I think I know the reason, why Nikon bought Red. I'm very sure they did it just to piss this guy off. He sounds like someone just cut his mullet off. 😊 I like Mike. But seeing and especially hearing him was hillarious. "I am pissed."😂 He just bought an Epic btw.

My guess is that the core RED stuff will remain largely unchanged for a time.  It'd be hard for any business not to love those margins.  I think the writing's been on the wall for a little while now, though, that aside from patent IP, RED's time as a viable company is limited.  Competition from cameras that cost 1/4 of their prices gets stiffer every year.

Otherwise, as others have said, I'd guess that Nikon will now roll out compressed raw to a bunch of their bodies and as soon as they can, end Canon's ability to add compressed raw to any new bodies (is it too late for the R5 II?).
Guess I'll start paying more attention to Nikon now...

There’s nothing wrong with wanting longer record times - it’s too bad Fuji didn’t include a socket for the fan that works with the xh2s and the gfx100 II (both of which, ironically, don’t really seem to be prone to overheating).  It’s totally valid to say that you record long clips and that a camera which overheats after 10 minutes isn’t for you and it’s equally valid to feel disappointment that a newer camera doesn’t include all of the features and upgrades that you hoped for.

Luckily we live in a time when there are lots of fantastic cameras on the market and you can choose one that fits your preferences/needs (like your Ricoh)!  😄

    This is a ridiculous post.
What is the context? There are some situations with some camera/lens combinations in which AF is undoubtably superior. Indeed, AF can make shots which would be hard if not impossible with MF straightforward. There are, equally, some situations when MF is perfect. I prefer MF lenses but I regret that preference time after time - there are things I’d like to do but don’t have the talent or skills or resources to do with MF.
To make a blanket statement about your experience with no context is nonsense.
Your scoop is possibly better used to serve mashed potato.

What disappoints you, what were you hoping for?
40MP and IBIS seems very cool!
And for the video geeks, 10-bit 6.2K 30p, 4K 60p, or FHD 240p video recording.
Built in 4 stop ND filter is nice too.
Being able to work with Frame.io is another new thing too.

As I'm sure you know and you just misspoke, you need an external drive for 12bit 4K, not an external recorder. You can shoot internal 12bit 1080p, but ML Raw has an undeniably better IQ, in all respects, than the FP's FHD.
I agree about the IBIS, but I don't really see a point for ML Raw with the R5? You can already shoot internal raw. But all of the Canon IBIS cameras are Digic X, so it will be a long time before they break that code.
It will be interesting to see what they can do with the EOS-R and hopefully the M50. I'd actually be really happy if they were able to enable continuous MLV raw on the 5D4.
But I'm still really impressed with what the 5D3 with ML Raw and a Canon IS lens is capable of handheld. So maybe I'm just easily impressed.

Great news and I hope they can concentrate on EOS R and the mirrorless cameras, as the DSLRs don't appeal to me any more. I have my doubts the 7D Mark II will do 4K RAW... EOS R on the other hand, much more promising.

FWIW, the debate about USB audio may be irrelevant - the write up on newsshooter says that they plan to add a dedicated 3.5mm ltc time code port and 3.5mm mic and headphone jacks.
Overall, it looks pretty cool to me.  If they really can deliver it at less than $1k, I’ll likely be a customer.

Look at The Tiger King. There was tons of old MiniDV, interlaced footage they definitely profited from. It couldn't be further from Netflix specs. Content is king. 😉
I've also seen stuff. Usually, great ideas originate from junior or female managers. Almost always, their ideas are poo-pooed by a senior manager, only to be taken up later with a different "wording" by said senior manager. Classic.
Personally, I think this is better new than Panasonic shutting down one or the other division. Who knows? They might find a way to rid themselves of some unneeded employees.
I find it amusing they'll start on April first 2024.
I'm fairly sure the GH2 was the camera that started all of this. Once hacked, it was getting comparable results to DVX series of cameras. The shit must have hit the fan at that point. I'm fairly sure, starting from the GH4, they had reps from the pro video division having their say about what becomes "consumer" and what doesn't.

