  1. It seems you do have the ability to install custom color profiles though, like Andrew Reid's Zlog. Its not 10 bit, but if you need auto focus seems like a good option for now.
  2. Yeah M43 cameras aren't the greatest idea if you need a wide lens. The Rokinon 14mm 2.8 is a good option, though not the greatest of quality. I've found the Olympus 17mm 1.8 is a great affordable option. Pretty cheap second hand. I always used the Chinese focal reducers with good results.
  3. You can always just use a $20 adapter. The other good thing about the A7III is lenses. When compared with the competition Nikon and Canon created new mounts, while anyone getting the Sony has a lot more lenses available for that mount, especially if you previously owned a Sony. You can even use APSC lenses.
  4. I am happy with it. I think it would be better if it was full frame, but its the best there is right now. I am not planning on getting rid of it. I am looking for a second camera though and the Z6 is looking pretty good.
  5. I am not sure if a speedbooster is a must have. Also a follow focus and gimbal would be something you'd need for any camera. Yeah you probably don't need a follow focus with some cameras like select Canon, Sony and the XT3, but even then in certain light conditions auto focus isn't usable. You could argue IBIS has changed things but I've never really seen a good IBIS system that can do moving shots well, maybe dual IS on the GH5, though it still can't replace a gimbal for fast moving.
  6. The Canon downfall parodies on youtube are amusing. ?
  7. Looking at the image comparison tool on DPreview RAW stills look exactly the same. With jpegs the Nikon Noise Reduction make the image less detailed, less noisy too. The Sony has more grain but its much more detailed and looks quite a bit better. Not sure how video differs from stills.
  8. I would say if you aren't doing a lot of color work you aren't going to need 10 bit capture. Flog works pretty well in 8bit in general, more prone to banding of course. I think 10 bit can help in terms of dynamic range. 10 it color should hold up better in shadows, when raising in post. That said again if you aren't doing much in post you probably won't really notice the difference between 10 and 8.
  9. Andrew how does your profile's dynamic range compare to say the XT3's Flog? I am really thinking about buying the Z6 at this point.
  10. I sort of agree. However they certainly could make their offerings more attractive. An M43 camera with 4K up to 120fps and better high speed HD would still be very attractive. Especially if it had IBIS and the GH5's low light capabilities and PDAF.
  11. I'd have not included Fuji XH1 and put the BMP4K there instead. The XH1 is a great camera (I just got one), however I think it was rushed. It was really just an XT2 with IBIS and a new body. It also lacks zebras. I am strongly considering a Nikon Z6 though.
  12. I don't think 10 bit is overrated. Its just not needed for every project.
  13. The Z6 uses both phase and contrast detect though
  14. I think we worry too much these days. But yeah I wonder if the Nikon does both.
  15. If you have a job with a million dollar actor you can probably afford an external recorder tho.
  16. Nice, are there any other higher dynamic range profiles?
  17. Could see a big improvement in auto focus on the SIII
  18. The test above looks better then my XT3, as in it stays on his face. With the XT3 when he turned around it would have started to focus on the back drop, also it would have probably went to focus on the faces of people passing by. The background does look a bit jumpy at times but the focus seemed to remain on his face the entire time. Looks like he had optimal exposure though it was quite backlit. Hard to believe DBounce was using the same camera in his video. I was recently reading a review for the Nikon and the guy said iso 25,600 is as clean as 6400 on the XT3.
  19. I see the point however xqd cards should be more reliable and sturdy than SDXC
  20. opps I was getting mixed up, thought they were talking about mic jack. You can always hook up a preamp or zoom h1 to your camera to get headphone monitoring. Its more bulk but an H1 is pretty small and there are a lot of compact preamps.
  21. Didn't know it lacked a headphone jack. Too bad so many cameras are crippled by that.
