  1. But if I will tell you that I had to resist to 7x NX500 units all in a once just yesterday... in the same bundle.

    Will you believe me?

    You can.

And I've already bought a couple of them before!

    LOL

But I've tried to find reasons to buy different focal lengths samples of NX mount glass just to follow... : D

Disclaimer: Love the videos of this guy... :- )

Stealth can be one motivator, that's definitely true.  The MagSafe quick-attached ND / filter holders would be suitable for such a thing, if you wanted a 180 shutter and manual experience.  The fact the back of the phone doesn't look like a phone might even help to disguise the filming activity.

If you're pointing the camera at someone the other strategy is to pose, like you're taking selfies instead of using the rear-cameras to shoot other people.  That's probably the mobile phone equivalent of Wingrand constantly fumbling with his SLR  so people think he's an incompetent old man who doesn't know how to hold a camera, rather than someone taking photos.

I stand corrected on the BeastGrip adapter - the MK3 DOF adapter seems to look just fine, unlike the previous ones which had the optical performance of a lens from the 1800's.  Still, it's not a good option if you also want to be stealthy!

It's a bit like a blanket... if you push one side, the other one will end undercovered LOL ; ) Maybe 'cause of that I bought a couple of Zenfone 7 Pro devices with their retractable camera.

Overheating and much of a distraction a smartphone is, are a PITA anyway.

The AcePro will give it a try. I wonder how those Beastgrip glass add-ons will work out. That anamorphic adapter in both 1.33x and 1.55x versions look like sweet, though ;- )

    I wonder about this:

Is that you? @EmanuelYou've gotten big arms from using that thing for your phone. Guess you won't be able to answer phone calls with that constuction around it and with another construction around it.:)

You need to click that link up there to find my "big arms" if any ; ) to hold that thing... : D Now go back there and take a look on the " t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e " stuff they are able to extract from there... Or better call it terrific?! Well, I end confused! LMAO ; ) But you need to watch it to begin with, as usual, buddy ;- ) The toys these guys invent nowadays... And so lovely to think a hard case is still a hard case, isn't it? LOL : )

That said, you know what ideas that Beastgrip (BTW as disclaimer, I am customer of them) outfit gives to me?

The 37mm thread to couple to the AcePro before or as alternative to a Back-Bone release and extra glass use from either lens adapters, filters, suchlike :- )

This was always the problem I had with using a phone on manual settings - you are forced to choose one of the following:

    • Buy the latest phone and use it as a phone and camera, and use a rig for the camera use
Crap option because you now don't have good access to your phone, plus you risk interruptions from calls / notifications or have to use aeroplane mode and miss potentially important things

    • Buy the latest phone and use it as a phone and camera, with some sort of rig that easily removed for the camera use
Almost any clip-on/off rig (even just an ND) is normally incompatible with proper cases that protect the phone, either requiring you use their protective case (which is invariably a POS), or you take the proper case on and off (which is hard to do and damages them quickly), or you have to use the phone without much drop/scratch protection

A mobile phone is still a mobile phone. Maybe iPhones are less phones than the leftover but personally I've found them to provide a good fun for a ride but when overheat they are just a brick... In any case, when not, you can obviously forget them as communications device if you're using them for something else other than its primary use.

    • Buy the latest phone as camera and use your old phone as phone
If I just paid a bunch of money for a phone that is only a camera, why didn't I just buy a proper camera?
    • Buy two of the latest phones, one for phone, one for camera
      Same as above.

    • Buy an older phone as camera
Same as above, with the possible exception of buying an android phone that can shoot RAW

Because a camera is not a phone. There are many times you won't have any other device with you and the best camera is the one you hold with you in your hands when needed.

It doesn't exist that, only a camera : ) You buy a system, not a camera. Full of many lenses and so on.

    A camera looks a camera.

I give you an example, no, two.

June 29, 2023. Public event. People don't like to be shot. Law is at shooter's disposal. Public place in that jurisdiction means consentment for acquisition. Its usage is something different, in any case no one can impede you to shoot in any way other than when start to threat the camera crew.

January 1, 2024. Identical episode. In the beginning, only because of the capture devices used, people in a public event had no idea they were filmed. So, spontaneous footage with people dancing and so on was possible to gather and gather. Until the moment, people realize where the cameras are. End of fun. End of good footage.

Here are two examples where the PRO device is the one capable to still produce footage in the memory card or any other storage location. Get the idea? This means a lot to those involved in the field.

The point is the technology is there. These people of Back-Bone, Beastgrip and so one, they are solid players to really help the independent film communities.

Playing the part of the film crews twenty years ago doesn't help at all, just for the sake of the art and this craft, if not anything else :- )

I also did a deep-dive on the setups that use ground glass and a real lens and the image had huge problems - if any camera looked like that then it would be laughed off the internet.

    Speaking of devil...

Wow, that's a misleading use of a test chart!

