Trankilstef reacted to ntblowz in Panasonic in trouble?

Z-cam is also in trouble.. interesting to see Z-cam use the same chip powered by Huawei phone... is that why they can do 4k 160p on the same sensor as bm4k & gh5s due to brute power of their cpu?

An indie feature film shot in anamorphic using the Panasonic S5 :

They're all relatively wide shots, so not too taxing for IBIS. As long as you're using it to steady handheld shots, like here, I'm sure it'll be fine. But Wong's videos show that it's just not a substitute for a gimbal in the same way that a GH5 or S1 might be - if you really need to do a walking shot but don't have a gimbal.
I'm impressed by the highlight retention in the market scene - mixed light, low light and garish light sources that tend to blow out are all handled nicely and it looks very natural.

I already have the 24-70 f2.8 and waiting for the primes that will be released by november. And I also have a 5 lenses kit of Samyang cinema lenses that I use on paid projects on my S1H.
But what interest me in the 16-35 f4 is that its aperture is constant and it's kind of small, matching the small size of the S5. Also for me, f4 (and sometimes f5.6) is the sweet spot for shooting video in Full Frame in manual focus, it has that FF look with a little bit of blur in the background without being too hard to pull focus.
So perfectly fine for me. i'd rather compromise a bit on the size than on the constant aperture compared to the 20-60.

I have the Sigma with my S1H and it works really great. I think it's the best option right now.

Cliff, I think Panasonic still has great images, great color, a great LOG and LUTS, and the stabilization is still superior. I still don't care for Sony colors---even in what I've seen from the A7sIII. They're still on the bottom, with Panasonic, Canon, Nikon and Fuji on top--take your choice. This S5 looks great for hand held shooting. I'm really looking forward to using it.
I think Panasonic is positioned well among the pack....and I believe they can move up. If they did phase detect AF people would switch to them in droves. They're competitive in video even without it...and they don't overheat.

Ok so the price for the S5 is 2000 euros , then 1500 -600 euros for the Panasonic 16-35 = 2900 euros for the Panasonic S5 + Panasonic 16-35 f4 + Sigma 45mm f2.8 (FREE) !
I think it's worth it !
In europe the prices are 2300 euros for Panasonic + 20-60, check for yourself here : https://www.digit-photo.com/PANASONIC-Lumix-S5-20-60mm-f-3-5-5-6-rPANASONICDCS5KEK.html

Maybe not in the UK as all I see on the CVP website is the free Sigma 45mm or free XLR1 MICROPHONE ADAPTER offer. So yeah maybe not outside EU.

-1 on the S1H equals 0 on the S5 and S1 😉
No issues with ghosting or smearing.

I think i'll pass on the 20-60 wich seems great for a kit lens but I'll end up buying it with the cashback offer on lenses.
I think buying it with the 16-35 f4 wich gives you a 600 euros cashback and still having the 45mm from Sigma for free, it's quite a good deal. If I need more range I still have my Panasonic 24-70 f2.8.
The 16-35 f4 is not large by any means so it pairs well with the S5 in my opinion. My personal kit would be the S5 and those two lenses I think :

Andrew,
Thanks for your comments on the S5. I can't wait to see and read your final assessment of the S5.
Seeing all the reviews it strikes me the S5 is what the S1 should have been all along-----at least for video. Also, BIG NEWS: the peaking does not verschwand before my eyes. THANK YOU, Panasonic.
From the footage I've seen from reviewers on youtube the image quality and colors---skin tones--look lovely....Panasonic may be taking the cake for best color, just love it.
It's capabilities make, in my mind, a needed correction for the excessive number of frame rates in the S1H----plus, no fork lift is required to shoot the S5. And it's getting RAW and Cinema 4k later this year? Is that right?
Amazing.
Besides, the new battery I understand the S5 can also use the standard GH5 battery. Is that right?
For me, a fully manual video shooter, this is the most exciting offering of the season. It clicks all my boxes, and the few it doesn't click---well, they weren't all that critical anyway. I'm seriously considering going all in with Panasonic at this point.

Just saw we also have this promo too, this paired with 20-60mm is good enough for starter.

This camera seems to be an image quality monster like the S1H, if the 150mbit 10bit codec is as stellar or the same as on the GH5. And, Varicam image quality. A few of us are still talking about autofocus a lot when we already could assume it would not be much better. That I find missing the point of this 10bit image machine.
This is a indie cinema filmmakers camera dream come true. A full frame GH5 with full VLog. A varicam for your backpack. I tested the high iso noise reduction of the S1 in its 709 modes and HLG 75mbit. It looks to my eye pretty much non existent on a big monitor. To users like Dennis alias deezid of course it is still there. And I am happy he has a keen eye on image quality like no other forum member. Btw, for 1999 EU you can get this cam with a Sigma 45 2.8 until September 30th in Europe. If no other caveheats showing up, perfect release, except micro hdmi.
Wait, what has Panasonic thought, no fun with external monitors! No fun with focus pulling. Wow, at the end of my rambling I must admit, due to the micro hdmi it is not the indie cinema filmmakers dream come true. GH5 still is. But it is an image quality lovers dream come true. Darn, no full HDMI. How, excuse me, silly does that look. Would have been a perfect release with one. Really dig that tasty image quality as shown in Potato Jets review:

I should receive mine real soon (it is in transit), I will test it really soon cause I will have some run and gun shooting coming in the next weeks. I bought it purposely for these kind of situations when I want/need to go light and don't want to deal with my mattebox and if I need to be on a low profile to shoot on the streets. I have some variable circular NDS but I never liked circular VNDs always some issues and the fact to have several diameters for my lenses is problematic. My mattebox is quite light (Polarpro Basecamp Mattebox) but I want to be even lighter than this sometimes 😉

XT-40 seems most likely, that model always follows the flagship XT by 6-8 months or so. Its about time to give it an update too with a better EVF and some body refinements.
