colepat got a reaction from tomsemiterrific in Fuji X-T4
It really does sound too good to be true. But again, Fuji gave us the XT3 and that camera is a dream (the only reason I didn't buy it after trying was lack of IBIS and flip screen).
When I was using the XT3 I tried out the 23mm f/2 and 16-55 f/2.8 both were super reliable and a joy to use.

Apple should make a FCPX Lite for the iPad that allows you to preview footage, mark, cut, trim, favorite, and keyword footage and then bring it into FCPX on Mac with a few clicks and the iPad within a couple feet of the desktop Mac. Like a seamless project airdrop.
It would make categorizing and find your selects in the field much easier when its fresh.

Panasonic should just use IR or ultrasonic AF to satisfy the 0-10 meters vlogging scenario and use DfD for the rest if there is some conspiracy against them using PDAF.

colepat reacted to kye in What cameras are you currently shooting with?
That's how I shoot all the time, grabbing a quick shot then running to catch up. Or getting shots of the family while they're doing their thing. For me the strengths of the GH5 really help with that. IBIS for walking while shooting (trying to simultaneously do the ninja walk and also not walk into a pole or anything) or for standing and grabbing a faux tripod shot. The 10-bit for being able to significantly push the image due to no control of lighting and little to no time to work the scene. Etc... My other approach is just to get volume, as not only does it mean you get lucky more often, but the practice increases your hit rate too.
Here's some random GH5 shots from filming at the speed of life...

Good to see such loyalty round here. So many Panasonic users ?
Maybe I should concentrate on more GH5 coverage.
I have been more focussed on the full frame cameras since a few years ago now.
GH5S and GH5 deserve more articles.

Eh, an external battery + MixPre3 + VariND is still less hassle, easier to add, and more compact than adding a gimbal to replace the lack of IBIS. (although of course a gimbal would be ultimately more powerful than IBIS)

Slog 2 S gamut 3 Cine, converted to Slog 3 with the Resolve color space transform tool, then I used a lutify rec 709 conversion lut.
Lutify creative lut added after. I zoomed into to like 100% and did see a little bit of chroma noise.

I will try to get you some later.
The footage I have was mostly shot with an ND filter and that might affect the colors a bit. So will probably want to shoot some new footage for you.

Would anyone be willing share some SLOG or HLG footage for me to mess around with grading? I want to see if I like the looks I can get.

Shoot. If this is a XT-3 with IBIS and flip screen YouTube will implode.

Sony car: super fast, super range, all the tech, only ugly paint color options.
Nikon car: great tech, durable, promised features like "external batteries for extended range" never actually get released.
Panasonic car: best suspension, most efficient, doesn't let you look through the windshield when using the accelerator.
Canon car: super sexy, built like a tank, "dual focus" lane-keep assist, can't go faster than 10 mph. After firmware update it can go faster than 10mph but only if you never touch the steering wheel.

I used to have the MK I and had no issues in video mode. Great lens.

They are already hitting limits with the gyroscope sensitivity (Olympus has said the electronics are needing to be so sensitive that the earths magnetic field becomes a problem) on the latest IBIS tech in the EM1X. Adding this “smart” EIS in addition to the IBIS seems like a logical improvement.
I would say it’s pretty high on the list, if not at the top.
People I know bought the GH5 for the unlimited 4K recording in ALL-I and the IBIS.
People buy Olympus for the supreme ability to hand hold a 800mm lens and nail shots of wildlife.
It allows something like the tiny EM5 mark 3 to take hand held 50MPx high resolution shots with slower moving subjects.
I would say the super power of MFT is the IBIS. It was designed for it from the birth of the mount. The smaller sensor makes it much easier to reach the 7.5 stops of stabilization in the EM1X, for example. I doubt it’s as easy to do that with a larger sensor.
In the “bigger is better” days of camera sensors we live in today it would be wise for MFT manufactures to play the strengths of the system. Stabilization IS the big one.
I could imagine a day where a GH6 or a EM1.3 is capable of shooting 6K video with near Steadycam levels of stabilization with near zero levels of fuss—or taking 50MPx or 80MPx handheld shots for portraits, street, wildlife, or landscape from a compact “small”, “low” MPx sensor that has amazing readout speeds with zero or very subtle motion artifacts.
A smaller sensor is a trade-off. Sony at least has mitigated the lowlight sensitivity / high ISO performance of MFT sized sensors. What is left is now trading shallow depth of field for all of the things I stated above. I’ll take that trade.

Sorry for the thought dump.

I own the Panasonic 12-35 MK II which I would use it with , but I am more interested in using it with some vintage lenses and Tilta Nucleus M. Sounds like we will get support for both when released, which is great!
This can’t come soon enough and if there is a kickstarter, let us know here first , so we can give you our money to help speed development.

I'm up to something that could yet result in the GH5 not needing to have to use gears and motors either....

colepat reacted to Video Hummus in Panasonic GH6
I think they have an incredible high bar to meet so they are taking their time.
The GH series cameras from the beginning are all about pushing the limits.
I don’t need HFR 4K. I want practical features. Improved IBIS, recording to SSD via USB-C, USB-C power delivery, better DR, internal ND, improved weather sealing.
A GH6 with these features and the 10-25 f/1.7 or a speedbooster with a vintage lens would be an absolute beast. An internal ND + speedbooster would be very compelling for even FF zealots.
Removing the shutter, and replacing it with some kind of ND unit would be the single best thing they could do!
Sensor readout speeds on MFT are really good. Just have electronic shutter for GH6 and the future photo-centric G9/G10/G11 or whatever can keep the shutter.
AF, eh, I’m fairly happy now. Would I like PDAF? Yes, of course but I’ll take next gen DfD too if I get an internal Nd solution.
Please don’t repeat another GH6S debacle. I would say they would do better to minaturise the EVA1 to fill the role of any potential GH6S.
