As rumoured in February, Pentax have taken a real gamble here. They are asking themselves: what do DSLR buyers like most about the format? We told them but they didn’t listen! The D5100 has all the same live view problems as the D7000, one bug has even been around since the D300 and they haven’t fixed it. The D7000 meanwhile just had a firmware update, which doesn’t fix anything.

The Canon 600D review – or should I say, the Canon 60D review revisited. There is no denying that the 600D is a very similar camera but that it also brings some new features not seen in the 550D or 60D, especially for video.
When the D5100 was leaked shortly before the official announcement which just occurred in Canada, the specs had video down at 30p. It now seems the new Nikon has a few significant features which we weren’t aware of from the leaked information. It does have a 24p ‘cinema mode’ The codec is ‘AVC-HD H.264’ – note the dash!
