  1. Thats a bummer. A used EM1.2 would suit video people more. This new EM5 is basically a mini EM1, which is a good thing in my opinion. Phase detect C-AF, super small, 4K 24p, 6 stops IBIS.
  2. I’ve looked for this before and I haven’t found it. The metadata for video files in particular is just...pathetic. I wished it saved at least: the name of the lens (if recognized), if it was a VFR video, at least the focal length the video was started at, the aperture it was started at, and shutter speed/angle it was started at. It makes using features like smart bins / keywords in NLE or using Finder keyword searches useless Maybe someone knows more? UPDATE: Apparently this tool https://sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ will allow you to see this metadata but for some reason I don't see this in Finder or in Final Cut Pro or Davinci.
  3. I care a lot about the size and weight of my kit. Basically, if it's heavy or bulky it's probably going to stay home and I will use it less. I have the 10-25/1.7 and really enjoy having a lens that can go wider than the standard 12mm on a lot of zoom lenses. Quickly grabbing a wide and then a tight 50mm shot is fast and simple. Absolutely love the manual focus clutch (Panny should adopt this design going forward like Olympus). Build quality is excellent like most of the PL line. If the weight and size of your kit is a priority the 10-25/1.7 is a great addition. People compare it a lot to the Speedbooster + Sigma 18-35mm combo but I think thats a bit myopic of a comparison as it disregards possible future (and better) MFT bodies with better AF. It's definitely a lighter setup (and more balanced) than the sigma as well. Which really matters when you need it on a gimbal or just have to carry it all day. I would replace the 12-60 and the PL25/1.4 but keep at least the 42.5 Voigtlander. Those are nice, fast primes with character. GH5 has excellent IBIS so lack of OIS in the lens really won't be a problem. In my opinion, for Panny MFT cameras and native glass, the holy trinity is the: PL 10-25/1.7, PL 42.5/1.2, PL 50-200/2.8-4 With the Olympus 12-100/4 for when you have only space for one lens. On a side note: really looking forward to getting my GH5S on the new Weebill-S gimbal with this lens. Match made in heaven, maybe?
  4. I’m really hoping Olympus takes video seriously in the EM5mk3 and the, hopefully, forthcoming EM1mk3. 10bit codec with those lovely Olympus colors and an improved 4K an 1080p image (less noise and sharpening) would be a treat. Checkout Chris Eyre-Walker for what an EM1mk2 can do. He shoots almost all his stuff handheld. I mean this video below sums up what Olympus offers. Great weather sealing, stabilization, and colors in a small package.
  5. I heard a rumor it was next to impossible to develop 24p in the software. It would have been too expensive. But then Steve in software development had a break through. boolean ENABLE24P = true;
  6. Yeah. noreply@canoncustomers.com
  7. ? Press release says it’s free. EOS R 4K 1.7 crop 90D 4K 1.6 crop (full sensor) Canon is inching their way toward uncropped 4K
  8. HSL color masks is nice. Improved performance is nice. Still no built-in tracking, object removal, face tracking, audio presets and workflow. Stuff that actually saves editing time. We still have to manually keyframe!
  9. I would say the G9 and GH5S autofocus is even more competent. At 60p I think it competes with pre-eye tracking Sony hybrid AF. The A7iii shares some of the pulsing of DfD since it uses contrast AF for the “last millimeter” so to speak. So there is that jitter. S1H has improved things a lot. In certain situations, if the light source is broad (like a window, doorway, bright street light) even the DfD pulsing effect is extremely well controlled on the S1H. The bane of DfD of course is Christmas or fairy lights with all those tiny sources of light. Maybe some hope for future DfD cameras. In my experience GH5S/G9 autofocus is perfectly useable for gimbal/steadycam work where It’s pretty much essential.
  10. I wouldn't either! In my original post I was asking for f/0.95 primes with autofocus and OIS for the longer focal length varieties. Maybe an updated 42.5mm f/0.95 Nocticron, for example.
  11. I think we will see more and more of these more exotic (and expensive) MFT lenses as we already have an extensive lineup of glass from first party to third party. We will also have more people crying about it “expensive lenses”, forgetting the fact they have many many more options that they probably already own. How many 12-35 f2.8 lenses do you want? ? I would love to see more f/2 zoom lenses. Maybe f/0.95 primes with autofocus. I also don’t mind variable apertures if they allow the lens more reach, smaller size, and a lower base aperture.
  12. I think I'm going to start with some Contax Zeiss and go from there. I'm not a huge fan of the Russian Helios swirly bokeh lenses much but there are many others.

