Brian Williams got a reaction from heart0less in Sigma Fp first shots - how does internal 8bit RAW compare to external 12bit RAW?
This isn't going to sell the camera to anyone, but I will say, having completely written off the 8-bit raw before I even got the camera, I was intrigued by the article here to give it a go, and while you can't push the grade like you can with the 12-bit, having the benefit of being able to adjust the white balance after the fact is really great, and I'm totally sold on using the 8-bit. Just sucks that a fast UHS-II card with a fraction of the capacity is more expensive than a 500gb T5. (Or half-glass full, awesome that a T5 is cheaper than a fast UHS-II card with a fraction of the capacity!)
Shot with the Sigma MC-21and the Canon thrifty fifty (which is a horrible combination btw, the slowest focusing I've ever seen, they're both going back). Works great in manual. Looking forward to some stabilized L-Mounts.

I'm also going to keep reminding myself that this is firmware 1.0, bc as I'm going through and editing what I shot this morning, I'm getting a bunch of DNG clips where, maybe every 10 frames, a frame is off by like 10 frames, so the whole clips keeps jumping all over the place. Fixable by combing through frame by frame and renaming them all, but a serious pain in the ass.

Next Sigma engineers meeting- "Can someone go get the company card, lets buy out Slimraw, get this thing inside the camera for the next firmware".

Half nude tragedy
Ok. Let's agree on this.
There is noone to buy those two cameras for AF perfomance. They both rely on same technology that we all know it's not efficient.
Let's concetrate on image quality thay can deliver.

Yes I am. Ordered from WEX yesterday, it's in stock. Cost £2399 with the 40mm.
I am looking forward to proceeding in Resolve with my Sigma Fp footage as I've been doing for years with Cinema DNG from the 5D Mark III with ML. Was always very happy with the results.
If what you say has a big impact on colour and white balance, hopefully Resolve can have support for Cinema DNG beyond just Blackmagic's own cameras...
Don't make us go back to Premiere
Good to know thanks.

Modified Sigma's smaller grip to allow it to hold a T5; haven't printed it yet so not so sure how comfortable it is.

Also samsung t5 ssd 2 terabyte is only 299 usd.
And after you get home with the footage you can use slimraw to compress the dngs.
https://www.slimraw.com/
You can use the ssd directly as the source and compress while you copy to another drive.

What would posses anyone with any semblance of quality control of their output to publish images like these ?
I get that there is a race to get things out first amongst those type of review sites but fuck me.
As for the video, the least said the better.

You can't really downsample RAW, the reconstruction method don't work as well as you'd get aliasing in your downsampled channels and loose the ability to interpolate the missing pixels surely?
6K -> 4K Binning, not sure how that would work without introducing issues. Keep all the greens and dump some other colours? Seems like a lot of work when that processing work could be better spent dumping the data out. During the design they knew the sensor size so why not ensure the rest of the camera can handle the datarates, even if it was a little bigger? Sigma have no video camera line to eat into, they're perfectly positioned to disrupt.
I can't believe that a few weeks away from supposed delivery the most basic question of whether all the movie modes are crop isn't answered!
cheers
Paul
