  1. Ebay (and PayPal) is toxic as fuck. I don't know how anybody can use it. I tried to sell some unused camera stuff a few years back and every bid I got was fraudulent and some dickhead trying to get me to send a product before PayPal payment "cleared". Meanwhile E-bay takes seller fees. 🖕🏻 The whole experience is dog shit and after that I never touched the site again. Same with PayPal. They fucking suck too. If you factor in the time and stress, @Andrew Reid, that you had to deal with you are out much more than £1754.
  2. I believe this is Japanese but even without understanding anything I can tell it was a way better "review" or hands-on than DPReview did. Yes, I have nothing against information style videos like Gerald did. I quite enjoy CVP much more as they actually use the camera and offer feedback. Gerald's videos are kinda like technical launch promo videos. I find the deep dives of the technical bits useful and I throw the rest away, including any buying advice. Infinitely more useful than anything from Peter McKinnon or Matti. They are now purely lifestyle channels with a camera fetish slant. When people say influencer those guys are the textbook definition. When they want something they ask or e-mail companies to send them free shit and then tell you to stay humble.
  3. I don't see the big deal. It's free content where he pretty thoroughly tells you about a camera. Use your brain to decide if its right for your artistry. Rent the gear and try it out. Andrews beef was he compared it to Sony A7R series and judged it by that and not just let it stand on its own. Perhaps Gerald should stop giving buying advise and just stick to telling you facts about operating modes and handling and use cases based on the time he had with it. The ALEXA Mini is a terrible camera when you try to shoehorn it into a consumer A7 series criteria checkbox list (no grip, no EVF, hard to hand hold) It's just a different tool.
  4. To be fair Gerald’s audience isn’t who the fp camera is for and he knows it. I was recently looking at the fp-L + tiny sigma 24mm f3.5 as a small b-cam and backup high-megapixel photo camera (electronic shutter not an issue for my use case). I agree the 61MP sensor in such a small body is pretty cool and the ability to strip it down by taking off a modular grip and EVF is attractive. Lots of options. I would still like to see a bit more ecosystem pop up before I drop some money.
  5. ZENMUSE X5S is exactly this and it is much bigger. Perhaps they can get a M43 sensor with a slightly redesigned camera module. M43 is around 24% larger. I think the sensor size is doable but the optics might be harder.
  6. Depending on how they implement the eye-controlled AF it could be really, really useful, especially in video applications. Although, it would take practice. I'm not sure how it was implemented in the EOS 3, but hopefully it is programmable to a button like back-button-focus and that it uses your eye focus as an intelligent subject focus giving it more information about what is important in the frame. Think switching quickly between two athletes in the heat of the action or wildlife/bird photography and focusing on the bird and not the grass or branches in front. Kinda like a AF limiter that narrows the amount of decisions the AF has to make to determine what it should track.
  7. Something looks off about the rendering. Perhaps a early internal mock-up design? Also, the naming. Reviving a one off EOS 3 back in the film days. Could also be they are just segmenting the market more to make sure they hit every price point because they plan on charging a hefty price for a flagship R1. Will be interesting if this is the “R5C”, ie not a real C badged Canon but basically an R5 internal specs on steroids with mechanical shutter and then the R1 will be $2000-3000 more and perhaps global shutter.
  8. Yeah, I posted it and then realized you posted just a few questions up. I had clicked on it in a new tab, forgot about it, then watched it later. Sorry!
  9. They also mention that this is strange and question if it is true RAW data as something is being processed in a certain chosen gamma.
  10. Lots of questions answered in this video about R5 RAW and CLOG3.
  11. That's why they find the wording in the manual from Canon confusing.
  12. I haven’t bought an action camera since GoPro 3. Latest phones are just as good or better and just as water proof now. But I will buy the first 8K 360 camera that has a decent image.

