Nikon Z7 has it for breakfast.
About the only improvement over the 5D Mark IV seems to be substituting MJPEG for H.264. Not that it was overdue or anything!
    https://www.eoshd.com/2018/09/here-are-the-official-video-specs-of-the-canon-eos-r-full-frame-mirrorless/
About only thing I can hope for is that the 4K is somehow full frame and not a crop but I honestly just think it is a 5D Mark IV in a mirrorless body, looking at the specs sheet, rather than anything really new.

I reckon Fuji's strategy is the longest term of anyone, it's predicting a future where full frame is the new APS-C and medium format is the default large sensor choice. You could have the full frame crop for sports at faster shooting rates and the full medium format coverage when you need extra resolution and incredible resolving power of a high-end medium format lens at F4.
I think it could get more cost effective... not as in £1000 but £3000 to compete with top-end full frame cameras.
I've been very happy with the GFX, a lot of cheap full frame lenses actually cover the medium format sensor (Contax Zeiss, Minolta, etc.) so I've saved money not needing to buy a lot of new glass, just adapters. It's my best stills camera but obviously they will need to step up video over the next few years... And I am sure they will. Medium format sensors are already doing 4K and 100MP at the same time... quite an achievement!
The TechArt adapter for Leica M to E-mount is fantastic - AF is very fast, and through Leica M adapters it still works with a range of other manual focus lenses, like the Contax lenses. I'll be doing a blog post about it soon. I should try and get hold of the Canon autofocus adapter for Fuji X mount and the GFX version too... Although autofocus isn't the biggest strength of the GFX. It's ok with the internal focus GFX zoom but with the primes it can be quite bad.

Fuji's current approach is to give you FF via a crop mode on the GFX.
They are allegedly doing a (cheaper) rangefinder version of the GFX which if it has a similar crop mode would throw up some interesting possibilities for adapted lenses.
TechArt already has smart EF to GFX adapters so that will give you a form of FF on Fuji with a huge array of lenses. If TechArt adapted their Leica to E mount to GFX then that also opens up the possibility of AF for a huge array of manual glass on it as well.
This alleged rangefinder version could therefore be a Medium Format with Fujis own lenses (and adapted Hasselblad HC ones too), a Full Frame with Canon and Sigma Art et al lenses and a Leica M10 but with hybrid viewfinder and AF of manual M mount lenses.
For a supposed price of under £4K
That versatility could make it my desert island stills camera to be honest.

Yes but in 3 years smaller sensor cameras like the GHx will be for 4k 120p, 12bit, maybe even raw, and 960fps in 1080. Spec-wise I think they'll always be a step ahead.
I believe the smaller sensor/m43 will always win for adaptability, IBIS, slow motion, higher bit rates etc, not to mention the gap closing on low light performance - all it takes is an optical focal reducer like a speedbooster to get a kick arse full frame (ish) camera, or use natives and instantly get incredible telephoto reach without breaking your back. This is how I currently work and its a dream. I'm a huge advocate for the m43 system despite being a Canon 5D shooter all my life and now even with an a7iii.

karin reacted to BTM_Pix in My LUMIX Hardware Controller Is Complete
As someone less than politely pointed out on the other thread, I appear to have been a bit of a lazy arse in the almost 12 months since I tripped over and found the Cinelike d thing.
You may recall it happened because I was researching making a hardware controller and after several iterations, here it finally is.

And yes, it does look rather like a calculator doesn't it?
The different iterations (including an Android app at one point!) have been in pursuit of making something small, standalone, self powered, fast connecting, push buttons and with an integrated screen at a lowish cost and, well, here we are.
Here is the finished spec and features :
Compatible with all Panasonic Lumix cameras that can be controlled by wifi Integrated USB rechargeable battery Full colour screen 20 keys with 3 bank switch keys giving 60 direct switch operations of functions Control of Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Colour Profile, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction. Automatic unlocking of Cinelike D and Cinelike V on GX80/85, LX10/15 and TZ10 Control of manual focus in fine and coarse steps  Control of One Shot AF Control of Record Stop/Start Store and Recall 8 focus points 4 selectable transition speeds between focus points Store and Recall 8 setup presets (each consisting of Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Colour Profile, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction) Presets are stored in non-volatile memory so are available in any session. Boot time to camera connection and control under 2 seconds. Wifi control range tested to 20m. Optional accessories :
Interface module to support Nintendo Nunchuck controller for manual focus control (native lenses and adapted lenses with smart adapters) and zoom (integrated lens cameras and power zoom lenses only) Wireless interface module to sync remote record and stop on supported Tascam, Zoom and SoundDevices audio recorders.  The controller fits a regular cheap cellphone to threaded adapter holder so as well as being used handheld it can be mounted to anything you have a need for with the right attachment so could be on a cage or a gimbal or whatever.

I'm going to be doing some more testing of it in anger in the next couple of weeks and I'll put up a video of it in action then.
So, I have been a bit less lazy than first imagined
By the by, the controller has both wifi and bluetooth so it begs the question would anyone be interested in a version of it for the Pocket 4K ??

