Sounds like potentially the best plan.

I am potentially thinking about getting a GH4 or G7 as a B-cam now. I wonder if Sage's Alexa lut would work decently well with the older Cine-D

Its also as expensive as an S5 with larger files.

That electronic ND is the best though, really wish it was in every camera.

Never mind. I realize now that you mean for the SIII, not the DC6.

If shooting in Vlog on the S1, the colors on the G85 aren't really going to be doing you any favor in terms of matching. Of course you could shoot both in CineD. Fast lenses are a good option to workout low light limits on M43 but good fast glass is expensive. Cheaper lenses that are super fast are generally not the most usable wide open. But I guess again the question is do you actually need low light performance for interviews?

The audio on the top handle isn't a big deal for me. You still have scratch audio and I never use an on camera mic with a gimbal. Usually would have an audio guy with a separate recorder, which is usually the case for anything.

The GH5 is your cheapest and best bet. Of course it can't keep up with the S1 beyond 3200 iso and the dynamic range is more limited. However dynamic range isn't as important for say a close up B cam shot and I am guessing you usually light your interviews.

The Fuji is a great deal and the image is a step up from the GH5 but the record limits suck for interviews.

If you can get a used GH5 for under 1k I think its a good option. The 25mm 1.7 might be a good option. The rokinon/samyang 12mm f2 is a good wide angle option if can deal with a manual lens.

The Viltrox is a fine option. Wide open the viltrox is soft that is the one downside. Lens Turbo speedboosters are the best in terms of low budget ones, but they are fully manual.

Vlog L and Vlog do not match but its certainly closer than SLOG vs VLOG or Vlog vs FLOG or any other log.

The FX9 IQ is great. If its like that except with a A7S3 sensor, that would be nice.

Yeah just small things like choosing the right DOF for the type of shot you are doing and the feel you want.

I'd say locations may be the most important thing. Some locations you hardly have to do anything to, they just look good. Same with actors too honestly. Some actors have a Hollywood look and of course having actors who can deliver lines professionally is huge.

Sony all the way if it wasn't for the damn noise reduction. I'd probably still buy Sony over Canon as I am not going to deal with record limits or artificial overheating limits.

Detail is an issue though. If you really want to punch in a lot the R5 will be way better. Again though its the damn cripple hammer.

How about the Panasonic S1/S5/S1H/S1R instead

Nice job. Looks a tad oversharpened though and I am not sure  how effective those blurred shots are, looks a bit too artificial.

I think its very shot dependent. I used the S1 with a 35mm lens on a gimbal and it looked fantastic. It was a slower shot though without much if any panning. The main use for IBIS for me is more like getting stable more static handheld shots. IS can accomplish this too but I'd rather use my Canon FD glass or Sigma primes rather than a Canon AF lens or something.

Yeah I mean Z-cam is doing it almost. They just need their E-ND to be widely available.

I agree. On the other hand the Panasonic S1 is pretty phenomenal. I don’t take stills often but I did recently on the S1 and couldn’t believe how detailed they were. I can’t imagine needing more.

My biggest worry with Z-cam is if the company went under. Otherwise they are super responsive to problems and the Facebook group is very quick to respond.

Compared to say blackmagic I feel like they are more on top of the wants of their customers. They already have an internal E-ND option out where as blackmagic still has yet to put anything like that out. Unlike other camera companies they are giving us the full capabilities of the Sony sensors everyone is using. Also the Z-cam doesn't take 23 seconds to boot like the komodo lol.

But yeah I would say the C70 is easily more compact. You don't actually really need anything to shoot with it. On the other side if you are going to use an external monitor (maybe because you want to see something in bright sunlight), something like the Z-cam or Komodo makes more sense.

btw I am an owner of the E2 S6 and original E2.

I imagine Sony will release an A74 with a traditional 24mp sensor and 10 bit color. Maybe

I highly recommend the GHAlex LUT. Its a bit pricey but it feels like a different camera after using that LUT. Panasonic color is a bit trash but so is pretty much every other company besides Arri and maybe Canon lol.

The Panasonic S1 is hard to beat for the price especially a used one.

The camera automatically switches to APSC mode when using S35 glass at least if the glass is modern with electronics. Honestly S35 mode looks great though.

He has a direct to 709 conversion as well as Log-C. Ive personally used lut Calc and GHalex. They definitely produce different results. He also has a specific version for Premiere as well as under and overexposure LUTs. I highly recommend.

You honestly can't go wrong with any system.

Panasonic's full frame line up which is now supporting 12 bit RAW out is really compelling. Full Frame 422 and 12 bit RAW at a $2k price point.

Canon though pricey has a wide range of very reliable and ergonomic choices with some of the best color science and auto focus.

RED has entered into the affordable market with the Komodo which gives you global shutter and 16 bit linear RAW.

Sony is maybe a bit behind but the A7S3 is pretty compelling with high quality 4k up to 120fps in a small body all in full frame with no crop and 10 bit 422 also 12 bit prores RAW out.

Z-cam is offering very ergonomic and affordable bodies ranging anywhere from M43 to Full frame with internal Prores, RAW, and Prores RAW out. Interchangeable mounts and easy to manage power solutions make it a very good option.

Blackmagic though less ergonomic in general offers affordable cameras with one of the best internal codecs out there, BRAW. 12 bit compressed RAW that edits better then almost anything else.

Can you really go wrong these days?
