I see nothing to suggest that this is recording movies off anything other than a centre crop.
I don't see pixel binning working on a 3:2 6K sensor in any way that would make sense. I'm 99.9% that the movies are all centre crop.
I didn't read that about stills, i'd have assumed they were full RAW, 14bit.
Also there's no mention of whether the data in the RAW is linear or log based - 8bit linear would be utterly useless and others have pointed out banding in the movies which originally would have thought it was compression based but maybe not. So 8bit linear is pointless, in fact only 12bit linear starts getting into the realm of normal.
Some clarification from Sigma would be useful, but i guess we don't have to wait that long.
I really want to like this!
    cheers

No, but I see a bunch of us jumping on this camera in a few weeks with an EF adaptor, and eventually some of us will probably give in buy some L-mount lenses, and Sigma will have won.

The SD card used in the Pocket 6K is not one approved by Blackmagic so I'm not at all surprised it didn't work too well. Perhaps check the approved media list on the BMD site next time or maybe even read the manual. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/faq/59026

I think when you're talking about recording on the T5 drives, rather than unwieldy external screen based recorders, the whole internal/external definition becomes a bit moot.
Conceptually, its not actually that far removed from RED drives (aside from the "proprietary" media) and no one considers that to record externally.
There are locking solutions for USB-C that could easily enable an after market "cartridge" type of housing and the SmallRig solution is a neat one.
Hard to tell without taking it outdoors really but in terms of using it in combination with the loupe, I've used that same on my Sigma SD0 (and even put an LCD in it to make a cheap EVF  ) and its very solid and with it on the FP we weren't having any difficulty hitting focus.....
Well if they were, then as this was pretty much the response from me and @Andrew Reid when they mentioned the price they'll hopefully take that into account in their final calculations

Oh, yes, absolutely! Anyone who really needs 24p can probably afford to shell out for a second-hand 550D, maybe even a 60D if they really feel like splashing the cash.
Or they could buy, you know, literally any camera from any of the other DSLR/mirrorless manufacturers out there.

Shoot in 30p, but then conform it into 24p.  The subtle slow-mo of the image will make it look more cinematic.  Canon is just trying to help you become better filmmakers.

Brian Williams reacted to Cliff Totten in Canon removing 24p from new 4K mirrorless cameras - THE MEMES
Its not funny. A Canon rep told there is a legitimate reason for no 24p. He said something about the way the sensor is read out. He said that Canon wants it to operate at a perfect temperature. It runs too cold at 24p, but is at an optimum temp at 30p. It was done for the benefit of the camera.

I reckon the 30p lovers should all go and tell Hollywood and Netflix to switch.
I don't care if the camera is aimed at me or not, only Canon's marketing people do.
The founding principals of the cinema look include 24p and it's as important as dynamic range, RAW, etc., 25p looks similar but 24p is the standard and you can't mix the two on one timeline.
Canon know this which is why it's another Protect the Cinema EOS margins cripple.
Which is a shame because the new sensor technology looks good, and has finally caught up to the readout speed of others.
If you are calling yourself a filmmaker but prefer to shoot 30p over 24p you should be a bit embarrassed.
25p is another matter, that has the same cinematic feel to 24p.
I shoot 25p quite a lot because I live in a PAL region.
I am glad it has 25p.
But I'm not happy with the 24p bullshit spreading on this forum and screen Hz judder-stutter-bullshit. Stop doing it. Tiresome to read.

Brian Williams got a reaction from webrunner5 in Sony - the new Canon!
As I mentioned earlier, I got a used RX100VA today, and its great. This new one that came out today is also great. I’m not one of the ones who are going to tear Sony a new one just because they released an incremental update. It would be nice if they fixed the awful menus, or put a damn grip on the camera, or brought back the ND filter, but either way, this new one is incrementally better than last year’s, so if you are buying for the first time it’s better than buying last years for the same price, and that’s good.
I think what everyone is saying here is that the hype that this thing is getting, when it’s only slightly better than last years, is a little ridiculous. These guys get flown to Venice, given a free unreleased camera to play with for a day, and then they turn around and upload a video acting like it’s the greatest thing they’ve ever seen (instead of just a slightly better version of the thing they played with last year around this time). If you go from a Prius to a Model X you’re probably going to be really excited. If you go from a 2018 Honda Accord to a 2019 Accord, not so much. This is that.
  25. Thanks
Brian Williams reacted to mercer in Sony - the new Canon!
Yeah, idk, I think they are all the same. The problem occurred in 2014 when they forced 4K on us a generation, or two, too soon so Sony and Panasonic could sell some 4K TVs. None of the companies had even perfected 1080p yet... and they still haven’t.
Andrew, with your skill set and talent, I really think it’s time you move onto a cinema camera. I doubt you’ll ever get all you really want from these hybrids. And with the size getting smaller, and the specs getting better, an EVA1, or whatever, would be a better choice.
With that said, I agree with this silly RX100 update. Waste of engineer’s time.