I think it's interesting that in all of the promo shots and in all of Grant's interviews the Pocket2 always has an Oly 24-40mm on it

I understand their choice from an aesthetic perspective it looks good on the camera...almost like a system.
But I have one pretty much always mounted on one of our Micros.
It's kind of a perfect "all around" lens for the new camera - a relative 25-83mm 2.8, it will allow for push AF and has great two stage manual focusing and it's the sharpest zoom I've shot with.

They're not getting away with it. Several videos and discussions about it. Fuji definitely F'ed up. H1 is sold as having superior AF. A firmware fix is bound to come quickly (or sales are going to hurt). I know I'm not be buying one until this is fixed.

I love fuji and am biased in their favour. I had my cash ready excited to preorder this camera, but I just can't do it. For me, these more consumer cameras are good for getting a good image quickly in scenarios where you don't get a second take and where using my cinema camera would be impractical. If you are going to do long set-up times and many takes, then a cinema camera is better for that type of work.
Those are my criteria, yours may be different, so my judgment is based only these factors: can it take a quick shot? does it have good iq?
For me, it has good ergonomics and ibis, both ticks, but it is missing one crucial factor, and that is good face detect autofocus. What I am hearing from the videos is that it works on occasion. Even if it was at the level of the a6500 I would be fine with that as the ibis implementation is very good. But it seems to me a step behind the a6500. I just don't know at this stage if I can rely on it to get the image. I may be proven wrong but this is a consideration for me.
The second issue I have is with the image quality. Don't get me wrong the colours are great - it's the other factors that have me miffed. Firstly, there appears to be a great degree of digital sharpness that makes the images look videoy. I note the diffusion they used in the professional japanese production to limit this effect. Moreover, the motion cadence is just off and it may have to do, like Andrew said, with the omission of the ALL-I codec. It doesn't look natural to me like for instance a canon or gh5.
So I have decided to pass in this instance and see what canon has in store with their new mirrorless which if the rumours are true shall be 4k, will have ibis and will have autofcus face detect - the holy trinity. And nice colour science that you won't need to grade too much with the crappy 8bit codec they will no doubt give you. I don't mind the eos-m mount as the ef lenses are easily adapted.

Seems like a great camera. For me personally a Fuji is a usable stills option in all scenarios I can think of. It rivals FF. Ive shot sports, portraits, doc, you name it with a X-Pro2 or X-T20.
So the stills department is in the bag. Not as a compromise but top notch imo.
If the intended usage of video is 50% or lower it is a great camera and I would probably love it. For something like 70% video I guess a GH5 would make more sense but anything higher than that and I rather have two cameras, one dedicated for video. But that's just me.

True! I also said that they have "decency"! Fuji is a well respected company with a lot of passionate people working there. I follow them closely and always read interviews and their opinions. They have the will, they just don't have the resources.
Unfortunately for Fuji, in this race there are other horses too, and no one will wait for them to reach 2018 specs, a couple of years later.
Edit: I would buy this instead of the a6500 any day. That's not even close in my opinion.

A Fuji "A6500" basically, but in a bigger body.
However it does have Fuji's colour science and ergonomics.
And the A6500 was already pretty cool.
Then there are the lenses - they're better as well.
I think it's not to be sniffed at... But it falls short of the GH5 and GH5S in terms of overall feature-set and codec. Should have had 10bit.

@Aussie Ash 4K/15m, 1920/20min, 120 or 100p 6minutes. Also I can not see a headphone jack on the camera. That means, like the previous top Fuji camera, the grip is a necessity for most video uses, adding size/weight. Also, the one battery will be problematic.
Of course I could be wrong, but this is what I make from that.
Sorry, but I can't resist to comment that this try is rather pathetic. Fuji is at least a couple of years behind all the rest. Every manufacturer will have a better video camera soon (or already have).

I don't own a Fujifilm camera (mainly because they don't offer dedicated video cameras at the moment), but I worked some days with a X-T2 and compared with my Sony and Nikon hybrid cameras. More than that, end of 2017 I've done some polls on German language Social Media sites to find out more about colour preferences of my audience. The results were for me - as a NON-Fuji-owner - quite astonishing:
About 64% of the 16-25 years old spectators say, thy prefer Fuji-Colors (not graded, out of the camera color science) by far more than Nikon, Sony or even Canon. Period.
The 25-40 years old German spectators prefer mostly more neutral / cool colors out of a Sony or Nikon. Then Fuji, and Canon is on last place (lol)...
The 50-65 years old spectators prefer with 58% the Fuji color science...
Plus exceptional build quality + a very good customer care and (repair) service (speaking for Germany) + a nice and affordable lens collection. Fujifilm is miles ahead from the crappy Sony hybrid playticky cameras image capturing devices - which I own and shoot (mainly because of their dedicated video cameras offerings and insane low light capabilities of their A7R / A7S xyz line).
Last but not least: It's a pleasure (for me) to shoot a X-T2. Unlike holding the Sony hybrid shit in my hands...But as I need their dedicated video devices and beeing in the Sony lens universe, I will have to keep shooting crappy Sony hybrids...

