Eh, I've shot a ton of weddings across many different cultures.
Weddings more than anything have taught me how boring we are. The music choices between every couple overlap 85% of the time. I feel like I could copy+paste half the speeches from one wedding to another.
Father-daughter / mother son dances all seem to have people picking the same 4 songs. Don't even get me started on all the cute 'marriage jokes'.

I feel like a 10th grade computer science student could write this one. How hard could it be? 80,000 threads talking about whether something is cinematic or not. *insert brand here* sucks and is great. Something about motion cadence and companies intentionally crippling codecs. Done!
I really think there's a fallacy at work here. The lack of trust in the development in AI is because we want to think we are more unique and interesting than we truly are.
I actually hope I'm wrong about all of this, but I doubt it.

Man why Wouldn't you want to get rich? Are you doing yourself or your clients any good with that kind of mindset? Don't you want to try hard to do the best you can? And if you have that goal you can get rich, or at least well off. Skill ought to be rewarded. Time and stress ought to be rewarded. You can only have fun so long without adding a lot of stress. If I have stress I am going to get paid for it, and paid well, or go back to just fun and no stress, who cares, and then why buy all that gear...

iamoui reacted to BTM_Pix in 3C Cinema Camera Controller App for Pocket 4K - OFFICIAL LAUNCH
    Well, here we are then.

The 3C app is now officially available from the Play store for Android devices.
3C enables you to remotely control and monitor the primary functions of your Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K from an Android device using Bluetooth LE.

Using 3C, you have access to the following camera functionality.

    Aperture
    ISO
    Shutter Angle
    White Balance
    Record
Focus & Zoom (with compatible lenses)

With 3C you can also store your own custom setting sets for exposure, focus and zoom parameters for later recall as well as automate transitions between stored focus points*.

For ease of use, 3C uses a single screen touch interface to control all of this functionality and avoid the need for you to have to activate any sub-menus to change settings.

3C has a scalable user interface to enable you to remove focus and zoom controls from the screen should you not require them and wish to run the app on a small screen Android device.
In addition, 3C can also be used as an interface hub to enable control of the camera from compatible Bluetooth gamepads.
You can purchase 3C from the Play store here http://tinyurl.com/y5eyujeu
You can read the PDF user guide here User Guide For 3C v1.1 by CDA-TEK Ltd .pdf
You can use gamepads from iPega and 8Bitdo that support keyboard mode and examples of these are https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KA6OR7Q (iPega) and https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017PAX036 (8Bitdo).
3C will also support wireless live viewing from the camera in a future update with additional hardware.

Lol wait.. you're the one that brought up NASA uses Nikon for still photography.. in a Canon thread.. on a video-centric forum.. and I'm the one turning things into a pissing contest?!!
Cmon man, you went there. All i did was post a relevant link to an article which btw you thanked me for finding interesting. Why now the hissy fit?? Woke up wrong side of bed?
This place is like a ticking time-bomb, always with the drama.. especially if you dare say anything remotely positive about Canon, then all hell breaks loose, SMH.
FYI i started out with Nikon, shot on them for decades. Still own much of their glass & an FM2. Why would I feel remotely threatened by astronauts shooting stills?
So please mate.. take a deep breath and ask yourself..

Regarding DR it's probably like the 6Dmkii which has excellent DR. My take, a shooter that can't get great looking images with either camera needs to get to work. Because it's not the camera that sucks..

Idk, I think someone posted a link in a Canon thread that showed all of the Acadamy Award Doc nominations were shot on Canon cameras and a bunch of people came here to dispute the sense of shooting on a Canon.
The reality of the situation is this...
NOBODY CARES WHAT CAMERA YOU USE!!!!!!!!!!
They only care about the STORY you tell with that camera.
Case in point, I recently watched The Florida Project and I really enjoyed it. While watching the credits I learned it was shot on film and then i also saw the Filmic Pro logo. Immediately I looked online and learned that the last scene/sequence was shot on an iPhone and you know what... while I watched the film... I didn’t even notice. And after learning the iPhone was used... I didn’t even bother to go back and see if I could tell the difference because I enjoyed the story.

    Dear Andrew,
thank you for your articles and wonderful site full of enthusiastic discussions. I learned a lot from these discussions over the past years - especially on the anamorphics side of things.
That said, the increasingly aggressive tone in your articles saddens me. Why is this necessary? That is not to say that I agree with Tony Northrup‘s video ... but is it really that important?
I would love this forum to remain the place of positivity, creativity and artistry - something I look up to.
There is no reason why it cannot remain that.

Ripped off? Can’t say I feel ripped off. And as you state, you don’t buy Canon so how can you really speak with any authority to the matter.
Had the Fuji X-T3... two bodies... a full collection of lenses including MX cinema glass. Both bodies died. Yet I didn’t feel ripped off. I also wouldn’t call their cameras “shit”... but from personal experience I would be hesitant to buy from them again. The image was pretty good, but I prefer the Canon.
I also owned the Nikon Z6. I wouldn’t call it  “shit” but it’s AF is nowhere near as good as Canon’s. Also the image is a bit digital feeling for my taste. Reliability was good.
Who was “ripped off”? Did they not get a camera they paid for? Did Canon lie about the specs? I just don’t understand the hostility?

