eyesuncloudedphoto got a reaction from Mattias Burling in Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
Exactly. I'm on the same boat, and let's not forget Panasonic in general always had a tradition for innovation and very few weaknesses with their cameras. E.g. apart from the sensor limitations (where applicable) and video AF (for the most part, although improved), the GH5/G9 are almost perfect hybrid cameras IMHO.

It can do much more: as Hasselblad does, it can also get true color information for each pixel (three different positions) and still produce a "base" resolution image with much improved (accurate) color.

This just keeps looking better and better. Of all the cameras released this year this is definitely the one Im most curious about.
I didn't care much about the hype of the others, they all seem like great cameras but expected, just upgrades of already available stuff. This feels like something new. Im getting a bit of the same feeling like when the BMCC was announced. It feels fresh.

eyesuncloudedphoto got a reaction from Stab in Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 AF for stills!
This is difficult to answer without knowing about the application. What do you want to shoot? Sports have entirely different requirements to portraits or travel photography.
I use the Viltrox+Sigma (EOS mount) setup. First time I tried it for stills, it reminded me of the time I was using the EM1mk1 with the Viltrox FT to m43 adapter and Olympus 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 mk2. Quite snappy but not spectacularly fast. I'd say at the same level as some older native m43 lenses. If I use the setup for stills it will be for static subjects, so, again, depends on your application.

I'm guessing that Sigma will be able to put together a new version of their MC-11 adapter in short order to go from EF to SL.
And hopefully it will be far cheaper than the Novoflex one.
Be interesting to see if the relationship actually allows Sigma to begin selling their SL line-up ahead of the camera launch as they would have a very captive audience immediately with Leica owners.
Including the hypothetical person who in a moment of madness bought a used SL last weekend.
I, erm, sorry, he would be all over them.

Tested the Viltrox EF to Fuji AF adapter tonight. So far I've only tested it with the 50/1.8 STM and I must say, it's very fast. Not native fast, it's an adapter after all. But noticeably faster than the Viltrox Speedbooster on ny G85. And in general faster than any adapter combo I've ever tried.
But like I said, only tested with one lens in pretty bad light. Will test it more thoroughly tomorrow.

Yesterday I was street shooting with the G85. Everything was golden until I was shooting straight into the sun. The focus just started hunting like crazy and couldn't focus on backlit subjects. I then switched to a native lens and everything was fine, very fine to be exact.
Tonight I quickly tried to replicate the issue with the Fuji version but couldn't. It just worked.
Needs more testing but so far I don't really see why a Fuji shooter with EF glass wouldn't get one as long as the money isn't an issue.

I totally agree on the Viltrox. In fact I think this company is going places; I remember using their Four Thirds to m43 AF adapter a few years ago, and it was splendid esp. for the price (EM1mk1 + 14-54mm Oly lens). Now they have several adapters and even some ridiculously great LED lights. We had the L132  for a wedding Saturday, and I was blown away by the quality and performance for a little more than 25 euros (!!!).
Not to hijack the thread: back to the XT3. My feeling is that this camera will be another good "excuse" for extensive adapted lens use for video. The XH1, IMHO, was a great attempt but not really there, due to lack of the proper tech at release time. The XT3 almost ticks all the boxes, and I can't wait for Fujifilm Greece guys to return from Photokina so they can provide me one for extensive testing. I have a short dance/performance film coming up and my plan is to shoot it exclusively on the XT3, in order to put it through its paces. It's a calculated risk but I'm confident enough in Fujifilm IQ and video-specific features to try it. Will report.

Thank you. I'm not into pixel peeping either and never had an issue even with the cheapest focal reducers for photos (much less for video).
Unfortunately I see the Kipon AF focal reducer for Fuji comes at Metabones level prices... Which is curious since the similar Sony version is at half price, hmmm....
Looking forward for your test reviews!

Back in June I reported on the joint sensor development between Fuji and Samsung. You can read all about that ISO Cell project here. This was 100% not a rumour.
Now you may look at the X-T3 and wonder where the new 26MP sensor comes from.

Ive reviewed several Kipon adapters including speedboosters and in my experience they are very good. I see no problem using them instead of Metabones.
With that said, we all have different standards and levels of pixel peeping so one has to try to be sure. But for me, my images and videos they are more than good enough. But I have no experience with any of their AF options. But I will be getting it to test it out.
Yes its available on ebay (2-3 weeks delivery).

eyesuncloudedphoto got a reaction from hoodlum in Sony 31MP APS-C sensor with GLOBAL SHUTTER might be coming to A6700
This is a 4:3 ratio image sensor, so it's hard to believe it will be in any forthcoming Sony camera, except if they decide to release something groundbreaking.
It's interesting to note that they also have a m43 sized sensor, with the same specs.
Either way, global shutter sensors using this tech are certainly coming to a camera near you, soon enough.

It has been reported that Samsung is now producing full frame camera sensor in "large quantities". It is unclear who they are making these sensors for, or if this sensor will make its way into a new Samsung body.

In actual fact, the exact opposite is what happened: Oscar Barnack  transported the cinema 35mm film horizontally thus allowing for about twice the area and creating the first "35mm" photographic camera.