I think there is also the issue of "how" the RAW data is compressed not just the insanely broad "all RAW from camera compressed higher than 3:1" belongs to RED. Canon clearly has some kind of deal with RED when there is CRAW Light 8:1 in Hybrid DSLM R5. This, and the fact they fit internal NDs in RF mount flange, makes me incredible excited for future camera generations from Canon. So I find it doubtful we will see RAW in GH6. I would be really surprised. I think they should do what Sigma did and just offer uncompressed 10-bit and 12-bit RAW and develop that external storage grip solution you are proposing and have the huge file sizes countered with cheap M.2 SSD media recording. It has been forever since we heard even a whisper of a rumor about hybrid GH cameras. They are either entirely reworking the model line or they are going to kill it and focus on S series FF cameras.
  14. I think we will see it...eventually. But I also think the drone laws will get more restrictive as FPV drones become more popular.
  15. Still a shame they didn't keep the OG Air form factor. I guess that is what the Mini is now... Even if it had terrible flight time, I would rather have a small, light 1" sensor drone with 10-bit log to throw up for 5-8 mins to get unique prospective with high quality video. This also means a Mavic 3 Pro is probably coming this year as well.
  16. After CLOG3 was added I don't have many complaints. It strikes a nice balance of offering more highlight recovery than clog1 while keeping shadow noise low for easy workflow. I'm sure technically its still behind latest Sony Cameras but comparing them is starting to feel like splitting hairs in 90% of situations. Lots of other things matter after that. Plus we have compressed RAW lite now, and with a bit more effort in post, some amazing results can be achieved for a mirrorless camera (especially one from Canon). I think after stepping back and looking at the whole package that is the R5 and after having used it for several months now... It's pretty sweet. The 4KLQ thing was massively overblown it was ridiculous. People zooming in on tests charts 200% or 400% and saying it looks like crap (it does). But in the real world after YouTube compression or H264 delivery there isn't that many downsides to using it. Not to mention the RF mount ecosystem has a bright future with RED KOMODO and future cinema cameras from canon...perhaps Blackmagic will join RF too?! I would like to see cheap 20/24mm wide F1.8 primes and an updated RP with clog1 and perhaps no crop FF 4K for a replacement for the M50 style camera. A quality, powered digital hotshot mic would be nice with that setup too to keep things lean or at least open up the protocol so Røde, Deity, or Sennheiser can make products for it. R5 4KHQ, RF 24-70mm, clog3/cinema gamut.
  17. The speed ratings on the cards are for "burst" writing or reading. It's a marketing game. I will only buy from manufactures that list "max continuous/sustained" writing/reading speeds. They usually are much lower than the advertised speed and is the number that is the most important for video and high speed shooting. You also have to remember these CFExpress cards have firmware that will throttle the speed based on temperature and will routinely write slower (but still plenty fast) to keep heat down. There is no sense in writing at max speed if the data being supplied is at a relative constant rate (such as 8K video coming in at (225 MB/s).
  18. Yeah, I love the new RAW Lite but it kinda isn't worth it when the DR seems gimped even in clog2 mode. So much processing to do to clean up shadows to eek out 0.3 stops extra. The clog3 mode does offer 1 stop better highlight recovery and its worth using, especially in the 4KHQ. I've been shooting it with cinema gamut and it looks nice with the R5 Cinema Gamut CLOG3 to Rec.709 LUT. You do have to tweak the exposure quite a bit but the highlights recovery much better than clog1. They just need to fix the damn view assist.

Me too. Even if it is 5:1 or 3:1 with large file sizes. At least it will be there. Cost of media is always going down so it becomes less and less expensive to shoot. I can also see having high frame rate RAW in a GH6 beneficial for wildlife and sports. 8K60p RAW would be nice for birding/wildlife. 4K240p would be a step up and make it a large sensor high frame rate speciality camera, perhaps even 960p in 1080. I've seen great stuff done with Sony RX camera at 960fps for low budget slowmo. The 8:1 compression for RAW on R5 makes the RAW very useable imho. It's just a shame, even with clog2, that the final image is just gimped in the DR department compared to other FF cameras and the C70. I've been playing around with the clog3 mode and the more I use it the more I think it was a solid upgrade for the R5, especially for the 4KHQ mode—especially in cinema gamut.
  20. I've had no problems with my Angelbird AV Pro 256GB in any mode. They offer some of the best $/GB for CFExpress Type B. I was thinking about upgrading to their 1TB card since the released firmware to address the slow boot ups. They sure bungled the clog3 update with the view assist, wtf. What is the point of a rec709 preview if it's blown out on the screen when correctly exposed? Also, the light versions of the codecs make little sense if the 29m59s recording limits are still there! There were rumors there was a 1.3.2 firmware version for R5, hopefully it addresses this issue and makes clog3 as easy to record in as clog1.

I think the addition of Canon RAW lite to the R5 at around 8:1 compression is a big deal. It's in a Canon hybrid camera ffs. If only they would release a R5 mk2 or r5c or whatever with good dynamic range and no overheating to take advantage of it and give RED a run for their money. I think for sure GH6, if released, will be the last MFT camera from Panasonic. The only thing it has going for it would he high frame rate, high resolution video.
