  1. Better than using a commonplace Zoom H1 (or even worse a bulky Tascam DR100 or similar), which is what their target market is, all the many wedding videographers and other low budget shoots who use a Zoom H1 with a lav to get audio. But using wireless and monitoring it will be so much better.
  2. Oh hey welcome, another "new" Sony F3 owner! :D
  3. You could also consider HitFilm as a cheap one of payment, or an older copy of Sony Vegas Pro which are dirt dirt cheap. Either would be better than the using the restricted newbie orientated Premiere Elements.
  4. Nikon is not just better for photos, but if you look a bit deeper into it (such as the YT vid I shared) then you'll realise it is the best choice for video from a DSLR as well.
  5. You can get a half decent wireless kit for dirt cheap now: https://***URL not allowed***/review-saramonic-uwmic10-dual-channel-wireless-mic-system/ Otherwise, just buy a cheap Aspen lav mic for now.
  6. Got to remember you're talking about the absolute cheapest Nikon DSLR, you list a set of weaknesses for Canon's equivalent and it will be even worse.
  7. Ha! No. That is all down in Wellington, while Auckland has the tv production scene. I'm not at quite that level yet, soon!
  8. It mystifies me all these people considering Canon, if you do a 50/50 mix of stills/video and you want great internal colors then get yourself a Nikon D750. It performs really really well: And you get a much better stills camera too than a Canon 5Dmk3! Or if you'd like 4K get a Nikon D500, which gives you near Nikon D5 stills performance, all at a small portion of the price of a Canon 5Dmk4. And I bet Nikon will bring 4K to their affordable lower level cameras before Canon does.

Having mic & headphone jack is still worthwhile for those ultra lowbudget or ultra fast turnaround jobs, or even just simply so you can stick a little shotgun mic on the camera and get better scratch audio for syncing than use the camera's own microphone.
  10. I'm curious too, did they have this plan before they even launched the crowdfunding campaign??
  11. Evil? Or Evil genius? http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/directors-crowdfund-78000-for-a-film-spend-it-on-champagne-and-limos-a7336836.html
  12. I recommend dvxuser as better and more diverse source of info FS5: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?219-PMW-Cameras-(-amp-temp-FS7) And yes it has had firmware updates.
  13. Same... I follow news of the F8 quite closely, as I hang out on all the main pro sound forums (taperssection, jwsoundgroup, gearsultz, etc) and both the Zoom F8 Facebook groups, yet I don't recall noting down this deal breaker for myself.
  14. If you don't need the extra inputs then the DR60D is easily a better design as a OPC boom op than a Tascam DR70D (I've used both, owned a DR60D: http://ironfilm.co.nz/firmware-update-for-tascam-dr-60d-mk1-fixes-recording-interruptions-when-running-on-external-usb-power-packs/ and used a DR70D on the feature film "Vagabond"). I'd recommend sticking with it. If you want to upgrade then the main choices (in order of increasing costs) are: (secondhand) Tascam DR680 mk1/ mk2 (I picked up one for just under US$300, including a Satchler bag! Using it now paired with my Sound Devices 552) Zoom F4 Zoom F8 Sound Devices 633

Very interesting!!! That points to the GH5 sensor being a little bit wider than 2x crop? (with a multi aspect ratio sensor) But I assumed in anamorphic mode it wouldn't be 16:9 (and thus wider), but instead 4:3
  16. It is generally more just hobbyists who have the time and interest to make video tests to share online with others like themselves. Plus Kinefinity is focused on first meeting local demand, will take longer before many people in the western world get and use their newest cameras. Yeah if you need a camera ASAP then get an URSA Mini 4.6K / Sony FS5, otherwise be patient and see what happens with the Kinefinity Terra 5K
  17. Love to know how that turns out as well As I'm thinking of that for my F3 perhaps. See how it performs on looooong takes in summer?

Thank you again EspenB! I blogged it here: http://ironfilm.co.nz/confirmed-confidential-panasonic-gh5-prototype-exists-and-is-being-tested-by-users-outside-of-panasonic/
  20. Is YT user "orange42" you? As I recognise that footage as being in New Zealand! :-D Local to where I am.

There is already a "GH4 for drones": https://yuneec.com/en_US/products/tornado/tornado-cgo4/overview.html But seems like now Panasonic is going to make their own.

Full size HDMI is not that big, it can certainly be done. And mini XLR is *tiny*, that could be added too, but I highly doubt it.
  23. Maybe it was about the original Xiaomi Yi action camera ?
