Nikon have patented their own version of dual pixel autofocus.
    https://www.diyphotography.net/nikon-mirrorless-camera-may-dual-pixel-autofocus-tech-according-new-patent/
We could well be seeing that in the new mirrorless cameras.
If you assume the leaked specs and price are correct, there's no need to think it will be anything approaching a 'lite' mirrorless camera.
Leaked ad campaign looks good. It's a Chinese one with a very famous actress. Not much unusual about that. If you want to read that much into a leaked BTS photo from one ad campaign because there isn't a serious pro photographer holding the camera...well... haha. Maybe if the leaked specs didn't mention a $3000 price tag and full frame 46MP sensor with 4K video.
It's great that the Sony monopoly on full frame mirrorless cameras (Leica aside) has come to an end.
There will be the Canon offering before too long as well, and then maybe Olympus / Panasonic will jump into the full frame mirrorless wars.
    More competition = better cameras.

So that's the latest teaser from Nikon, what it is confirming is that the size of the Mount will be huge, could fit a hasselblad 44x43 mm sensor. But I think this will give is much better IBIS for full frame camera and some unique lens like .95 Noct primes that they have patented. The more I think about this new Nikon Mirrorless Nikon camera is that the saying that Nikon might be late but when they come, they come with a bang. No one was guessing that this new mount would be that big and the more you think about it, the more it looks like a move that will last for another half a century at least. My guess is that Sony will be in big trouble, in this range of Mirrorless cameras and will have to see what Canon comes out next.

There are still more Dslr sold than Mirrorless until now. The thing is Nikon had very very good profit this year with their downsizing and restructuring.  In their latest  fiscal year they said how the D850 impacted their profit as it was a huge success. Now coming back to the ML line, the more I look into it the more I see big big surprise. For a starter the new lens mount. The thing is gigantic, it is about the same than Fuji medium format. I am not saying that they would release bigger sensor that 35 mm, but that could be a possibility in the future. The most probable use will be for .9 lens or lets say .2 zoom, that would  put them in another category. The second thing is a much bigger sensor box where the sensor could move much more with ibis. Imagine a full frame camera with the same quality ibis a gh5 etc. I even think that the rear screen will be bigger than 3.2 from the size which we know  now is around d750. (but thinner). What I don't expect unfortunately is 10bit video, 4k 60 fps, log etc.

    What about Pentax? Kidding.
Canon bashing is a sport here, but I've said it all along, a good mirrorless offering from CaNikon will put a big dent in Sony's sales. Nikon is targeting enthusiasts and most rumors point to Canon doing the same - so they're both targeting the a7's. They don't have to win the spec wars, good ergos and great AF along with the best from their current sensors will slow the migration to Sony. We know Canon can do mirrorless AF, and Nikon had the first hybrid AF with the 1 series a full 7 years ago. The various Canon AF adapters only exist because so many are using Canon glass with Sony bodies. Give those people Canon colors/menus/ergos - plus a 35//2 that they miss on Sony bodies and you have a hit. Detail's that Sony ignores because there was no competition, but makes a camera much more useful - like fully articulating LCD, functional touchscreens (the 5d4's is so much better), time lapse/focus stacking functions and so on will be what separates them from Sony.
Nikon has shown they can crank out lenses at a pretty fast pace, focus that output on the Z mount (or whatever its called) with a fully functioning adapter to make it easy for DSLR shooters to add a mirrorless body to their kit and the monopoly Sony's enjoyed will come crashing down pretty quick. I keep seeing comments like "why would anyone buy into a system with only 3 lenses over Sony," but what people seem to forget is that the number of DSLR shooters is still many times greater than mirrorless, and a lot of them simply don't want to leave the CaNikon ecosystem or give up CPS/NPS. Also, I know they hate to tip their hand, but a roadmap of the lenses planned for the first year or so would help for early adopters. Show off the next 10 lenses in the system after launch and people will buy in, all that's needed in the first year or so is the zoom trinity and reasonably fast primes in the 24/35/50/85/135 fl's - that covers a lot of ground. Switching systems is hard and costly, especially if you're invested in lots of high end glass.
Once the Nikon 45mp body is announced, keep an eye on used Sony bodies - I'm betting the number of a7r3's will spike, meaning good deals for bargain hunters. I've seen barely used copies on Fred Miranda for under $2400, I bet they hit $2k when pre-order fever starts on the Nikon.
These are good times, the bar will be raised across the board with competition from the big 2.

