  1. Another solid release. Interesting they are going to include a 5K cropped RAW mode. I'm not particularly interested in external recorders at the moment, especially on cameras that have micro-HDMI directly off motherboard. Just asking to brick your camera because of a shitty cable.
  2. In Sony Semiconductor Imaging's laboratory.
  3. This "DFD is much improved" is worst than a Dragon Ball Z episode. Panasonic still charging the spirit bomb it seems.
  4. Lots of potentially exciting cameras coming from Canon R3, "R5c", R1. My dream RF camera would be smaller than C70 but still have internal ND, FF DGO sensor (RAW not that important for me if its DGO), EVF, 4" flip screen. If there is no EVF for the love of god put a large, bright, robust screen on the camera! If it takes photos that is a bonus.
  5. I have owned the R5 since December of 2020. I can't speak to the IDXIII, having never owned one, but I do have access to an R6 and have been playing around with that camera for several weeks now. I still prefer having the R5 over the R6 even after latest FW update for the R6. Mostly because R5 has: 4K 120fps that looks great 8K Canon RAW Lite 45MP stills that look absolutely amazing Custom video modes! Hitting record button in photo mode switches to C3 video (It's switches to fully auto mode in R6, yuck). I use 3 custom settings: 4KHQ 24fps, 4K120, 4K non-HQ on C3. Hitting record button in photo mode jumps to this setting. The R6 is pretty good but still inexplicable crippled in weird ways–the lack of custom video modes being the biggest one imho. This has been the single biggest pain in the ass when using the camera. You simply can't use it very fast when switching between 24fps or 120fps. Battery life on the R6 seems to be better than the R5 in cursory usage. I haven't thoroughly tested. Rolling shutter on R6 leaves a lot to be desired. Much prefer the 4K120 out of the R5 to the 1080 from R6. R6 AF shits the bed in moderate low-light situations compared to R5. The R5 has a much better 1.6x video crop mode. Overheating has not been an issue for me (on either camera) but I don't shoot long form stuff and if I did I would just use the regular 4K mode or a proper cinema camera. Sony is still the better option if you want a small mirrorless camera to record for longer periods of time and with quick recovery times. Editing performance has not been a problem whatsoever on my M1 MBP. I hear it's painful for a lot of people so if that is you don't get a Canon mirrorless camera until there is widespread support for hardware accelerated H.265 10-bit 4:2:2. I'm still very happy with getting the R5 over the something from Sony. A7SIII is great but I wanted more MP if I was going FF as I was coming from Micro Four Thirds. I also enjoy the Canon body ergonomics more than Sony and that is pretty important aspect for me. Things I don't like about RF system as a whole (at time if writing): Lack of wide angle fast primes (16,18,20mm f1.8 or faster) The RF lens ecosystem is expensive (but there is always EF). No RF Sigma options...yet. Overheating timer is there and could potentially be a problem (it hasn't been for me). Really surprised Canon is releasing major firmware updates with major features. I hope they continue this.
  6. I'm sure @Matt Perks will do it as well as add brass accents somewhere.
  7. You can see 1 stop extra retention on the scopes. In the real world I see more detail in the shadows (with more noise on R5) as well as better roll off from highlights to shadows than C-Log 1 (especially noticeable on a face). C-Log 1 aggressively clips shadow detail. C-Log 3 a great match for R6, I think. Now if they will fix the custom mode situation it will feel like a $2500 camera.
  8. Oh, gotcha. In the case you provided MF is the right tool to use. No arguments there. A7III AF pretty mediocre compared to latest Sony cameras.
  9. Navigate it to the subject you want to track, press select, it then tracks a box on the object and maintains continuous focus on it. I then can pretty much concentrate on framing and camera movement. It works well and is nice to have. Why companies don't sell battery grips with features like this is beyond me. Battery grip with extra battery and 32-bit float audio in/out, maybe even wireless option to maintain weather sealing.
  10. Yes, I use the custom settings on R5 all the time and in my GH5S before it. I’ve watched Andrew’s video about the R6 and it’s short comings but even after played around with it my brain is so use to setting up custom video settings for C1-3 that I was still surprised. Makes the R6 feel like an RP to be honest.
  11. You simply use the joystick or virtual joystick to put focus point on target and then press select. You don’t even need to take it down from your face when using EVF. Also it’s not hard for me to rotate my right hand back on the grip and have my thumb able to tap the screen when it’s folded flat against the body. That’s a neat little setup, BTW.
