    Love this "The Hardest Button to Button" music video! I'm guessing there was no compositing done? As that would be the way you'd do it today. As I imagined you needed a **LOT** of extra gear for props!! And compositing that nowadays would massively reduce down how much you'd need.

  7. The difference between a 3 to 7 minute short film and an 80 minute feature is **HUGE** in terms of the amount of work it takes to get finished. However I do agree about those 20 to 40 minute "shorts" some people make, I find it strange they didn't just go all out and make a feature film instead.
  8. If you're just considering the 1080 straight out of the camera then you'd be very very hard pressed to see any noticeable difference between the BMCC and BMPCC. And the BMMCC is basically a BMPCC V2.0 (as the BMMCC has better battery life, full size HDMI, smaller overall size, and slow motion 60fps). Samsung NX1 is a different niche, as it is a 4K hybrid camera.

  10. THIS. Even if you have $10K to spend (as even just offering people a hundred bucks a day can make a huge difference), then that is no good if you don't know the right people so you can spend your very limited budget wisely.
  11. Having FF lenses shouldn't stop you from considering a D500, just buy a Tokina 11-20mm f2.8 and carry on as normal (aside from a small minor mental readjustment in FoV for each lens).
  12. The BMCC's smaller than normal sensor is a very poor pairing with the EF mount, makes a billion times more sense with the MFT mount. The BMCC (vs the BMMCC, or BMPCC) comes at a greater cost for the body and a much more bulky weight, in return you only get a small increase in resolution (and only applies if shooting in raw, no difference at all if shooting in ProRes!) and a slightly larger sensor (but no real effective difference at all if using a Metabones on both).
  13. Nope none, I can't compare it with any high end expensive boom poles as haven't used them, but I am very happy with my Miloboo boom pole. I use it all the time, used it again yesterday!

  16. Yes I've read about lots of Canon still shooters who made the switch to Nikon because of the D750! Especially popular with many working wedding photographers.

If 1080 is good enough, and you lean more towards stills than video, then Nikon D750 is a great choice as an awesome stills camera (thrashes the 5Dmk3 in the stills department) which is also an excellent video DSLR. If 4K is an essential requirement, then check out the Nikon D500. A better stills camera too in every way!   18. That is because Panasonic/Sony/Samsung are all massively trailing behind the duopoly already from the word go, thus they can double their market share and still be a long way behind. Thus pointing that out doesn't really prove anything. As Canikon is not maintaining their lead at all by excluding these things, but by their inertia of their uses, their brand name, their history, retail presence, and marketing. Of course it is, never seen Magic Lantern before? ;-) Errr.... have you never heard of the Nikon KeyMission? Well over half a year late. As I explained before, massive DSLR sales will drive Cinema line up sales, and the Cinema cameras will in turn encourage more sales of DSLRs.
  19. Yeah having the snappier menus in the FS5 is already a step in the right direction from the FS7, hopefully will they will continue that on. As the current FS7 menus are a drag in how sluggish they can be.
  20. Indeed, I've been wanting one of these APS-C compacts for *aaaaggggeeesssss*! I *almost* purchased the Nikon Coolpix A when it went on the massive special, but didn't... other priorities! As really any compact is just going to be a luxury toy for me, and not a tool. One day when I can spare the cash I will. Probably once the older ones secondhand drop down to around US$200ish

Yeah just do the OPPOSITE of the Nikon DF and they'd have a winner on their hands! ;-) ha, well at least for many people on this forum But enough joking around, I agree with your point, the Nikon DF targets an extremely small niche, so why can't Nikon target the bigger niche of filmmakers? Canon sells a shit load of Canon 70D / 80D / etc cameras to bloggers because they know the "pros" uses 5Dmk3 / C100 / C300 so that attitude of choosing and recommending Canon filters down to the lower ranks. It works both ways, the DSLR users can graduate up to buying Cinema series cameras, and the high profile / prestige of the Cinema cameras can sell their DSLRs to filmmakers. According to your argument Canon should never have released a C300 or C100?!?! Surely not. Heck, by your logic Nikon should never release a D800/DF/D500/D5/etc because no one at your work ever needs to print ultra high resolution photos, or shoot BIF, or sports seriously, etc Nope, that doesn't make sense. Nikon has two main paths: target the mainstream (such as with compact point and shoot cameras, but that ship has looooong since sailed! Or smartphones, which is too far outside their core competency and has too much competition) or target high value niches (such as a C100/C300 or FS5/FS7 competitor).
  24. Are you using an external recorder? Are you using weather sealed lens (and need them)? Would you use the YAGH? If you answer no to these three questions (which all require significant extra costs), then almost 95% likely the Panasonic G85 will be a better choice for you than a GH4. There is still a few small percent left over for a few other small niche cases (such as if you think the 96fps slow motion quality is mighty fine and want to use it all the time?!).
