It isn't specially for photographers. But specially for owned items that you carry around when you're out and about like laptops, photography equipment and other electronics - up to a certain total sum.

This applies since I've bought the camera equipment privately - not through own company. I believe company insurances will be priced quite a bit higher (although I haven't looked into it), but might be worthy if you travel a lot.

My insurances are through one of the larger insurance companies in Sweden, and they're only acting on the Swedish market. However, I know there were similar insurances available when I lived in Finland as well - so I would expect there would be some insurance company providing similar services in other EU countries as well.

Impossible - in what country?

I have all my photo equipment insured (up to a value of 10k or 15k euro I think). It can get stolen, I can drop it from a roof, into the water etc - and the insurance will cover it. All I will need is to prove that it's been in my ownership with a receipt or such.

I expect that the next Nikon full frame bump will come first half next year. 

My guess is that a D750 successor or a D810 successor comes first - with 4k. For 4k, D750 successor with fewer megapixels and less of a crop would make more sense (I kinda doubt they'll have a full sensor read out). I expect that a 4k D750 successor to come before a D810 replacement.

D610: I don't think they'll drop D750 to that price level. Either the D750 will see a reduction in price, but to a higher price - or they'll bump the D610 with another entry level full frame body. What they will do depends on how well it has paid off for Nikon to have a range with 5 different full frame bodies. I'm not so sure it makes sense for them to have so many models.

Correct. The older image processor isn't enough for 4k.

I expect that the D7200 successor, and most likely the D5500 successors will get the new image processor - and probably both 4k. But since D500 is so new, I think they will let that camera be the only DX camera with 4k for a while still.

Most likely both of D750 and D810 successors will get the new image processor too, although I think there's chances that they might add 4k only to the D750 successor and segment it even more as the camera of choice for full frame video.

@Andrew Reid might be able to disable the features.

I've had that issue where it's impossible to enter anything in the text field as well. I can't recall exactly what I did - but the issue is that the forum uses a client-side javascript which is buggy. Since it's client-side, I was able to fix the issue by using the browser inspector in Chrome (I do web development, so I could easily pinpoint the issue).

Every 15-30 minutes sound more like some OS level process rather than SMART tests (sounds too frequent for it to be this - unless hitachi has some really weird/bad default configuration). Hit up activity monitor to ensure that no OS X process is interfering.

Yet, he has found it important enough to make that reel private, which shows that he (or someone who cares about Saadawi Medias reputation) in fact is reading this thread, most likely Ebrahim Jr.

It certainly does not look good for Ebrahim Jr if the priorities are to hide traces of wrongdoings.

I do believe Ebrahim Saadawi, the radiologist exist. Here's a post, more than 2 years back where he tells about being a radiologist for 40 years:

I doubt a physician with a PhD in radiology needs to scam people online. Considering his reply in this very thread (and the 2 year old one), I find it likely to be true that he actually has that clinic he talked about. I would find it unlikely that he would have spent 2 years creating a fake identity as the radiologist/doctor on this forum - just to finally commit a scam.

If those are plausible I'd also find it plausible about what he wrote about the media company (I also have memories about him mentioning that company many months ago, maybe a year ago). Then it might very well be that there are several people in his media company that has access, just as the post in this thread stated.

If those above are plausible, then it's also likely to be correct what he wrote about the rangefinder being at the media company - and someone having access to it there. If there's a media company, IP addresses will most likely be unusable, as someone could have used the company's Internet.

So, hence I believe the best thing is to get in contact with Senior, and the very best method would be a video call to verify identity. No need for slandering in a forum thread, just try to reach the real source. IF that can be done - and data can be extracted from the accounts, there are better methods for tracing who committed the scam: like dumping the Facebook data dump that you can download - and dig through that one for evidence. But doing this, requires that the account owner still has access to the account.

I told these things earlier to the people who got scammed. Thought I wouldn't add to this thread, but doing it due to all of this speculation...

Anyway, I've been here since before Ebrahim Saadawi joined EOSHD, and I've read many posts from that account.

From the very beginning there was the note in the signature that two people from the same family with same name used the account. I always found it weird that people share an account, hence I remember noticing it from the very beginning.

I do believe that there is at least two people using the account - since there has been a difference in language and style of posts. I have no idea if there has been more than those two using the same account. Possible, I guess.

I don't think it's too constructive with all the speculation here. The only constructive thing would be to actually try to get in contact with Ebrahim senior - the most plausible thing is that both him and junior exist. That in itself might prove difficult for English-speakers, since Egyptian Arabic is the main language in Egypt. Hence if you want to google something regarding their persons (or companies) in Egypt - you better do it in Arabic.

I'm usually over-cautious.

I booked a trip to Amsterdam just to meet up with the seller when I bought my Isco 36.

With most of the equipment I buy here in Sweden, I also meet up with the sellers and inspect the goods thoroughly - about 90% of the time. I can make exceptions when it's cheaper lenses.

I have however even backed out of buys even after meeting up.

One incident I remember very well is when I met up with a guy selling a Nikon lens that was about 5 years old, no mention of any bad condition in the ad. First thing I noticed when we met up was how the front of the lens was totally fogged up and dusty, no way you could test shoot with the lens being like that. I hadn't even thought about needing to bring some lens cleaning equipment with me. Also, considering that such a recent lens was in such a condition, and that the seller did not even mention it in the ad made it easy to decide to back out of the buy quickly...

