I think it would be wise to wait and see as translations by google, especially of this length, are almost always flawed. I was hoping that a bilingual Japanese/English speaker could enlighten us on what exactly it says.
Again, I find no problem with JIP using OMD/Zuiko or even Olympus for synergy of JIP's current businesses as that would be very normal. Olympus branded (anything related to imaging and audio) would be in this category.
If JIP "only" released a E-M1 III with 10-bit, better log, maybe some more monitoring tools, and better slow-mo, they'd have a hit on their hands. Actually, I'm fairly sure these things could happen even WITHOUT a new body, just wit firmware updates of the E-M1 II or III. Just a few talented engineers could turn this around.
Think of what already exists with MFT:
1. over 95 lenses at every price-point to choose from
2. excellent, robust bodies of all sizes and shapes
3. a wonderful used market worldwide
4. "good enough" quality for most pro and hobbyist work, proven over and over by content produced
5. for Olympus specifically, they've already got decent PDAF, something that other MFT manufacturers have not undertaken
6. did I mention over 95 lenses to choose from RIGHT NOW, not on some lens map or "maybes", especially in a shrinking market? Sorry, had to mention it twice as this is incomparable with ALL other mirrorless cameras. IMO, more important than sensor-size or the marginal quality benefits with other systems.
Sadly, their biggest asset might be one reason why JIP or Panasonic won't do well. With those 95 lenses at all price levels, there might not have the same revenue stream possibilities. My fear is that they won't turn a profit on bodies alone- no matter the cost; so; it will all be about getting production costs down on high-quality bodies, something that doesn't always mix together.
No, I'm not an analyst in the industry... just a guy who has an opinion to share with some business and company knowledge and likes video and photography.
The problem is that the common thinking now is:
- "I need the full frame look - DOF so thin that only the eyelashes are in focus, will move to medium format"
- "I need to shoot ISO 102500"
- "Smaller sensors are garbage" -

The main problem I see sigma having is push back and lockout from manufactures mount protocols because they feel threatened by it. I feel like this is the main reason they haven’t done it.
Or maybe because a person would only buy one lens for the foresseable future, instead of buy a new one when they change systems?
Love Sigma, but let's not forget that they are a business, and needs to sell products. -

I'm offloading all the m4/3 equipment that I don't use constantly. Worst case, I will have a minimum kit to use for some years until the market consolidates.

Japanese translations are complicated. A lot of people are supposing that "video" and "business" means surveillance cameras.
Worth read the full article, I thought that the tone was not so rosy. -

I am a hybrid shooter.
I currently have one body set for video and another body set for stills.
I would like at a flick of a switch to alternate between two identical bodies with different lenses.
Slightly out of thread, but since I'm looking at Fuji: how this works - or not - with the XT-3? How many steps are needed to switch "functions"?

Roger put a very detailed disassembly on LensRentals right now.

I bet there are some Panasonic G85/G80 owners who don't even realize 4K on it has a small subtle crop! Because as @fuzzynormal said, it is WYSIWYG.
It is even sadder with the GX9 / G90, with the additional crop. Have a GX9 and, except fot the extra crop, is a much better camera than the GX85 - speed, color, tilting EVF (amazing for tripod work), even the AF is much better (and useful in video in some scenarios).

I forgot where I got my dummy battery that works on both my E-M10 III and my E-PL6. However, here is one listing on the USA Amazon.
You can also get the dummy battery with power adapters for USB batteries or you can attached the linked dummy battery to an AC power adapter that outputs 7v-8V. Of course, you could just use inexpensive Sony NP-F batteries (nominal voltage 7.4V), and choose one with a large capacity.
The nominal voltage of most consumer/pro-sumer cameras is 7.4V, but many such cameras have a built-in voltage regulator that accepts a range higher and lower than the nominal voltage. However, I always try to supply the nominal 7.4 volts into the camera, so that the camera's internal voltage regulator doesn't have to do a lot of work, possibly heating up and causing sensor noise.
But the one in the link is for the E-M5 / E-M1 line, no? The battery is larger than E-m10's.

