves.
I'm sure it'll be a good, maybe even great, camera, but it's 2020... These specs are real late to the party.

Wrong. The poor Canon spent all it's budget in the 24p license, no money left to license 30p.

Stabilization and C-AF on fleek... hum, not. Doesn't seem like any of the knock-offs really comes close to the Osmo Pocket image quality. Just that they were able to learn from DJI's mistakes regarding ergonomics/connectivity (one has a built-in joystick, some 3.5mm mic input and of course bluetooth/Wi-Fi onboard (one even with bluetooth audio recording)).
DJI should follow it up already with a 1" sensor Hasselblad Pro version.

Is it mirrorless? Does it have sensor stabilization? Does it do 4K60p? Anything in 10-bit? What's the 4K crop like? Will it DualPixel autofocus? Dual cardslot? Full sized HDMI? Mic-in + headphone ports?
Let me save you the speculation. It's an entry level Canon camera. It will have a bunch of regurgitated specs, underwhelming features and a whole lot of impact from the Canon Cripple Hammer. Will feel overpriced too. Especially looking at the competition.

I've been living under a rock/been slightly off the grid for a couple of days, so didn't actually notice anything about it. But it's hilarious, first they need firmware to give people 24p... now they won't go beyond it, lol.

lol, saw others online calling it the 'E-M1 Mark IIJ' (so not 'III' but the 'J' of 'joystick' added) or the 'E-M1 Mark II Mark II' (a 2nd iteration of the Mark II). xD Pretty spot on.

That Vazen looks really cool.  If you're into anamorphic then it might be a situation of "the only lens you'd ever need" having the width of a FF equiv 31mm spherical lens, putting it squarely between the 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm lenses.  Many classic films were shot on a single prime, and that one isn't too big or heavy (720g), unlike the 40mm (1.8kg).

Actually really quite interesting, e.g. how they combat focus breathing and T-stop measurement conditions.
Sticking to cinema lenses... Vazen now as well with MFT 28mm T2.2 1.8x anamorphic. Almost looks Veydra-sized.

The Petzval or the VLEV HELIOS? 😛
Getting the Petzval in brass black and the IGA VLEV HELIOS in black without any optic mods in metric PL mount with their PL to EF adapter (I do like the look of the white one, but there's a reason most lenses are black, want to keep reflections to a minimum). Did go with the 16 bladed aperture mod (which I didn't notice was an option until I saw the Stormtrooper's listing and went over its specifics, so 8, 13 or 16; luckily my order was delayed, there were some production improvements made).
I do realize my new year's resolution was to refrain from purchases, but I'm a lens nut, like an alcoholic saying 'ok, now this will really be my last drink'. Also excited for the Sirui anamorphic to start shipping. And all of these were backed with vast discounts, so not like it's thrown away money, they aren't Handevision Ibelux or Meyer Optik Görlitz hipster mark up value bubble lenses, they actually sell for what they're about worth and should retain their value quite well.

No worries. Sometimes I wonder if ZachGoodwin is a real boy or a character someone has created. With that said, I'll play along... I think the point of the "hometown" documentary was supposed to be a simple assignment to get you working on a quick and small film. So, I wouldn't worry too much about the demise of the project. But if there is a business or even an interesting person that would allow you to make a film about them and it intrigues you, then go for it.
I think the greater point you need to think about is that a filmmaker needs a film to make to be a filmmaker.
I always thought you wanted to be a narrative filmmaker, so why not spend your time making 60 second short films? Write it, cast it, shoot it and edit it. Then wash, rinse, repeat.
    Good luck.

The Panasonic G9 is a really underrated stills camera. It gets overlooked because it's M43 but it's awesome. The IBIS is a dream!
Perhaps look into the a6600 as well, if you're not willing to go the M43 route? It's a little over your budget but not by much.
