Dumb luck while looking for some other information.

Can't find one for the Olympus but here is a thread about fixing the ibis on the EP-L1 (same internals I believe regarding the sensor etc)

    https://www.mu-43.com/threads/e-pl1-ibis-problem-fixed-finally.59751/

Yeah, this thread was my inspiration to try to fix mine (first will try to "realign" the sensor without opening.

And these various repair guides for it should put you on the right track regarding opening it up.

    Will take a look. Thanks!

Do you think say an Olympus EM1 even might be able to eliminate having to use a Gimbal? They are Really good IBIS wise with the right Olympus lenses on them. Man I Hate using a Gimbal, let along carrying one around.

You can buy a EM1 cheaper than a G85. Crazy good Photo camera, maybe not so hot on the video side. The mk II is a lot better on the video side.

Did not have an E-M1, but already had a E-M5 MK II. Stationary, gimbal is not needed at all; but for panning shots and walking, gimbals are very useful. And like rangefinder style cameras when travelling / street - people don't bother with them, the SLR format of the E-M1 is much more intimidating. And heavier. :)

Very tempted for the new Crane-M, because of the wifi integration - very pratical to start / stop recording using the gimbal handle. Only if the payload was around 1 kg... (and could connect to Olympus cameras too).

And I'd argue that for many amateurs then MFT is an excellent choice to consider, as most people don't want to carry around a whole backpack of photography gear!

    Exactly my case.

In my last vacation trip, the gear was:

    - 2 cameras: a GX85 (me) and an LX100 (my girlfriend);

    - Lenses: Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 (a little gem), Panasonic 45-175mm f/4-5.6 (very underrated lens), Panasonic 42,5mm f/1.7 and a Rokinon 12mm f/2.0;

    - Supports: a Crane-M gimbal and a MeFoto RoadTrip tripod.

All the camera / lenses could fit in a messnger bag, the tripod attached to it, and the gimbal on hand. Or everything in a Lowepro Fastpack 200 backpack.

Did not miss any more equipment.

  4. @BTM_Pix being genius again. I think that there must be a voodoo doll of him in Panasonic's engineering headquarters: "First this sucker made us to release Cinelike-D for the GX9, now will put pressure on us in the GH6's focus system". Watch for subtle localize pains, like needle stings. :)

In fact I'm amazed the the focus protocol in BLE could be so precise - using wi-fi in the Panasonic cameras, the focus ajustments always loooked very crude (or the Blackmagic's impementation have finer tuning?).

    Two doubts:

    - It will work as a single point AF system, no? How do you know where is the focus point, always center? (in this case, how you calibrate it to be exactly in the center of the frame?)
    - I remember the case of a camera that had it sensor burned by a LiDAR sensor in a autonomous car prototype (the LiDAR - at least the car one - uses lasers beams, which trashed the sensor). The LiDAR that you are using could have this problem, or the unit is not powerful enough to burn a camera sensor?
(If you don't know, I think that you could test it against a camera. Please invite Northrup and his Nikons for the test :))

  5. I know that the GX9 is not very popular here, but I've got one in a very good price; but discovered a very strange problem with the rear dial press behaviour that looks like a firmware bug, and want to confirm it if someone have the same camera.

Since the beginning (at least since the GH2, the 1st Panasonic that I've had - after that was a GX7 and GX85), when using adapted or m4/3 lenses without contacts, like the Rokinons, when you press the rear dial, the enlarged view was activated in the LCD/EVF, which was very convenient to help focusing. But when first trying the GX9, pressing the rear dial with my Rokinon 12mm have no effect at all.

When looking more closely, I've discovered that in S,M or video modes, pressing the back dial have the previous known behaviour: the enlarged view is engaged. But in the A ou P modes, nothing happens. Did a factory reset, same thing.

Anyone have this camera and can confirm this? And someone knows how to report a firmware bug to Panasonic?

  6. In fact, I loved the completely outside of the box thinking of this camera, like the Z-Cams: the body only contains the basics, and you choose how to configure the grips and accessories. Ok, Z-Cam and Blackmagic have small cameras like this, but it is a first for a hybrid (although we have to see the stills performance).

You want a very small camera for a jacket pocket? Done. Need a bigger grip, to use with heavier lenses? There will be 2 available. And with no upper cameras to protect, looks like they go berserk with the specs.

And last, the thing is DAMN PRETTY, reminded me the Agfa Optima Sensor.

