Yeah even the Verge is writing about it. Either slow news day or they are pushing these sensors hard. https://www.theverge.com/2019/8/12/20801750/samsung-108-megapixel-smartphone-camera-sensor-xiaomi-100-million-pixels-6k-video-recording

Why 6k Resolution Is Not Overrated... And Might Be Too Little
Video Hummus replied to DBounce's topic in Cameras
I remember when sports entertainment was a big driver for HD and eventually Full HD (I always laugh at those names) for people in my area to buy a new TV because there was a noticeable difference in quality from SD, especially SD cable. Now no one talks about it. Which I would assume FHD at 60p is good enough or that the difference between FHD and 4K is so little (for the typical screen size and view distance) its not a talking point. Not to mention upscaling quality on the higher end TVs is so good it pretty much levels the playing field unless you have a enormous TV which for most people is 65 and up. I have a 42 inch. -

Buy that tv now and wait 5+ years for 8K content maybe even 10 years if you are in the USA; since our govt persists in allowing companies to drag ass on building out fiber networks (or outright not allowing local municipalities to do it themselves) which are essential if you want general 8K programming to the mass population. -
Find the best video quality for under $200 - fun challenge
Video Hummus replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Andrew better hurry. People are getting antsy. -
It’s sweet! Let me just get my credit card out and pay for this bad boy....$60,000 a bargain! Why isn’t everybody shooting on this! ? Pretty sure that there something more to that image than 8K.
-
I’d take a C100 Mark 3 with those striped down C200 specs.
-
Probably won’t be in anything under a C300 and $8K.
-
A shite ton because I would buy one. But you are throwing out a dream spec camera and not some incremental improvement with a smallish resolution bump.
-
Ah, it’s the 1.8. I jumped the gun and thought it was the famed 57mm Hexanon 1.2 AR. When I skimmed the intro text.

I’m sure many P4K owners who loved and made great works with it will bash it for only having a M4/3 sensor. Even though I can get a speed booster and mount almost any lens onto my GH5S and have a 1.1 crop factor to full frame. But the pockets have many more awesome features when it comes to recording formats. Which makes me ? as a Panny owner. Come on Panasonic!

12K or go home. Only real pros shoot 12K. Gods shoot 16K. I think we are in vastly diminishing returns beyond 6K resolution for most filmic work. Sure, are there always uses for higher resolutions, sure! But when it comes to non-scientific bodies of work where you have an actor on frame or a landscape in front of you there are many more things that will improve your film than resolution (I’m talking video work here, not photos). There are also hard physical limits to data storage as well. Laws of physics and all that. Hence why bigger resolutions don’t excite me. Give me higher DR and better ISO please. Even with ISO (S1 and A7siii) we are approaching good enough for 95% of scenes you will encounter. The rest you fabricate. Give me more compact, but still ergonomic, footprint with a decent resolutions, frame rates, codecs, and storage mediums. The camera industry is down but when you stand back it is larger than ever before. Phones have become primarily cameras—not the other way around. Do a poll. What are the top things people look for in a phone? Probably close to no. 1 will be a great camera! It’s more popular than ever. But for most people convenience trumps most everything else. There will come a time when something shot on an 12K Monstro Mega X Beast won’t be, practically, much better than something shot with a iPhone 15 or One Plus Note 20 (for most sane people; we are insane). Also, @kye, can I borrow your Konica Hexacon? I promise I’ll give it back. Honest.

I see GAS all over the place. Happens every time a new product is released. If anything it will help keep the companies afloat ? (this comment is brand agnostic). As long as BM releases better products at low prices (even if I don’t buy them) it’s a win down the road.
-
Everybody is trending to smaller footprints. Hmmmmm.
-
I think some of that is driven by the fact they shoot RAW or ProRes 4444 XQ and the data adds up on feature films.
-
All this resolution talk....you simply film in the highest resolution you can (time and budget allows) without it effecting greatly your editing workflow for the platform you are delivering for.
-
@androidlad said it was so most likely is.
-
Yep, and you will shoot 20 mins before the battery dies. My point was that the pocket almost requires extra kit to be practically useable. So the true cost of the camera is higher. Used prices going down will help with that.
-
Yes indeed. I see an adapter with built in VND And so will you be when your $1000 iPhone is replaced with something better. This is how technology works.
-
Kinda went off the deep end on that one. Hmm, I live in the present moment. I like my MFT camera and I can’t be bothered to shit on whatever you use because it’s a waste of time and it does no one any good. You’ve been doom and gloom for so long it’s tiring.
-
True cost of the 4K is larger than its MSRP by quite a lot. The 6K isn’t cheap if you don’t have a kit already. Yes, of course. Technology evolves. But we have been hearing about this “MFT is on deaths door” for years. Yet everybody loves their P4K and GH5 and Olympus cameras. But I get it, pessimism is your MO lately. Have sources to back that up? I’m generally curious.
-
Blah blah blah. We hear this crap every year. When the final day comes 4,5,8 years from now everybody will be saying “I said so!!!...8...years ago.

If Panasonic would grow some balls and actually put in a RAW format in their S1H and internal ProRes they would take the market. They have great ergos with well built bodies. They are marketing the S1H as a cinema camera. It better have cinema features. I’m not blown away by BMP6K until I see where the S1H lands. I think they missed out on some innovation with that EF mount. I get it, but I also think they could have done something more exciting there.