Is there that big of a market for people that are hired by Netflix to make content and want to shoot on $2k cameras as the a cam?  Their approved list is only for content they produce in-house.  If you want to sell a film to Netflix, you can shoot it on anything you want - and you can shoot some percentage of footage on non-approved cameras as well.

    Thanks all ...  I've ordered a T9 2Tb.
    Rationale:
Tried and tested brand and series I was concerned that the odd shape of the T9 would be a problem (the T5 and T7 can fit into a slot for camera mounts) but I figured that it's so common that people will make some kind of mount for it T9 wasn't much more expensive than older generations but will be more future-proofed In case anyone is curious about the business case and stakeholder management aspects, I explained it to the wife using this argument:
I tried editing the honeymoon trip from the HDDs I have, but they can't keep up I have an SSD, but it's not big enough to hold the whole trip The SSD I have is still a great performer, even though I bought it many many years ago, so they last Apple charges $600 per TB for their internal SSDs, external ones are a fraction of that and transfer from one computer to the next I just got paid, so......

I had backed the original E1 on Kickstarter or whatever and I kept it around for a while.  I only rarely used it, though, and every time I did, I was disappointed.  It was basically a Micro 4/3 sensor attached to an action camera chipset.  The colors were a bit odd and the dynamic range was extremely limited - with only rudimentary tools for validation of exposure.

I'd say that if you're willing to go for that sort of compromise, you might also consider something like a Sony QX1, assuming that the app still exists for it.  I think Olympus pulled the app for the Air.  The QX1 can only do 1080, though.

If you don't need autofocus and don't care too much about sensor size, you might also consider Back Bone's modified RX0 Mark II.  Then you should be able to get 4kP30 from its 1" sensor (and I think it has a decent HDMI out without insane latency, but maybe I'm wrong?) - and I think it also has a flippy screen.  That'll be the smallest still-shipping 4K camera with interchangeable lenses, I think - though the price is high for what it is.

Similarly, I have the Insta360 One R 1" edition modified by them with a Micro 4/3 mount - that gives a 1" 5.3k sensor.  The only thing that keeps it from being one of the most fun cameras of all time is the lack of HDMI which means focusing on the little screen on the brain or using the smartphone app over wifi.

Since computers transitioned to SSDs, the memory swapping mechanisms (where they put a chunk of memory onto the drive and load another one into RAM when needed) have become very useful and quite high performance.
If FCPX is running out of RAM, I wonder if your SSD is running out of swap space somehow.  I'm not exactly sure how you'd check these things, but that's worth looking into.
A few suggestions..  if your SSD is close to being full, try clearing some extra space and seeing if that helps performance.  I'd suggest reviewing FCPX settings to see if there's a setting that limits how much swap space it is allowed to use.  Do a google on FCPX RAM usage - I just did a search and there's lots of threads of people talking about it, so there might be good tips in there that might help.
Also, some folks report that having files (like source media, proxies, etc) on an external drive rather than the internal drive can improve performance too.  I'm not sure of your current setup but that's something to check.
Good test, but it might not be enough.  With all these companies building in AI to their software now I suspect that RAM requirements might gradually balloon over the next years as they integrate this stuff.
This is likely to be the same with CPU/GPU as well.  Resolve has quietly introduced a number of AI functions for things like NR and frame interpolation and audio processing etc, and I can tell you these things absolutely KILL your computer.  I'm talking where you have it on "Faster" and you can do 24fps, on "Better" and it can do 20fps, and then "Enhanced" (which is the AI one) and it can only manage a frame every few seconds, and will crash 8 times out of 10 trying to export the project.
If you can, I suggest giving yourself some head room in the specs, especially as you can't upgrade them later!

If buying a newer Mac, before buying it, load up the maximum number of things that you expect to be doing at a time and actually use the computer with all of them running for a bit.  Then you can go into Activity Monitor and see how much RAM is in use.  But at least that much and if possible, buy the next step up.  With how fast processors are these days, there's a good chance that with the extra RAM, you will have a computer that you'll still be happily using in a few years.  That and avoid the smallest SSD, as it usually has half the performance of all of the others.
