  1. As a person that has a degree in computer science and experience in the industry (now left) good software is developed to share as much code base as possible. So your argument is that Canon tested 29.97 FPS to make sure it works flawlessly in their latest cameras but couldn’t put forth the pitiful amount of effort it would take to test and record 23.97 FPS? Especially when they’ve included 23.97 FPS in the past with the same models? How did canon pull off 24fps in the 6d mark ii and the original M6? It has a lessor processor, the DIGIC 7, in the same form factors. You are saying somehow canon can’t develop and test 24fps with their DIGIC 8 processor, which by the way is built on the same foundational knowledge as it’s successor the DIGIC 7, in the M6 ii ? The same DIGIC 8 processor in the M50 that SOMEHOW included 4k24p recording. You’re just trolling at this point. Please show me or find someone that can confirm your license theory. It doesn’t add up. There has been no evidence for it. Somehow every other camera manufacturer can manage to “afford” 24fps codec licensing terms. Canon can’t? They must really be fucked as a company then if they can’t afford the single frame rate every single person wants in their camera as a base. Its Canon playing shenanigans with brain dead feature segmentation.
  2. Not only that there has been no evidence posted whatsoever that their is a substantial cost in having 24p AVC codec available in a camera. None.
  3. The 0:0 aspect ratio with the Mckinnon LUT pack is the clear winner here.
  4. Well, I'll take internal ND over 120p 4k. Composite HDR would be nice, but I could see it having problems in certain situations. So I'd rather have as much natural DR as possible.
  5. I''m firmly in the camp of more DR, better ISO performance, built-in ND than more MP or 8K for the GH6. A derivative of the industrial STARVIS sensor above would be good in something like the G9 successor. I mean, the GH5 was doing open gate 5K in 2017. Just give us a global shutter sensor then remove the mechanical shutter and add a built-in ND mechanism. Include better noise performance, their next gen IBIS tech, 14-stops DR, and FULL VLOG and varicam color science to match with the S1H.
  6. Sony seems to be focused (pun intended) on getting their great tracking AF into all the latest models. It would seem to sell cameras more than 8K or 4k60p. It’s the highlight feature in every review.
  7. Surprised more people don't use zebras, especially if the camera supports having two settings. I use them almost exclusively.
  8. Are those camera/imaging division only employees? I have my doubts. Now it’s clear how blackmagic is releasing what would traditionally be $8K+ for only $2.5K.
  9. No, Sony is really great at marketing and feeding the YouTube hype machine. They just don’t have something ready yet. Sony likes to push numbers. It’s going to be an 8K camera with 4k60p WITH a crop of some sort. My guess is they don’t want to compromise on form factor. Panasonic just made it work. If they ever figure out their AF I wouldn’t buy any other camera as they get ALOT right in there gear.
  10. I agree with above. Use what you have. Maybe Canon will be releasing a Pro level FF R mount mirrorless camera in the next 8 months that will fit your needs.
  11. ...And I think this why Sony is slowly overtaking them. I honestly think Canon is just riding the consumer camera train with their brand and logo as the ticket for as long as possible with almost zero investment because there is not much profits in it anymore. When that train loses steam they will fall back on their camera patents and lens designs and license those. I find it hard to believe there is zero foresight at the management of this company. And don’t tell me it’s a Japanese thing. Other Japanese camera companies seem to get it.
  12. I always have a 8sinn cage on my GH5S and I also prefer a slightly heavier body. So, the body, with cage is close to 900 grams. The real weight savings for m4/3 is the lenses. I have: PL 50-200 655grams PL 10-25 690grams With only two lenses I have an enormous amount of coverage (20mm to 400mm) for only 1.3 Kg of lens weight. Canon 70-200f2.8 is more than 1.3Kg alone. The f4 is close to 850g. You can go lighter with primes depending on what you need. When you are hiking up a mountain or lugging around gear, this is where you love m43. And there are also lenses like the 12-100 F4 from Olympus that are basically the do it all lens at 561 grams.
  13. The EOS R was heavily marketed by influencers on YouTube who were sent free cameras. It was marketed as the ultimate YouTube vlogging camera. Which, I guess, it is considering it’s image and the total lack of power features. It was uniformly touted as “good enough”. Im not sure if this was a feedback loop or just plain old “here’s some marketing points. We told you nothing *wink*”. I don’t see why this is such a big deal. The camera doesn’t do what you want. It doesn’t have 24p. IF that is important to you then Canon doesn’t offer something in your price range. Look to other brands.
  14. Was just about to post this. Panasonic still segments but without the canon malice. Quote from Sean that I think sums it all up: “We at Panasonic make incredibly pragmatic products”. I would agree. Now fix your autofocus! He also throws some subtle shade towards Nikon about ProRes Raw coming to the S1H. They clearly took feedback from the G9, S1, and the GH5S and didn’t repeat mistakes. The on/off switch. IBIS with dual gain ISO. The flip screen and tilt screen (give the people what they want). Pragmatic codec on pragmatic media with dual slots. Great battery life. Why they stay stubborn on the AF is beyond me. It’s better but they are still taking heat from it. They need to knock that aspect out of the park.
  15. I always take what you tubers recommend with a nice heap of salt. They need to maintain relationships with these companies to get paid, whether directly or indirectly, with monies or free gear or exclusive access. They all have angles they don’t talk about. They are essentially in the advertisement business. Their job is to influenced us. This is why I come to EOSHD.
  16. @tokyojerry if you already have Olympus gear I would at least wait for the EM5-III. Should be a decent upgrade and you won’t have to buy new glass. The new Sony Axxxx cameras are new numbers and that’s about all. The rolling shutter in 4K is absolutely dreadful.
  17. L-Mount is just getting started. The ecosystem is about to explode.
  18. The S1H has the potential to be a cult Indy favorite. The price will slowly creep down. Panasonic will release firmware to keep it fresh and exciting. It has the capability to do ProRes Raw for people that want it (with extra cost and build out). It seems to have a great 6K image with a strong codec to affordable and ubiquitous SD media. It has IBIS, which is valued more in low budget Indy stuff, that can be locked down when you want to reduce the floating sensor affect. I suspect it’s capable of more. Just as the GH5 was and the GH4 before it.
  19. The 360 concept is definitely the future of action cams. They just need more resolution.
  20. Yup. I think it’s a great product from Panasonic. I was just hoping for workflow features like internal ProRes or USB-C recording and 4K 60p without a crop. Also, don’t forget that Panasonic is one of the few camera companies that actually delivers meaningful firmware updates.
  21. I’d use the WiFi app on available from Panasonic for my camera and just tap to focus.
  22. Nah, it’s all going to Apple and Samsung.
  23. Why can’t they add this the the Gh5s via firmware? If they are sitting in one spot, yes. Why would you use AF? Besides autofocus being able to see yourself in the screen helps with framing. AF won’t save your poorly framed vlogging.
  24. I’m a bit disappointed it doesn’t have internal ProRes 422 as a cinema camera and no 4K 60p 10bit with full sensor. Otherwise, it’s quite an amazing product in the usual Panasonic buffet of features. I have a feeling future firmware updates will improve upon its features. Its like the GH5 for full frame. Flip screen screen (and tilt) included WITH good IBIS. The ball is in your court Sony.