Bad news if true.
https://www.43rumors.com/panasonic-might-change-their-mind-and-do-aps-c-l-mount-cameras-afterall/
But Panasonic still treats their "partners" as competitors as they did with Olympus? Like DFD only working with Panasonic lenses (I remember that in the start of the L mount there was a lot of incompatibilities)?
If the attitude inside the L mount Alliance will be like inside the MFT world, the mount will not last. -

Oh yeah Canon are all forgiven now!
Not.
Indeed.
Great work from all the guys here, but for a professional shooting, I guess it still not acceptable to need to roll the camera until the first "overheating" warning to make the bypass procedure (and having files with +1 day in the metadata - it would be a media management caos with the files) to finally have a camera with (somewhat) safe record times.
How would be if that first run is the acting of a lifetime from the actor that you are shooting and...fake overheating signal?
Good workaraound for the people that bought the camera and could not return anymore the camera. But if I was a professional, would still finding it not acceptable.
Canon still needs to proper address this. -
Dunno if PetaPixel is banner here also, but they have an article for a infrared conversion company in New Jersey that tore down a R6 and found a real time chip controller that is attached to the internal battery (they credited EOSHD there). Not much new info, but an interesting investigation path.

Would love to see more compact FF lenses like the 45 f/2.8. Like a 24-105 f4 zoom more compact than the current ones.

I think many are waiting for Fuji to expand their IBIS cameras, odd they haven't given how many variations they have under the XT/XH/Xpro premium lines.
Chris
Yep, I wish IBIS in their lower lines, but do not expect it soon (or at it all).

Fuji can't seem to get theirs sorted either, its hot garbage with the way the image moves. Sony's gyro data post stabilization looks amazing from the samples I've seen. IMO that's why the a7s3 only shows modest improvements over other current Sony bodies, they're focusing on refining the new gyro stabilization system.
Yeah, Fuji could improve too.
Gyro data looks really useful, but probably will crop the image somewhat in post, no? -

@Geoff CB are we going to need a bigger boat? 😀
I’ve said it before but it’s always worth repeating and that is I have no brand loyalty as such but instead more of a commitment as it were to companies that produce what I need and keep on doing so.
Fuji for 7-8 years have earned my commitment and my least favoured brand has been Sony...but there comes a point when it’s hard to argue against capability as a total package.
My doubt with Sony is: everyone have figured out good IBIS (not Olympus class, but good) except Sony.
Could it be really as some say - the mount is limiting it? -

XT-40 seems most likely, that model always follows the flagship XT by 6-8 months or so. Its about time to give it an update too with a better EVF and some body refinements.
Chris
Bring me a XT-40 with IBIS and more 4k record time (20 mins ok for me) and Fuji will gain a user.

Press release already leaked. looking good.

I just wish a X-E4 with IBIS. Never will happen, though.

Of course it is clickbait. As I said, I suspect that the "future brand" was already chosen.
And I understand the concerns for the general public being fooled. From my part, I just see videos from a lot of people, much of those not exactly trustworthy (but never see Toneh or Polin, they are just annoying), because sometimes in the reviews they show some point that others did not cover (even found one time or another useful info coming from the master of bullshit, Mr. Ken Rockwell).
Buying decision making should NEVER be done with one opinion, and specially without knowing the faults of the desired product - because ALWAYS have more than one problem.
(that's why I never bought anything on pre-order, or even in the first months - wait for the weaknesses and the inevitable price drop after some months) -

"・If you set 4K 60p/30p/24p 10bit, you can record a movie for about 30 minutes, and under the recommended environment, you can resume recording immediately. With 4K 30p/24p 8bit and FHD settings, you can record without time limit (with temperature limit) and support long-time uncut shooting."
Here we go again... (albeit Panasonic is probably the best company regarding to thermals) -

I have just seen Matt Granger selling all his old gear but not buying anything, just awating which systems offers most when we can really word again.
Like Matt, but the skeptical in me is tingling saying that the choice was already probably made... (my guess: Canon).
And the Camera Conspiracies's guy cameo in the video is fucking HILARIOUS. 🙂 -
Very good teardown of the GFX100 by Roger: https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2020/08/the-fujifilm-gfx-100-vs-salt-water-teardown/
Bullet points for me:
- The weather sealing is not so good - be careful with water;
- The internal structure of the camera is tank-like (specially in the sensor area);
- LOOK HOW IT IS DONE, CANON - you take the back plate of the camera off, HUGE heatsink attached to the back plate, processor with thermal pad in direct contact with the processor.

Ouch. If one of these crashes to the ground, at least one people will be dead.