    Look!
Magic Lantern want an EOS R.
And I know just the guy to give them one...
As you can see, Magic Lantern tweeted @ Canon Rumors that they would very much like an EOS R body.
Well together my friends, we can make this happen!
Be ready tomorrow morning Eastern time.
This is when Canon Rumors are starting the competition. All you need to do is enter it. Do whatever's required, even if it involves stupid hashtags like #BeTheRevolution
If you're chosen simply reply that you wish for Magic Lantern to have the camera.
In return, I'll mention your heroic act on the blog.
And if Canon Rumors doesn't end up putting that EOS R body in Magic Lantern's direction, I'll simply point out the truth, that the site Canon once threatened to close down has finally SOLD OUT to the PR machine in a fit of hashtags and Canon giveaways. Yes, the site that leaks and plunders the camera industry for whatever they can find, has finally been tamed!
But Canon Rumors have this chance to redeem themselves.
Give the camera to Magic Lantern.
Contact Canon Rumors here and urge them to support Magic Lantern with the unit

The problem with going with the EF mount is that it'd be  positive short term but a negative long term. Canon will continue with DSLRs for as long as possible, and there will be a ton of old lenses to use, but the time will come when the EF mount will become obsolete as mirrorless takes over for Canon. Do you really want your entrance into the full frame game to be based on a mount that will likely decline greatly over the next 10 years? It kind of has to be a new mount.
One thing that they could possibly do, which could be interesting, it's bring VSM as seen on the LS300 to the camera, allowing the use of m43, APS-C and pretty much every other type of lense to be used with an adapter without vignetting. This is an option, honestly, that I'm surprised more camera makers haven't done. Being able to punch in exactly what sensor size your lens covers is such a powerful feature imo.

Make it 40... to me this camera doesn’t even exist.
Eventually we’ll have footage from John Brawley or Frank Glencairn or Noam Kroll and the footage will look amazing. More people will love it but a few will find something wrong with it...
Eventually card info will be released, and more people will complain.
Eventually AF tests will show up comparing this camera to the PDAF of the a6500 and more people will complain.
Eventually low light tests will show up comparing this camera with the GH5s or the a7sii and more people will complain.
At the end, when it’s released, a bunch of people will complain because they hate that they have to use an IR Cut filter and they will complain that they only get 45-60 minutes of battery life and that they wish it had IBIS...
And eventually the usual suspects will be the only people that have the camera and the footage will be absolutely gorgeous.
    The End.

The new album (last I heard) was at No.7 in the official UK chart.
I'm a big fan of what Panasonic has done with this camera.
That said, the shining star of this video is the band.

eyesuncloudedphoto reacted to Robert Collins in Now mirrorless is a raging success. Samsung will be back
I dont see it myself. The numbers dont really add up. The digital camera market (ILC/compacts) is a US$10bn a year market of which Canon/Nikon/Sony hold 85%. If Samsung re-entered the market and we heroically optimistically assumed they gained a 10% share - it would only amount to US$1bn a year - less than 0.5% of Samsungs US$200bn+ annual sales. Compare that to the US$500bn a year smartphone industry.
However there are, I think, two 'possibilities that could bring Samsung back into the market.
First, Samsung and Nikon are almost a 'perfect' fit. Samsung key competencies are electronics and Nikon's core competency is photography - ideal when cameras are turning into electronic products. Samsung brings image sensors, image processing, lcds etc and Nikon brings lenses, brand, market share and distribution. Furthermore, Nikon is ultimately going to be seriously disadvantaged long term relying on Sony for sensors (Sony being a major and growing competitor in cameras). So a joint venture/strategic partnership between the two makes a lot of sense (assuming that Samsung is interested in the digital camera to showcase its tech.)
Second, and related to this, Samsung could quite easily acquire Nikon. Samsung is a US$300bn market cap company and Nikon is a US$6bn market cap. company. So acquiring Nikon is chicken feed to Samsung. So if Samsung wants to reenter the market, it makes a lot of sense to buy into the market rather than try to recreate their market share from scratch.
But even the Nikon/Samsung tie up in one form or another I see as pretty unlikely because Samsung really hasnt shown a lot of ambition in the image sensor market (despite some press reports to the contrary.) Take the flagship S9/S9+ as an example. It continues to use both Samsung and Sony image sensors (and people dont seem able to tell the difference.)
    https://***URL removed***/news/0634864640/tech-insights-teardown-confirms-galaxy-s9-uses-samsung-and-sony-image-sensors
So if Samsung cant be bothered to showcase their image sensor tech in their flagship smartphones, I dont think they are likely to do it in digital cameras.

I'm looking for some feedback from you.
Do you like the image-adjustment algorithms better than the standard ones, used in just about any other software?
What do you think about the color-matching option?

You can run the app through just about any modern browser:  https://kinoseed.com/

eyesuncloudedphoto got a reaction from GreekBeast in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
    First post in here!
@GreekBeast do you live in Greece too? Because this could play a role in buying options.
Your choices depend on a number of things: do you absolutely need AF? Will you often use a gimbal?
    1) If you want AF on all lenses, the (Canon) Metabones + Sigma 18-35 is a great choice. There is also the much more economical Viltrox adapter (also for Canon) which has received rave reviews but is backordered almost everywhere. I guess you can expect more than two months to receive it in Greece (due to customs clearance times...)
    2) If you go the Nikon way (as I've done) there is the Viltrox NF-43x adapter, which features the same focal reducer as the (AF) Canon version, but is much cheaper, easier to get and of course manual focus only. If you already have a number of Nikon lenses, it surely makes sense to go this way. Again, no AF.
    3) I have the Sigma 30mm f1.4. It's a quite nice lens, sharp and with reasonably fast AF. You can usually get this for close to 200€ used in Greece and about 330€ brand new. Haven't tried the 16mm but I'd think the Panaleica 15mm f1.7 would make a better choice; smaller, lighter, probably faster AF. Great for gimbal or handheld work.
In conclusion, IMHO, the most cost effective solution would be to go for the Viltrox for Nikon focal reducer, plus Sigma 18-35mm, plus 2-3 native lenses that cover your most used focal ranges (the Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 would make another good/cheap option). Because of your low light requirements, native zooms would present some issues. Then add a couple of your adapted Nikon glass and you'll be well served.