Yes, I’m well aware. But I highly doubt we will see an organic sensor based GH camera in 2020. I’m taking the more conservative speculation route of latest CMOS sensor from Sony semiconductor. Perhaps we will see an organic sensor in a GH or S camera in 2023.
  14. It’s not a secret I like my MFT gear. I go for a balance of flexibility, coverage and weight. PL 10-25mm f/1.7 serves as my wide to portrait lens and as my set of primes. Fast aperture. Great lowlight. It’s on my camera 75% of the time. It also serves as my astro lens. FF equiv. of a 20-50mm. PL 50-200 f/2.8-4 a great telephoto that balances focal range, aperture, and size nicely. Will be getting a 2x teleconverter to extend range. FF equiv. 100-400mm. With a 2x teleconverter a 200-800mm. Those are my go to lenses the vast majority of the time. They are the two lenses I grab when I know I might want to shoot but don’t know exactly what. Packs nicely in even a small bag and with a teleconverter in my bag as well I can carry two lenses and have 20mm to 800mm coverage with two lens! With only a slight gap in the middle around 85mm. I did own the venerable 12-35f/2.8 but sold it as it has been replaced by the 10-25. I sold my PL 12mm f/1.4 as it also just was never on my camera after the 10-25. Will be building out a vintage kit later that prioritizes character and feel.

Hoping faster sensor readout speeds or global shutter will allow them to remove the physical shutter in the camera and use that space for an eVND or some kind of built in ND. Built in ND is perhaps one of the more important features a future GH6 could incorporate. Along with 14 stops of dynamic range and full Vlog to unify the entire lineups from MFT to Varicam. ISO performance comparably to to the GH5S would be great. Anymore ISO performance than what a GH5S can do or the latest full frames can do is overkill. You’ll be approaching specialized camera territory. What is more important is useable DR, color rendition, and motion cadence with a good codec, battery life and usability. Panasonic ticks all of those boxes already. GH6 should lean more into the video side I think. Leave the future G10 for the photo folks.
  16. Yes, add in foliage that is often in these actions shots and it turns into a complete muddy mess. I also think over sharpening contributes to the crappy codec encoding quality.
  17. The 360 Max is the right direction for action cams.
  18. Yes , that company is called FujiFilm. You might have heard of them. Let me remind you it has also taken a decade for CMOS sensors to be where they are at today.
  19. Thanks for pointing this out kye. I haven’t often thought of this advantage. I think it’s also one of the reasons having exceptional AF system on full frame and medium format are even more important. I’m talking about the S lenses. Watch this interview with Matt from Panasonic. At 54:00 minutes in Matt addresses how they are making the new S lenses. https://youtu.be/lQ2cuFfcWB8?t=54m The pro lenses Matt specifically says they are not parfocal but have parfocal abilities because they are doing some focusing tricks with the focusing elements, even in manually focus, to achieve parfocal behavior (timestamp at 56:00) A true optically parfocal lens would be huge. Like the fujinon cine lenses.
  20. It seems most of the add-on accessories are.
  21. I still like the form factor of my Mavic Air better. Would love to see a 1” sensor in a future air form factor (or smaller). Ill trade less flight time for it too.
  22. I agree. It appears they are incorporating a few features in all the new S lenses. Manual focus clutch with a linear focus choice and parfocal abilities by using the AF system to “fake” an optically parfocal lens. I get it. But OIS in a wide lens didn’t really make sense. I suspect adding OIS to the 10-25 just made it too bulky, especially when the GH5/G9/EM1.2 cameras have such good IBIS already. Bottom line is if DoF is on the top of your list then MFT is not your best option. For me, MFT makes all the right trade offs for what I need and want. And as camera phones have shown the future is in computational photography. I’m sure there will be a time where I can shoot on a MFT camera and select a few extra stops of DoF in camera with a push of a button.
  23. No, the 50-200 is harder to manually focus for me. I really wish Panasonic would add linear focus by wire support like the S1. The 10-25 has much better control with the focus clutch for whatever reason. Well Panasonic has shown it can do IBIS with dual gain sensor tech in a full frame. So, they would be smart to try for that in the GH6. I love my GH5S. If I had an option to get GH5S with IBIS as a second camera...I'd be all over it.
  24. Laws of physics. Bits have to be represented by some physicality, smallest you can go is an atom maybe and electron. Problem is, the smaller you go the less those things behave in predictably manners. Quantum physics and all that jazz. Same problem exists with fuel and space travel. Moores Law has essential hit a wall (in the CPU domain) storage isn’t far behind. I know hard drive size has not shrunk in anyway for 10 years or more. That’s a problem. It makes me wonder the immense amount of work YouTube has to do to process and store video. ?
