  1. Someone needs to make a device with a USB-C port that takes the CDNG from the camera and outputs compressed CDNG to a T5 SSD in realtime.
  2. I would give the S1H some time and a few firmware updates. They've added major codec upgrades and offerings in past cameras might not be different here. I could see them adding higher bitrate ALL-I, offering full frame 4Kp60 as more competition comes out, or improve tracking AF.
  3. Love the size. Camera is underwhelming. It is a Spark replacement so not surprising. Would love a Mavic Air size with 1” camera.
  4. I’m invested in MFT at the moment. I think the yelling and screaming about the death of MFT is partisan format bullshit. I like the trade offs of the system. Newer technology is making sensor size less of a “compromise” so I look forward to seeing what’s next in this format and I reckon the GH6 will push the envelope yet again. Fujifilm is also doing great stuff with their medium format and APS-C stuff. It’s a great time to be a camera nerd.
  5. Yeah sure, If you already have any of those lenses then your set. But for $150 this is still a very nice manual only starter lens or a affordable lens for a second camera body where you don’t want to buy another Voigt.
  6. The Olympus Pro is a $1000 lens. Its 1.8 little brother $350. This lens is a complete steal for $150 and it’s tiny size.
  7. Yup. We won't see fast adoption of 4K content, let alone 8K, content because of one major fact: the cost of distribution, i.e., bandwidth. More and more broadcast services are moving away from, well, actually broadcast technology, and into IP and internet based delivery (youtube, digital cable tv, Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV etc...) the cost of distributing 8K content to millions of people adds up fast. Hence, why a lot of 4K content was behind a paywall or a more expensive service tier. I expect 8K will be the same, but even more expensive. Not to mention the fast majority of the general audience just doesn't give a shit wether their their favorite show is in 1080p or 4K. It's vastly diminishing returns after 1080p here.
  8. Wasn’t aware. B&H doesn’t have weight stats on it.
  9. Well some one should tell Canon because their new RF lenses are heavier and bigger than their EF lenses. Case and point: EF 24-70 805grams 3.48 x 4.45" / 88.5 x 113 mm RF 24-70 900grams 3.48 x 4.95" / 88.5 x 125.7 mm The RF does have OIS so I’m not sure how much that effects the size. The weight increase can be forgiven I guess.
  10. Yes, I agree. They could always use the S1H body with the active cooling and put a MFT mount in it.
  11. Well, I’m just hoping RED will release some compelling sub $5000 cameras.
  12. Well it better have 14-stops at least of DR. Achilles heal of the GH line is dynamic range. I’m really surprised the GH5S didn’t improve this more. It’s better, but maybe by only half a stop. The S1H has a solid 14 stops and it shows. Maybe we will see a GH camera with their fabled organic sensor they say is coming to LUMIX with 16 stops.
  13. We are truly spoiled for choice lately. The sigma fp looks very interesting. It's like they made this thing for the indie film guys. I actually appreciate the size. It makes the P4K/6K almost a meme. Although, this thing on those faster and huge Sigma L mount lenses kinda looks silly too.
  14. The big question is: if Canon is the only one of the big boys (Sony, Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji) to be able to do internal RAW will Canon be able to capitalize on it and not fuck it up? An EOS R successor with internal Cinema RAW Light, DPAF, and a price under $3000 would make very big waves. They would have two big exclusives: the much loved DPAF and a compressed raw codec in Cinema RAW Light. They just need to put it in a mirrorless camera. Will they? Canon reversing the stupid 24p cripple and now offering internal RAW, albeit in a DSLR and at $6000, is a big turn around. Maybe they finally realized they needed to up their game.
  15. Gimbals are annoying but there are some shots that are hard to do without them. Especially with longer focal lengths. The new Weebill S looks interesting to me but I would prefer to not have one at all! I would prefer to just grab a future GH6 or EM1.3 or an S1H2 or a EOS R mk2 and shoot the same shots with near the stability of a gimbal in 90% of circumstances. The hand held look is great and can make a scene appear more frantic or intimate but I think it’s harder to pull off well. I like somewhere in between; a smooth organic feel but not slider smooth for everything.
  16. Not a traditional specs review of any kind and no sales pitch. What a great little camera for the MFT system.
  17. Sometimes you want a second angle filming that you just leave rolling to capture an different angle of something. For the YouTube’s? It’s probably not a problem. Which is why this is a very compelling vlogging setup.
  18. 5.5 in-body 6.5 with a Sync-IS lens. I saw 6 somewhere but specs above are straight from olympus spec sheet.
  19. Thats a bummer. A used EM1.2 would suit video people more. This new EM5 is basically a mini EM1, which is a good thing in my opinion. Phase detect C-AF, super small, 4K 24p, 6 stops IBIS.
  20. I’ve looked for this before and I haven’t found it. The metadata for video files in particular is just...pathetic. I wished it saved at least: the name of the lens (if recognized), if it was a VFR video, at least the focal length the video was started at, the aperture it was started at, and shutter speed/angle it was started at. It makes using features like smart bins / keywords in NLE or using Finder keyword searches useless Maybe someone knows more? UPDATE: Apparently this tool https://sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ will allow you to see this metadata but for some reason I don't see this in Finder or in Final Cut Pro or Davinci.
  21. I care a lot about the size and weight of my kit. Basically, if it's heavy or bulky it's probably going to stay home and I will use it less. I have the 10-25/1.7 and really enjoy having a lens that can go wider than the standard 12mm on a lot of zoom lenses. Quickly grabbing a wide and then a tight 50mm shot is fast and simple. Absolutely love the manual focus clutch (Panny should adopt this design going forward like Olympus). Build quality is excellent like most of the PL line. If the weight and size of your kit is a priority the 10-25/1.7 is a great addition. People compare it a lot to the Speedbooster + Sigma 18-35mm combo but I think thats a bit myopic of a comparison as it disregards possible future (and better) MFT bodies with better AF. It's definitely a lighter setup (and more balanced) than the sigma as well. Which really matters when you need it on a gimbal or just have to carry it all day. I would replace the 12-60 and the PL25/1.4 but keep at least the 42.5 Voigtlander. Those are nice, fast primes with character. GH5 has excellent IBIS so lack of OIS in the lens really won't be a problem. In my opinion, for Panny MFT cameras and native glass, the holy trinity is the: PL 10-25/1.7, PL 42.5/1.2, PL 50-200/2.8-4 With the Olympus 12-100/4 for when you have only space for one lens. On a side note: really looking forward to getting my GH5S on the new Weebill-S gimbal with this lens. Match made in heaven, maybe?
  22. I’m really hoping Olympus takes video seriously in the EM5mk3 and the, hopefully, forthcoming EM1mk3. 10bit codec with those lovely Olympus colors and an improved 4K an 1080p image (less noise and sharpening) would be a treat. Checkout Chris Eyre-Walker for what an EM1mk2 can do. He shoots almost all his stuff handheld. I mean this video below sums up what Olympus offers. Great weather sealing, stabilization, and colors in a small package.
  23. I heard a rumor it was next to impossible to develop 24p in the software. It would have been too expensive. But then Steve in software development had a break through. boolean ENABLE24P = true;