If Canikon knock it out of the park I don't see why anyone would consider m4/3 anymore. The Gh5 and Em1 II are already large cameras and there isn't so much to be gained in terms of size unless you are talking about telephoto lenses. The new nikon mirrorless looks to be diminutive in size so I don't think it will be too much of a consideration for people. I think panisonic and olympus either go full frame or die a slow death. Especially with full frame cameras dropping in price.
We are seeing the same problem with the fuji and the xh1, being in practical terms more expensive than the a7iii. The thing with fuji is that their lenses are quite expensive, especially considering they are apsc lenses. For example, their 100-400 is priced equivalently to canon's superior and pro level 100-400. Their range at the long end isn't good either.

That's not knowing Nikon and in its history. They take pride in there lens design and heritage and they consider them foremost as an optical company. They don't want you to adapt Sony or whatever company lens, they want their native lens  on their camera. The worst thing is that they have already adapter for the Nikon fmount and you to use their lens or to a lesser extent Nikon mount compatible lens. If the adapter is good, it might be better in some way as you could adapt 50+ years of Nikon glass at worst for them all the zeiss, tamron, tokina sigma lens that can use their advance metering and auto focus.
I have been a bit disappointed by Nikon video feature that I am a bit dubious. My benchmark would be a Nikon D850 level video spec. So no 10 bit and log profile. But I guess a very good autofocus, peaking etc will give a very good all rounder, with very good 4k and 1080p, with great low light (even better with the 24 megapixel model) and above all else Nikon colours. In overall a very very good photo/video hybrid camera but spec sheet wise not the top of the line.

Well when Nikon and Canon do they will win over a lot of users in a instant. As the colour science is one of the most important aspects, and sony is surely not a competitor on that department. As well as lenses, as a lot of users are using EF glass. Because there are a lot of camera's using the EF camera mount not just canon.

    Hopefully they have two adapters:

    1) for modern Nikon F lenses which is very good but relatively affordable
    2) supports ALL Nikon F lenses ever made, but more pricey and complex?
They should have shot the video with a Canon to hide what is in the shadows. Boom.... roasted

You might have a winner with the bigger mount for ibis, that could be why they choose a bigger mount so that the sensor can move a bit more.

    Latest updated rumors https://nikonrumors.com/2018/07/09/additional-nikon-mirrorless-full-frame-camera-specifications-af-and-more.aspx/
Over 400 AF points, not sure about the exact number, it should be somewhere between 430-450. The AF is supposed to be very fast.
The rear LCD screen is tiltable just like the Nikon D850.
There is a second LCD screen on the top of the camera (just like the Fuji X-H1 pictured above)
My understanding is that there is only one selection wheel on top of the camera.
The camera's "prism" with the EVF is a bit less angular/smoother when compared to the Sony a7.
I can now confirm that the new 24-70 mirrorless full frame kit lens will indeed be f/4.
I see 8K listed in the technical specifications, but it is hard for me to get the translation - I don't think it's for video, maybe 8K time-lapse just like the D850?
The new Nikon mirrorless camera will have a nice finish and a very comfortable grip. The overall handling/feeling is supposed to be excellent - this is coming from somebody who is/has tested the camera.
    Most likely no built-in flash.
The promo materials should include dancers.
Potential names: Z300 and Z500 (not confirmed at all, could be just a guess).

I thought they’d already discontinued the pocket ?  Watch that become a cult camera if it isn’t already.
I think they’ll keep the micro going for some time.  It’s really a different camera.
In the photo above the camera has a wooden camera cage, a Noga arm and a BMD 5” VA as the operating monitor. On front is the SLR Magic 10mm T2.1.  I’m manually focussing myself, using peaking on the VA.
By way of example almost all of this promo is either Ursa Mini Pro or Micro using that exact rig.
This whole scene is shot Ursa Mini Pro

I have used a LOT of Ursa Mini Pro and Micro in the resident.  Not just as an insert camera, but shooting whole scenes using only the Ursa Mini Pro.  Most scenes have a mix of Ursa Mini Pro and ALexa, and I’d estimate more than 40% of the show is Ursa Mini.
I tend to use the micro camera for these kinds of surgery shots where I can very easily reach into the scene and get super close before diving down to almost inside the surgical field, and then transitioning back to another actor. It keeps it very agile and alive shooting this way.  I’d anticipate the Pocket 2 will replace this rig for these kinds of shots.

