  1. Thinking about have some Fuji taste, with an XT-30; anybody have good stabilization samples with the 18-55 f/2.8-4 kit lens? (sorry for the off topic)

The first thing I did was buy a Vello grip for the GX85, it was a must for holding especially for my big hands.

I've got the Panasonic original one, but will get a Vello / JJC (they looks the same). The grip in the original one looks like a lot one, but you have to remove it to change the battery or the SD card.

  3. Sometimes I miss my GX7. Front grip is MILES better than the GX85/GX9 ones, larger and softer. AF/MF switch with a very good button on center for back-button AF.  And the more "rounder" design is much more attactive to me than the newer ones.

Only problem was the DISP button - it was easily pressed by the "base" of your thumb. a problem solved in the GX85 / GX9. And the shutter sound, was like a scissor closing - liked it but kind of loud.

    But I miss it.

Your Tokyo-Blade Runner short is still one of my favorite videos from the older times of large sensor camera craze. It is still making me wonder, if I should get a GH2.

Second that. The Blade Runner video made me crazy about the GH2, got one barely used at a good price...and with it started my love of photography and video.
Still have the GH2 here, failed to sell it when it was still valuable...now bought a cheap Viltrox 5 inch monitor to use as focus peaking viewer. :)

Most of the videos made it it are garbage, because I did not have good lenses at the time, heheheh. Interesting, some of the concerts stills that I've got with the GH2 now I think that are some of the best that I've taken - and GH2 arguably was not a good low light camera. The pictures from a Bruce Springsteen concert taken with a Can on FD 135mm f/2.5 are the most organic still that I've taken (and remember, no IBIS...).

Miss you covering cheap gear and extracting the best of it, Andrew. :)

Sony had a setback in the trial of theirs when Doctors mistakenly thought patients were getting sicker due to the green tint it gave their skin colour.

I've heard that the Sony drug could only be used in arctic countries because it overheats in 5 minutes at moderate temperatures.

And the the Panasonic one was very good to kill the virus, but only in stationary cells (the drug could not focus the virus in moving ones).

@EmanuelMan, last thing that I need to see is more things about Brazil, hehehe.

If americans think that Trump is crazy, our psychotic president is saying "hold my beer". Bipartisan wars here, at the expense of peoples lives. A beloved friend of mine (and a lot of other people) snapped and went crazy because of insane bot propaganda and fake news from both sides of the political spectrum.

If fact I'm fed up of this country, when the incoming world recession that will come in the next years pass, my plan (already was thinking about it before the virus) is to leave Brazil and raise my daughter in a less stupid country (and one that treat women at least with a minimum respect).

Portugal is the number one option, by the way. :) Not as much because of the same (or very similar :) ) language, but most because my wife have Portuguese citzenship and I fucking love Portugal.

Wow I never thought I'd learn something non camera related on this forum, especially as I go to Reddit everyday. I had no idea about this research lab and the other stuff. I just assumed someone fucked a wild animal and caught their flu.

I guess that fucking a bat is not the easiest task in the world. :)

I have just re-purposed my original Lidar prototype into a body worn device with a speaker that barks out "BACK OFF YOU BASTARD" when it detects someone breaking the recommended two metre safety perimeter.

Being confined to a small apartment, the novelty off this invention has worn very thin with my other half.

You can call the system, ahn...DFD is a good name, I guess.

    (Distance From Disease)

  9. Well, it always could be worse. Imagine if your president is suspect to have the virus, was recommended to quarantine, and suddenly steps down the presidential car, go to a crowd without mask or any protection and starts to hug people.

Oh, wait, it was what the piece of shit which is the Brazilian president has done yesterday.

Also, guess which country will come up with the vaccine first?  If history is to be our guide, it will be the USA...

Auto Focus. All the youtubers are consumed with auto focus performance. Every review is praising or dissing AF
for every new camera. Everyone has videos of people jumping in & out of frame and watching the focus change to this & that. Is it tracking?? Is it twitchy, is it slow, is it focusing on the wrong subject etc etc. and the stupid AI algorithms are driving us camera owners crazy if it doesn't quite perform right. The first few months I had a new mirrorless I would end up watching every shot for signs of AF error, I become sensitized to every background twitch & focus shift, I was alternately disappointed or elated depending on the AutoFocus results.