I think you got auto-corrected - didn't you mean to say "standard marketing"...?
It's basic economics.  Companies will push and push until certain limits are met, and the phrase for this is "what the market can bear" - not "what the market gets mildly annoyed at" or "what the market would like if it's Christmas".  Saying "what the market can bear" is basically like saying "what you can get away with before the average person goes completely f*cking nuts".
We talk about these companies like they're people, and that's fine.  The problem is that we don't analyse them like people.  There was a great documentary series called The Corporation in which an psychology professor who consults for the FBI "compares the profile of the contemporary profitable business corporation to that of a clinically diagnosed psychopath". (link)
Besides, I called it September last year when I said "The best new camera purchase in 2018 is... Don't!" ???

This is such a defeatist approach. Instead of looking at the market with a passive attitude and maintain profitability by recycling old tech as much as possible, they could create new trends. There is a huge market ready to be tapped for Vloggers and instagramers. These guys just need something practical and easy to use, that connects to their smartphones without roaming through menus for 10 minutes.
Yes Canon is behind in some areas most people don't need 16 stops of DR and 8k. Imagine a Canon Osmo with Canon colors and DPAF. Or some type of M50 with decent battery, 4k, and full smartphone App implementation to pair it with Instagram...
No, Canon just extrapolates CIPA figures to forecast the number of 5Dmk4/T7i variants they can sell in this market... So yeah, it's not going to be pretty.

With all due respect, you need to stop doing this thing where you go on long diatribes based on assumef information that isn't even true. The Varicam lines have been very popular sellers, especially the LT. Not FS7 or C300 monster-sales, but for episodic, spots, and doc, they're seeing plenty of professional use. Do your research before you make sweeping statements about sales figures or market popularity.

I find that to be incorrect. Even when adjusting raw, the original color science is in effect and dictates how and how much adjustments are needed. Otherwise for example all LUTs would work the same on all footage. But they don't. Anyone with two different raw capable cameras can easily try for themselves. Take a side by side. Adjust one and copy the settings to the other. It won't look the same.

And that is the key. Sure I can fiddle with images but sometimes there are a lot of them. In a project I was leading recently we where a couple of photographers that took roughly 15 000 photos. And I edited out maybe 5000 keepers that are going to be used in various marketing material. I was pretty happy that it was only one photographer that used a different brand and the rest of us all had the same color science.

If I ever for some reason would start to work full time as a photographer or filmmaker again. Spending a huge amount of time processing pictures. Then I would definitely want to minimize the time spent in post.

    WHAT!?
    What does that even mean.
The colour science of a camera is at least 50% about the adjustment of user parameters and how it responds.
    How flexible that engine is...
Also for instance you can have fundamental underlying colour gamut, colour space formats, gamma curves that stay the same even if you adjust other things like white balance and hue. Do these not matter??!
Oh yes it is. Very complex stuff.
Even different RAW files from different cameras handle differently in post so it is not just about flicking a switch and going "ah, I like it now".
    Same with film stocks.

No there is not. That is the point of my story! You think the hell my town is the only town in the world that has the same problem?? The Tit is drying up. You can take a wedding with a Smartphone. And tons of people are doing it. It is pretty much over for Pro Photographers. Hell newspapers here shoot photos, videos with a cellphone. And for interviews they use 1"sensor camcorders. I have no clue who is going to buy all this FF stuff. There is too much competition now in it.
The vast majority of people are Just going to buy the kit lens and that is it. You are not going to stay in business selling one lens and a cheap ass 50mm prime, and making 150 bucks on each body. Hell Olympus Loses 150 bucks on each body!

iamoui reacted to kye in Are cameras without IBIS and AF useless for shooting video in 2018?
I agree with most of the above, but the thinking is wrong.
Is super slow-motion required in 2018?  Not if you're shooting a doco, but yes if you're shooting a hair or shampoo commercial.
Is IBIS required in 2018? Not if you have the time, space and permission to take a stabiliser of some kind and set it up, yes if you're shooting in situations where a tripod/monopod/shoulder-rig/gimbal/etc isn't allowed or isn't practical.
Is 4K required in 2018? Not if you're shooting for a client that doesn't mandate it, yes if they do (eg, Netflix).
Is RAW required in 2018?  Not if the requirements of your scene will be sufficiently captured in a more compressed coded, yes if you need the flexibility or resolution in post (eg, green screening)
Is AF required in 2018? Not if you have the ability to manually focus sufficiently on set to track the subject in your images, yes if you don't.
Is extreme high ISO performance required in 2018?  Not if you are shooting a bright enough subject, or have the ability to light them sufficiently, yes if neither of these is true.
Anyone can ask the question of ANY parameter within photography and find examples of both yes and no, depending on the project.
ANY DISCUSSION OF REQUIREMENTS BEGINS WITH THE CONTENT TO BE CREATED.  CAMERAS ARE TOOLS FOR A JOB.  EACH JOB IS DIFFERENT.
Anyone who thinks they can generalise is too stupid to understand that other people shoot different projects, using different techniques, in different circumstances.

I have a request Jon, can you stop leading people down these rabbit-hole style URLs with just one or two words underlined. It's going to get the forum flagged by Google's spider as poor SEO or spam. It's frustrating for us as well, because we click the link out of curiosity and then find it completely irrelevant. So if you're going to link to other sites, explain what it is you're linking to and paste the URL in separately so we can see what site we'll be lead out to.
    Thank you.