If we want to fantasize and speculate on the post appeared on the site mirrorlessrumors, we can say that it is very convincing, Samsung must develop new technologies to be always technologically advanced, even if these products should never go into production.
The construction of a prototype serves to test the capabilities of their products, this has nothing senseless and personally does not surprise me at all.
I agree that the marketing of the photo department of Samsung is totally wrong, communication with customers was very disappointing, but it is also true that the quality / price ratio of the NX1 and NX500 was the best ever, also it is to be appreciated that the Samsung It has never charged extra costs for major firmware updates like the professional DR color profile.
If tomorrow Samsung officially announced that it is building the NX2 I would be the happiest person in the world. I bought the NX1 in 2015, three years to replace a camera is a very reasonable time frame, I would think poor those who buy Sony and Panasonic, not even have time to unpack their new camera that after six months is already old !!
My humble opinion is that Samsung must continue to build cameras to be present in the photographic industry, of course Samsung knows that this involves the need to reorganize the work team, the technical staff must be numerically reduced and the work must be well organized to optimize expenses, Samsung has everything ready to make the leap in quality and move on to the professional video industry.
In conclusion, Samsung produces every type of electronic product, look at home you will certainly have at least three products with Samsung brand, so why close only the photographic department precluding a secure businness, having the necessary professional potential?

I wish they added 4K60, but yeah, probably not gonna happen. I also wish for 10bit, internally or externally. I'm shooting F-Log with the X-T2 and with 8bit it leaves some to be desired. And I'm not sure if it's just my X-T2 or a general issue, but the camera gets hot relatively fast when you use HDMI out. And thermal noise appears after a few minutes at ISO 6400 and above, which you won't see when you only record internally. Oh and it would be great to have waveforms or rgb parade in video mode. And adjustable zebras.

Lots of convincing detail in the rumors post. USB C with DisplayPort enabled for 4K video output is a good idea, for instance. The gyro shutter thing is interesting.
I have no idea if real or not but one thing that strikes me as strange is that the NX1 is was never based around one chip (like the Exynos) and instead had lots of different custom hardware, dealing with separate tasks, like AF tracking, video encoding, etc. So not sure if building a prototype around one chip even makes sense with NX1 architecture the way it is (or was).
Also to develop a brand new sensor for a prototype seems like an expensive thing to do if they have no intention on releasing it.
Would be amazing if Samsung made an NX2 as a tent-pole of some kind to say to the world - look what we can do in cameras, now buy our S9 for a taste of the same specs.

One thing I like about the X Pro 2 is you can just stay in stills mode, press a record button to reel off video, without having to switch to a fiddly movie mode on a fiddly dial.
The X-T2's mode dial is a nightmare and quite unnecessary.

^^^Agreed, being able to make image adjustments in cam makes a big difference with the xt2, which still has a better image than Sony's APS-c cams IMO, its just a little quirky to shoot video. We'll see what the XH1 brings in a couple months. I don't get why Fuji added 4k, but left out the ability to adjust sharpness and such, weird.

Rolling shutter is not great in 4k compared to 1080p, though I didn't notice it when I was playing with it on my gimbal until you asked the question and I tested specifically for it.  You won't want to do any whip pans in 4k on this camera.

Which overlays do you need? All the overlays I have on stay on (except for the photo specific ones). Let me know the ones you like and I can have a look.

You can't switch between the EVF/LCD during recording, and you still can't change ISO using the front dial. You can't change ISO at all as far as I can tell during recording. You can change the exposure compensation in Auto ISO mode with the front dial if you set the physical Exposure Compensation dial to C.

Yes, and it seems to be using the phase detect sensors during AF-C whilst recording video. It's not super smooth, but it doesn't hunt -- you're not going to get super smooth auto focus pulls a la C200, but I suspect it'll be good enough to use on a gimbal.

I've still not had heaps of time to test the video aspects, but from what I can see the 4K looks much better than what 1080p gave me previously, but I think there's been some improvements to the 1080p modes as well. Where previously everything looks over-sharpened and the skin looks like plastic, skin now looks more organic and real. It's still very sharp -- too sharp for my tastes -- but the colours are beautiful and the Auto ISO ramps up and down almost as smoothly as my Nikons, so I can definitely see me using it for gimbal work or personal stuff. I'm really looking forward to playing with the Acros simulation in video, I love it in stills and I think it could be really nice to shoot black and white with it.

Stills wise the new AF-C algorithms are brilliant, it locks and tracks faster than before. This and 4k alone would've sold me on an X-Pro3, I'm staggered they offered it as a free firmware upgrade! Plus the new tethering options mean one less reason to hang on to so many of my Nikon bodies.

But thank you Fuji for giving us this rare gift.
It is the first time in the camera industry that 4K has been added with a firmware update. Such a dramatic leap in quality from just firmware
Just shows they are playing us for idiots most of the time... as the 5D Mk III shows also!