Finally during a brief period of sanity I turned off the AF and went totally manual focus. I planned what my shots were going to do AHEAD OF TIME and set the focus WITH THE FOCUS RING! I stopped watching the shots for AF and could pay attention to everything else.  No more focus wobbles, jumps, twitches & tracking errors, just … calm.  Then I had a shot where two people were talking and one suddenly walked past the camera left while still talking. I followed him a ways and then panned back. Hey, he went out of focus! The other person said a few words and the shot ended. Later I watched this shot and sure enough he moved out of focus. But, it didn’t bother me. I realized if the focus had tried to follow him and then jump back to the other person it would have been quite distracting to me, but having a subject naturally move out of focus as he moved through the scene made me realize that happens in the movies all the time and no-one cares.
So relax, turn off that AF.  Let the background trees stay out of focus when Camera Conspiracies jumps out of the shot. Manual Focus rules.

Yes, proper manual focus rules, and is much more reliable than AF. No wonders focus pullers are very regarded professionals in movie business.

But is not so easy when using a gimbal for action shots, especially if you are a one man operation. In this case, good AF is very desirable.

    Different situations, different needs.

I'm too busy obsessing over stats to build even a tin foil beret at the moment let alone the full hat.

Thus far I'm comforting myself with "You're in a city with 14 million people and they take 8.5 million subway rides per day and they only have 60 cases".

Doesn't stop me convincing myself I'm nailed on to be number 61 of course.

Lots of people will be infected and cure themselves thinking it is a common flu. Governments are only testing people that came from the areas with most cases, and the people that had contact with them.

But probably along the way these people infected people that were just wandering near them, and could be not directly linked to the infected ones.

Only when these people escalate the symptoms and needed special care they will be confirmed cases. Most of the infected will never know.

  13. There are a lot of comparisons about Flu and Covid-19; yeah, there are much more deaths in a year coused by the common flu. But remember that common flu have vaccines, it is a well known disease, have easy treatment and, more important, is circulating around for years and most of the people already have antibodies for it.

This is the fear with coronavirus: most of the people does not have any antibody to it, nor it have a vaccine, and it have a VERY fast spread rate. And since more countries are starting to have it spread, more likely your country will have it soon or later - and yes, probably every country will get it.

Here in Brazil was an good example: when only people coming from China were being monitored for coronavirus, we had no confirmed cases - because our economy sucks and not a lot of business people here are in China trading. :) But since the Italian outbreak (a country that Brazilian visits a lot, for tourism and family ties), we had 2 confirmed and more then 200 suspicious cases. And it tends to grow - probably there are people with the virus in the 14 days incubation period coming from other countries that the outbreak was not still detected.

I think that the real tragedy will be when the virus reachs the African continent. Very little health  / sanitary resources there, and with the fast spread rate of the virus, probably will be a REAL epidemic there. :(

Awesome.  Yeah, I’ve started shopping around for the best Android phone for video.  I can’t find many video examples testing this particular feature, but the couple I found were very convincing.  I’m seriously wondering if I might be able to transition to phones.

Now I’m just wondering which versions of Android support this API version and feature.  The one tricky thing with Androids is they all run their own special OS flavors.  So I think it would true that some phones can’t be upgraded?

The problem is not really the Android version, but how much of the Camera 2 API the manufacturer exposes.

Just bought a Galaxy S9, and 4k60 is not available because of Samsung's implementation of the API. They found a way to circunvent it in the Exynos versions, but in the Snapdragon ones (like mine) is not possible. Every manufacturer have some kind of issues in its implementation.

Better look at the Filmic's Pro blog, and in forums about Filmic Pro to know how it works with each phone. Or, if you live in a country that have return policies, get the phone and try.

  15. The virus will affect all camera companies. Even when produced in Japan, there are parts made in China, which will be in short supply soon (LG cellphone factories here in Brazil were already shutdown due to lack of parts).

But this discussion made me curious about a thing: how much DRAM each camera has inside? Ok, the faster one have more due to buffering, but I'm curious about the average quantity.

  16. But at the same time, in the Specs of the page, says:

"Movie quality is set to YCbCr 4:2:2 (8 bit), frame rate follows movie setting (24p, 30p and 60p settings are not recommended.), and sound will be recorded."

Marketing / specs guys in Olympus are probably drunk or on drugs. No trusty info.
