  1. Drones are not toys. To disturb firefighter planes with your drone you must be an asshole.

  2. As an American I can tell you we fret about many trivial things and are lax regarding the profound, but there are indeed idiots that fly these things without much consideration. They are dangerous in a way, but I feel this is more newsworthy as an item of media paranoia than a serious peril to anything. Keep in mind this sort of thing is a way for politicians to "get tough" on a perceived ambitious threat --that, oh by the way, just so happens to be an industry that doesn't have any lobbyist dollars to tell them otherwise...or any type of social traction. It's a soft target. That's the pragmatic political reason these quads are destined to be regulated drastically. If for some reason the nomenclature for these things was "Remote Controlled Model Helicopters" or "RCMH's" rather than the loaded word "Drones" I doubt this would even be much of a public interest story, to be honest.

  3. A music video that I directed for my band T-Slam.We're about to play a big concert with the Israeli Symphony Orchestra of Rishon, so we decided to have fun with the classical theme.Shot with the GH4, Natural profile, Helios 44-2 with a poor man's Speedbooster and a Lumix 12-35mm/f2.8 lens.Edited with FCPX 10.2

    gx7...still good?

Thanks to everyone, today I decided to buy the GX7 but the offer in the store was gone...I'll wait till next week for the amazon prime day and then I'll probably pick the a5100 because right now is cheaper.

The GX7 is nice. Definitely better quality video than the A5100, more detailed.

  7. weird that full frame pixel binning is so much faster than one-to-one sampling of the middle of the sensor. Would have thought it'd be the other way round

  8. If possible, they should implement an altitude governor for drones.

Bigger sensor but also bigger megapixel count.. so the noise and DR is about the same in both cameras. The evf on the GX7 is pretty crap imo but because its tiltable you can actually use it in a unique way by getting a Manfrotto Pixi http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81M38qFcN-L._SL1500_.jpg you can rest the legs against your chest and rotate the camera's EVF up so you can look into it comfortably and get stable shots. That's how this was made

    4k to 1080

If you reduce resolution without increasing bit depth, you are just throwing away color depth information. Do you think that Technicolor, FotoKem and DeLuxe are using NLEs to down-convert studio features, or do you think that they try to retain as much color depth info as possible?

  11. Here is a 4k version. I'm inclined to agree with tugela's appraisal of the camera for the most part. Most of these shots were over exposed and relied on the auto focusing system to pull focus. I wish I had more personal time to shoot on it during the wedding vs the lesser experienced shooter because if not properly exposed the footage will be softer than normal...but not h264 soft. You have to set the ND filter and then dial in the exposure and ISO and it's not intuitive. It's no where near as sharp as GH4 4k footage. I also agree with the Johnnie Behiri review of this camera in that you have to fiddle with it to get the best footage out of it. I don't dislike the footage but I definitely would not recommend it as a primary camera.

  12. Exactly. Atleast they're listening. Take Olympus. We've voiced our concern about 30p only with the E-M1 from day one. To this date, they haven't done anything for video except pehaps ironically including the following: 'You wanted better video? We're giving you worse!', like... Olympus, why don't you just straight up spit in my face already.

  13. I really liked it. Great tension, nice shots and sequences, good sound! One thing I didn't like so much: the slomo shot at 1:06. I think it breaks the pace of that scene. The slomo around 1:40 fits better (because of the sound), but maybe it would be better to end the running scene with the slomo instead of speeding it up again. Just a thought, not sure how that would actually turn out.