Actually you were pretty harsh on the visual aesthetic and pretty judgy, calling out the filmmaker for being pretentious and daring to call their work a "film".  Not exactly collegiate and something that smacks a little of elitism.
You weren't just merely asking for an opinion.  You assassinated the work first and then asked for an opinion.  You weren't merely calling for opinions on if it was cinematic.  You slammed the film and a bunch of creative choices that aren't anything to do with the camera it was shot with and asked for consensus on if this was a cinematic piece (and by extention implied if the camera was capable of cinematic work)
Then when someone else posted something you thought did look cinematic, you blew it off as not being the camera but the filmmaker.
You're tying yourself up in knots a little trying to make a point that I'm not getting.

"They could make any camera look good"
Yeah we all know that the skills of those shooting are the most important factor in terms of end result. But you asked for cinematic footage from the camera ??
One of those skills though is also choosing a camera / lens package.
There have been Zeiss super 16 format Superspeeds as long as the 35mm format ones have existed.  They're great and actually pretty cheap.  Mostly in AB or PL m ount which can be easily adapted to MFT.
Unfortunately at this price there are many users that are new to filmmaking, or maybe see filmmaking as a hobby.  Blackmagic are exposing many users to a RAW or even high DR LOG workflow for the first time.  I see people slapping on LUTs designed for other cameras, not bothering to grade or even learn Resolve turning out half arsed results.
    But.
If you're willing to step up YOUR game, willing to LEARN how to grade within this workflow, the camera will not hold you back.  The codec will not get in your way.
It won't guarantee success either, you still have to be able to light, make nice frames and have a plan.  But you won't hit a ceiling with the camera very quickly in terms of image fidelity.

If you use the camera everyday, then just buy a couple SD and/or a couple CF cards. I do not understand how suddenly recording on an external USB C drive became mandatory workflow, and puzzles us for 4 pages!
It offers another option, it doesn't mean that replaces other media completely.

Umm that is a hard NO.  Why do you hate BMD so much?  The guy that filmed it clearly stated he pulled it out of his RX100 mark V to use.  He said it was a very slow SD card but that was all that he had.  He actually got an email from BMD to remove his download link because they are releasing test footage very soon and review models have already been sent out.  So no, this is just the case of poor sd card and not camera performance.  12-bit is not any more difficult than 10-bit beyond the data rate which isn't camera intensive.  Higher frame rates aren't difficult as the GH5, GH5s can easily handle those in a smaller body with limited cooling.  Blackmagic has lots of cooling.
Switching to a new sensor is not easy and it's not like they can do that very easily.  You make it sound like its easy to remove/add features in 5 months before the camera is supposed to release and production needs to begin.  The only feature blackmagic has announced that has ever been removed from a camera was the Global shutter feature of the 4.6k sensor.  They had it working but it had too many problems.  The Turret for the larger URSA is also not likely happening due to the costs and issues with manufacturing it, but it totally does work and there are images released.

Take for example rolling shutter, I mean it is so easy to pan right left and have at leat an impression about rolling shutter, but until now zero. I think speculation are off the chart, this clearly doesn't seems to be the same sensor tech used by BM since now. Them advertising +1600 ISO is a massive change from their camera before this one. Many thing points at a Sony sensor and we know what we can expect a bit from Sony sensor's and it would be much better that what was the case from previous BM cameras. So I say, better wait before applying some general rule to previous BM cams and workflows.

I would not say that until it has a Canon or at least a Sony phaze detect autofocus and I would add a lighter long gop codec. Not everyone will want 100's gig of data and continually manual focusing. But for filmmakers and docu it will trash anything around its price range.