I also suspected that the lens might have been stolen - I haven't ever met up with a photographer trying to sell a lens that he hasn't at least tried to wipe clean.

I've really liked the look of the Nikon AI-S 85mm f/2 on a full frame sensor.

Other manufacturers have had higher DR than Canon for many years already, but it seems like Canon is catching up. This seems like good news for anyone using Canon cameras - as soon as they add this to other cameras down the line.

BUT, if you have some interesting cheap recommendations for shooting other sports, like snowboarding / mountain biking, I'm all ears!

I've been considering getting an A6300, partly due to its 1080p HFR mode and partly because I already have a Sony to Nikon speedbooster. Another idea is to sell the speedbooster and get a GX80 - that stabilisation might be more useful than HFR mode vs 60p.

So far I've only used the gopro for filming the snowboarding, and it works nicely for the first person shooting. Here's a sample:

Nice, I had only seen the first three videos before. These are so excellent. I would never be able to do what he did, it would feel all too uncomfortable just standing there filming people like that.

Blu-ray is cheaper per GB than hard disks. No matter which medium you pick, you want to make sure you have backups if it is important footage. Optical media can get scratched - or can be faulty so that the discs deteriorate over time, while hard disks eventually will die one way or the other - so you want redundancy by RAID, and perhaps backups to optical discs anyway.

Action comedy: Big Trouble in Little China and Hot Shots 1 and 2 - all of them hilarious. I got fond memories of Beverly Hills Cop too, although I haven't seen those films in decades.

Action: The Alien films, Predator ("If it bleeds, we can kill it"), Terminator 1 & 2, Tim Burton's Batman.

I also have a passion for the cheesy 80s B movies, like the films featuring Chuck Norris, various Ninja movies, films produced by Cannon Group etc. Something about the silly productions make them innocent and fun, bringing back memories from the 80s. Hence I really loved the retro mood of the new Swedish indie short film Kung Fury.

Probably a lot more great ones out there, but those are the ones that I immediately think of!

Since people are commenting on the logo and name of the site:

My profession is as a designer, which include the tasks of creating logos, branding and profiling of companies & products. I can say: the branding and logotype don't keep me back from this site.

What keeps me coming back is the community here in the forum and your blog posts Andrew. It is the genuine core essence of EOSHD; discussions and information, tips on hardware, tips on how to get the most out of cameras - and good videos by you Andrew - and from the community. Very inspirational.

Also, I used to love reading at nofilmschool in the early days. Their rebranding was visually pleasant. But what they did, was to destroy the core (just as previously discussed in this thread): genuine articles from people with a passion for filmmaking and cameras. Somehow their rebranding weeded out the skilled people with interesting discussion too (it existed in the comments section of the blog in the early days). Nowadays I seldom visit that site.

I don't see anything wrong with this site having the name 'EosHD', it is a heritage from how the site came to be. The logo perhaps looks a bit dated, but on the other hand it is personal, non-corporate - not like some spam site that just wants to get ad money. Hence it works with the DNA of the community and the blog which are still very personal with genuine opinions.

I'm into climbing as well. In the climbing community there's a good example of a blog & site which has a horrible and confusing design: http://www.alanarnette.com/blog/ - yet I love reading that blog and keep finding lots of great content at the site, which makes me return to it, even on mobile, although it's a terrible experience on a mobile device. But I do it because of the great content.

In the end, sites with great content that provides learning, new information and good exchange from the users will keep on being relevant (in the meantime the big social media hypes might get replaced by the other latest & greatest competitors over time).

And on the inspirational level: I find that you need to take in a lot of creative experiences and process them - to be able to make creative outputs in new directions.

My favourite example would be the insane/genius Alejandro Jodorowsky. I remember seeing him lacking ideas for the progression of a story/character in a documentary about him. What did he do? He picked out a book on random, flipped up a page and looked at it - and found something he could use to progress the story in a whole new direction. Whenever I lack creative motivation/inspiration, I try to find something totally new/different/unknown for me to soak in and think about, be it a film, a book, tv series, music, documentary or other form of art. Then I like to contemplate about that to see where my thoughts lead me. Travelling also tend to give me new experiences the same way.

@Andrew Reid Also, with or without inspiration/motivation - I can understand that it takes a while for you to put out the blog posts. It's very visible that a lot of work goes into creating your reviews! And on a lot of other sites, it's very visible which reviews are copy-paste rush jobs...

It's not the SSD. At a sequential read/write speed at about 450-500 MB/s it should definitely be fast enough for 4k, no doubt about it.

Quite a lot depends on the USB enclosure controller. Try to benchmark the ssd in the enclosure and see if you can reach those 450-500 MB/s speeds (or at least up to around 400 MB/s, which is often the real-world limit with USB 3.0). If not, you can assure that the enclosure is keeping your speeds down. Try running the AJA Ki benchmark: https://www.aja.com/en/products/aja-system-test.

Camcorder is not needed; Panasonic GH4R shoots as long as the battery lasts (and the batteries last quite a long time).

It's a good option, but if you need really good low-light performance, the small sensor cameras aren't as good as large sensor cameras.

Another option is to record from the HDMI-out. I know at least that my D800 supports recording for as long as battery lasts over HDMI-out, and I guess a lot of other cameras support that.
