  1. Sadly the FZ2500 is not constant f2.8! :-( :-/ Is one of the first things I looked to check.
  2. I was excited to see a new 12-60mm lens as it could be the perfect run and gun lens (the MFT equivalent of a 24-120mm), but then I saw the f stop..... f3.5-5.6! That sucks. Wanted *at least* constant f4
  3. http://nokishita-camera.blogspot.ru/2016/09/dmc-g80.html hmmm... still no mention of 422! Darn

    New Camera advice

Good! As it means it is going for very cheap prices lately. Plus while the D750 mk2 might be released in a few months time, it also... might not be released in the next two years!! It is hard to know for sure. It is the best DX camera on the planet for stills, and does good video just not up to the spec sheet of the a7S mk2 etc
  5. Yeah screw this talk of making another BMPCC v2.0, just put the BMPCC on another $500 sale again! :-D
  6. If Yi does to Panasonic what Kinefinity is doing to RED (or heck, Yi is doing to GoPro!) then we've got very exciting times ahead indeed! :D
  7. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PMW-F5-with-2x128gb-sxs-nikon-mount-and-PL-mount-/122061521942 Holy crap, a Sony F5 has fallen to extremely outrageously low prices!!! :-o :-o :-o Man, wish I had 10 grand spare... :-o :-o :-o So yeah, if a person could score a deal like that then they should go for it over a Canon C500 I reckon.
  8. THIS! x1000 this. I feel rather than a BMPCC v2.0 (unlikely!) we will instead see a new camera which overlaps with the BMPCC (like the BMMCC does) but more importantly fills in another different little niche that BMD hasn't done yet. (such as a dedicated gimbal camera? Like has been possibly rumoured)
  9. Meh, you're debating over little tiny specifics now (aside from the SD/CF point, which fair enough was my mistake, and I immediately admitted to. Shit happens, I'm only human). Otherwise, it doesn't change my overall conclusion and recommendation here. That 5Dmk3 is the main Canon with considering for ML rain, others (specifically 50D / 7D / 5D mk2) are just worth considering if you get it at a very sharp price (due to issues they've got vs 5Dmk3 / BMMCC, such as the 7D's aliasing and not so great lowlight). With BMMCC being the main one worth considering after (or even before) the 5Dmk3 (and of course BMPCC / BMCC MFT also being worthy mentions). So in the end.... the conclusion is the same.
  10. It is "no budget" in quotation marks, which means in effect some kinda of very ultra low budget.
  11. Sell it and buy a Nikon D7200, a vastly better idea than going with any Canon APS-C DSLR.
  12. I already addressed that. It would take longer R&D, and lack the same degree of widespread support out of the gate as MFT has.
  13. To get the most out of the C500 you need the exact same external set up! And the FS5 form factor is even better when starting out.
  14. haha, that was AWESOME! Skip forward 6 minutes to hear Canon tell you not to buy their C100 mk1 / C100 mk2 / C300 mk1
  15. And the BMCC was announced in 2012, so it might be argued the cycle lengths are doubling... ?? I keep on thinking BMD might skip a NAB so they catch their breath, sort out 100% their existing cameras, and make sure their next cameras are 100% prepared for NAB the year after. But each year they surprise us and release something else new! Maybe next year they'll finally pause and not release anything?
  16. Be very careful about mixing up imagery created by the camera vs by the person / lighting / grading / set design / etc. As when you look at imagery made when the C500 came out it would almost all be made by near top level pros. While the FS5 is more enthusiastically taken up by many newbie pros / indy film types, who at each level of the production have nowhere near the same level as what is done with the C500. So how much of that final "cinematic look" comes from the camera as you think vs coming from literally everything else?
  17. In your advocacy of E mount and EF-M mount you completely missed the big point: IT IS NOT EVEN AN OPTION. As they're closed off to everyone except Sony and Canon respectively to make cameras for it. And bringing up C mount is a negative point in support of E mount vs MFT when very very few C mount give complete coverage for MFT and many many less give coverage for E mount. And using native mount lenses has been a bonus point for JVC LS300 buyers. But if a person doesn't want to do that, that is fine too! It is about having the choice, and having more options. Any casual nerd (let alone an academic!) should know this basic sort of stuff already without a need to google. (I do, as any bittorrent enthusiast would of course also know. Just to give one example)
  18. No contest, get the G7 over the GH3. I'd even prefer the G6 in most cases over a GH3, and in fact that is what I did.... I purchased a G6 rather than a GH3.

    Photokina

Normal zoom and/or cinema zoom 18-70 f/2.8 would nice too. f2.8 basically means it would be about T3 And while 18mm wide end would be even nicer, I'd rather the cine zoom is just dirt dirt cheap from Samyang! :D ;-) Thus I said "20mm", as kinda is the "minimum" I'd want to work with (though even if it was 24mm I'd probably still seriously consider it, as I after all use my 24-70mm f2.8 on my Sony F3 nearly as often as I use my Sigma 18-35mm f1.8)

    Photokina

Harass Nikon for news about the KeyMission 360 (and harass Nikon about **FINALLY** making a cinema range?!). See if Kinefinity is there?! See how far along the Terra 5K is ticking along. Pop into Aputure to prompt them about when is their Aputure D3 microphone coming. Find out pricing of the Sigma Cine lenses? Encourage Samyang/Rokinon to make a zoom! (an affordable S35 20-85mm T3 would be awesome!!)
  21. Even though it is a story without dialogue, the soundscape is done really well!
  22. Depends on what you're looking for and what you want. You could for instance get a Sony FS5 for less (which will also give you 4K raw with the Odyssey, & once stripped down would be a far nicer casual run & gun camera). An URSA Mini 4.6K or Kinefinity Terra 5K is also cheaper. So yes, the Canon C500 has had a big price drop, and almost kinda sort of is creeping into entering the start of the "ok good value" category, but there are still quite a lot of other good options out there in that price range and cheaper if you're wanting a 4K raw camera.
  23. BMMCC and BMCC is not the same thing.
  24. Yes! Now who wants to buy my soul so that I can afford a few 120D lights?