  12. Dual card slot recording is a awesome surprise. You know what is less awesome…not being able to use C1-3 for video. My daughter got an R6 the other day. I was shocked to find out this is the case. Bummer.
  13. Nope, you don’t. I didn’t say a camera needed it. We didn’t say it replaced manual focus. But yes, it’s a great feature to have for unrehearsed shooting. It did a much better job than I could have on the fly. I don’t shoot TV shows or movies with 5+ people on set. I’m just a dude with a camera that enjoys great tracking autofocus. I don’t think it should replace any bodies job in those roles but I want it in my mirrorless camera.
  14. Pretty good when you have tap-to-track AF. I use this with R5 and it works really well. For instance, my wife was combing for sea shells at the beach. I was low to the ground at 70mm f2.8. I simply taped on LCD on her hand and it put a box on it and tracked her hand as she was moving it toward and away from the camera. It worked flawlessly in that situation and the effect of the focus racking with her hand was pleasing. Panasonic should aim for something similar. It's not a tool to use on absolutely everything but when it does work it is one last thing your brain has to do.
  15. Also there seems to be a possibility Samsung and Olympus/OM-D (JIP) could be working on a partnership. Most likely JIP selling M.Zuiko brand/lenses for use on new Samsung smartphone cameras. Would be nice to see OM-D get new Samsung tech in their cameras.
  16. Sure what whatever is fastest. That would be the aim for a real review without any outside pressure. So, yes.
  17. As long as the review system relies on receiving review units early this problem will only get worst. Nobody is going to bite the hand that feeds them. Because eventually you will slip off the priority review gear list, and then not be invited to special events, and eventually receive nothing at all. Why? Because it’s marketing and they by definition are seeking a ROI. Simply stop taking free gear from companies to review and buy it on the market. Review it and be as brutally honest as you want. Re-sell to reduce losses and make up the balance wnd some profit with donation/memberships/subscriptions.
  18. Thats why I'm hoping there is no overheating with this camera but there probably will be because they want to sell their C70.
  19. C-Log 2 is kinda included when shooting internal RAW video. Even on the R5, the RAW has more detail in the shadows. There is noise there but it can be cleaned up and an extra stop or so achieved. R5 with C-Log 3 is great. No complaints here. Yes, I'm very interested in this camera as video-centric hybrid if it doesn't have deal breaking overheating limits. Kinda sounds crazy but this sized camera with IBIS and optional EIS will probably preform fairly well in the field. Just don't use ultra wide FOV lenses 20mm and below.
  20. Alright so R3 is looking pretty juicy for Canon and RF users. 30.1 MP BSI stacked sensor internal RAW video Oversampled 4K w/ C-Log 3 No mention of frame rates but I would assume it does 4K120p since it has latest DigicX processor in it. 4K probably oversampled from around 6.5K and internal 6K RAW with, I’m guessing, a slight crop. Rolling shutter will probably be very, very good and DR will be improved slightly with BSI. Now where will the cripple hammer show up?
  21. Gerald released his “What Cameras are Other Youtubers Using” video and 85% of them were using A7SIII in a studio with controlled lighting. Second was A1, and then S5, R5, and RED Monstro. Maybe 10% of them would use the A7SIII out in the wild where the crazy 12,800 ISO is useful. Power of hype machine and branding dollars to spend.
  22. You can ignore them and they won’t earn a cent off your time. Life is to short to spend it churning the proverbial shit bucket again and again.
  23. Resolve has it, yes. I was hoping FCP would add those native features too. Currently FCP doesn’t have a non-plugin way of doing those two things.
  24. It will only work if there is some special sauce related to Apple hardware. Otherwise, just buy Resolve. I would still like to see a few built-in, hardware accelerated features that are included with Resolve, namely: Content-aware erase tool for video, 3D tracking of most objects via Neural Engine, a "AI" assisted color matching tool that is a 90% solution for quick and dirty color matching (I would use this for drone footage). Anything else I'm happy to have covered by plug-ins and keep the core of FCP fast and performant.
  25. Who will do it? 😄 https://kolarivision.com/product/canon-r5-cooling-mod-service/ I would consider it as a "upgrade" after my warranty is expired and I have a R5 Mk2 or R3 in arsenal or even A1 mk2.