I don't doubt but must tell you it is the less important take to get my attention to ; ) Well, I confess, I love small toys even those called or labeled as PRO to sell or be used for real outcome on set : ) Comes to mind those usual old lists BBC approved, today more prone to have a different name on the customary Netflix approved picks for acquisition : D

Is there that big of a market for people that are hired by Netflix to make content and want to shoot on $2k cameras as the a cam?  Their approved list is only for content they produce in-house.  If you want to sell a film to Netflix, you can shoot it on anything you want - and you can shoot some percentage of footage on non-approved cameras as well.

Rather true... : ) And the price of such camcorder wouldn't end under the $2K mark either ;- )

  6. This is the fine example of a juicy thread ; ) Pity we cannot express all the feelings we have towards what we read. A special mention though to a couple among my favs now @QuickHitRecord@kye despite to never undersestimate the contribution of everyone of you... : ) I think it's one of the flaws here when people tend to neglect any of the voices heard. Every simgle one of you always have something to bring for our lives, so take care of each one of you. Your milestones, presence, daily life, even your beloved ones and part of your being, expressed in your stories posted in these lines, reach some other people here. Maybe not everyone but the ones to count.

I believe a bit more of love and compassion for the other one is never enough either.

To read this or that had this or that misfortune is something we should meditate about and feel sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings of others, as well share their achievements and joy with zero envy. As much as possible. Even though how human this flaw is, unfortunately.

I guess it is due to the lack of edit button?? 😞

If only we could still edit posts! (more than a few seconds afterwards) Then we wouldn't see two or three plus posts in a row from the same person.

I don't think this is the cause.

My strategy is to draft the post, then re-read it in the editor before posting it.  When I post it and then re-read it I have to frantically make edits until the timer blocks any more edits.  I think it's a 5 minute window.

I also have a vague recollection that it was put into effect because people were making inflammatory posts and then days later were editing them then gaslighting everyone after the evidence had been erased.  It made for very strange reading too because it looked like they made a calm post and then all the following quotes were doctored to make them the asshole.

Sadly, we all suffer because a few people are emotionally damaged.

I think it's a typical case of that Niels Bohr's quotation set (I | II | III) where both of you can be accurate TBH :- )

  8. I know it's not my 1st DLP love nor a LG CineBeam choice of other fellows over here such as @BTM_Pix but the fact is now you can buy it for a third of before when a quarter of century ago was a dream for 64x less resolution to cost 20x more, literally ; )

    Which means a difference of 1280x : X

Only to those who haven't had the chance to realize how critical the gap has been fulfilled since then...

No need to be depressed if life expectations don't meet the standard of your dreams if that's the case of anyone of us to read this : ) Get one for 500 bucks : D and you can only end just fine ;- )

Merry Christmas anyone. Merry Christmas Emanuel. A little question between the merry joys of the this time of the year:) Have you been continuing to use RAW recording on your phone after the first joys of pocket cinema quality? Or has it been just a sneak peak into a curiosity for you? @Emanuel

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all and in particular you Marty : ) To reply your wondering, two negative findings have placed me on hold about this one for now so far:

reliability and storage limitations of these mobile devices for such hungry memory requirements, at least the few I've tested, among them my mostly used OnePlus 9 Pro... the personal mobile phone of daily usage.

This was tonights project.  Just for fun...

Left my thanks-like above but had no time yet to address a comment I think fully justifies also because he is one of the most valuable contributors in this community and I think it's worthy of it too, so here is now : )

When I've watched this project of Carl Dreyer (here's some meeting with film students to only those who understand Danish though), some former film critic and older fellow from same alma mater/filmschool, programmer from a mainstream network/state TV and responsible for a TV program dedicated to short film on-air for decades (I proudly designed) told me he didn't like it because the Danish filmmaker had repeated shots on this short film paid by the local road safety authorities where seems Dreyer simply made the apology of speed instead for many of the viewers if not all... I stayed with my doubts and still keeping that typical feeling of a masterpiece anyway ; )

Came to my mind now 'cause the use of those cycling sunset shots by @kye towards the refuge staring there in the coast before the upcoming night as epilogue. Why this is film?

You play with the one outside beyond the pictures, not only but no less, the time to come*... That's cinema!

    - EAG

    * from the material previously organised by the filmmaker there in the film, that's why kye is misleading us ; ) LOL to add some fabrication on it, art is real but also fake and true at same time, the truth of cinema : X this is film, after all ;- )

  11. The problem, Glenn aka mercer here, is the absence of notion and understanding what time is for the matter of motion pictures.

They never read a few mandatory ones before to even dare to pronounce anything subject-related (and I wouldn't even mention some other contribution already cited earlier here) but they feel themselves entitled to talk about things some other ones devoted their entire life to.

"The photographer proceeds, via the intermediary of the lens, to a point where he literally takes a luminous imprint, a cast... [But] the cinema realizes the paradox of moulding itself on the time of the object and of taking the imprint of its duration as well."

Reality is not art, but a realist art is one that can create an integral aesthetic of reality.

"Photography does not create eternity, as art does; it embalms time, rescuing it simply from its proper corruption."