The biggest mystery of all is how you got Gunpowder to sit still and look into the camera for 10 minutes :)

Just put a Tony Northrup video, any living being looks like a deer in the headlights trying to understand it.

But not for more than 30 seconds - it is animal cruelty, brain damages could occur.

X-T30 with 18-55mm F2.8-4 would get my vote. Stabilisation works well. Image is perfect. Size is small. Feature packed. Not mega expensive. Nothing else gets close for the size and price.

If Fuji had implemented IBIS in the XT3 / XT30, probably would sell all my m43 gear and jumped to them. Have to see how the OIS in their lenses works in handheld, though. What was your impressions?

But for me the dealbreaker in the Xt30 was the 10/15 minutes movie limit. I don't shoot interviews or documentary, but like to record live concerts, and some songs lasts more than 10 minutes (was an issue when the LX100 was my first 4k camera). 30 or even 20 minutes would be perfect - hope that when the XT-3 / XT-30 sales slows down Fuji could unlock it with a firmware update.

Olympus E-M10 III is newer and does it all even better!

That would get my vote as well as the X-T30 although the Fuji is more advanced and feature packed, with larger sensor and much better AF and slow-mo 120fps

Have both the GX85 and the E-M10 III, still have to make a comparison. But for stills, the E-M10 III is fucking amazing, best jpg colors that I've ever seeing in a m43 camera (and VERY different from most of the other Olympuses, there is something different there). No crop in 4k is great in the E-m10 III too, and the EVF is VERY good, could get critical focus only with enlarged view, no peaking needed.
But the GX85 with the Cinelike-D unlocked (eternal thanks to @BTM_Pix) with Leeming Lut applied have very good colors.
The XT-30 EVF is even smaller than the GX85 one, is that correct?

My friend has the 10iii and loves it. It definitely can have a cinematic image.

I believe a lot of the other, older, Olympus cameras use Rec601 instead of Rec709 but I still think the E-M5 Mark II is an underrated camera and would happily shoot with it. The IBIS on it is insane.

Good to know, that’s definitelt worth the little extra for the name brand. I’ve never used the cameras side by side, but I’ve heard the IQ is a little bit better with the Micro... have you noticed that?

Had one E-M5 MK II, but when shooting concerts it was my stills camera. Once tried with the 1.x firmware, and did not like the footage. But prior to return it to Olympus (the authorized service here literally destroyed the camera trying to fix a...bad EVF sensor), made a quick test with the firmware that improved the video modes and it was MUCH better.
But the E-M10 MK III is even better.

  10. Can't say it is a cinematic image (is a very personal taste concept), but the E-M10 MK III have a VERY different color science from all the other Olympus cameras (the E-M1 MK II could have the same colors, since the E-M10 III uses the same chipset). Noted it after shooting some stills of my daughter - best skintones that I've saw in JPG from m4/3 (and this is my 7th m4/3 body), destroyed the ones on my Fuji X100S. Much warmer tones, looks a lot like Canon colors.

Then I've gone to DPReview and Imaging Resource, used their test comparison tools, and noted the same - warmer tones than all the Panasonics, and different from a lot of other Olympus cameras (Pen F, E-M5 II, E-M1 MK I, previous E-M10 versions). There is something different in that little beast.

If Oly did not had cripple their firmware (a lot for stills, a little for video), I could say that it is the hidden gem of the current Oly bodies.

I can see some serious retaliation coming from China in the form of a hit on Apple and Microsoft.

Say goodbye to your iPhones and Surface devices, Americans.

They could hurt enterprises, but China don't have much more margin to manouver. They already taxed some American goods, but they are on the limit of their trade surplus.

The Orange Dumbass knows that, that's why they are raising the stakes.

  12. I've mentioned in some places (even commenting in one post here in EOSHD, I think) that my dream MFT camera would be one with the GH5s sensor with options to turn on or off the Quad-Bayer (like these 40-48mp smartphones are doing). You would have 40mp stills option to work with good light, 10mp to work with low light, and maybe (don't know if it is possible because of the Quad Bayer arrangement) a 20mp with some kind of interpolation. And for video, the excellent 4k of the GH5s / BMPCC 4k.

Put is on a camera with IBIS, and the deal is done. Maybe is the plan for the GH6. And a GX10 like this (even with a 30min 4l record limit) would sell like hotcakes.
