Personally, I think that video looked great.

What a waste of space hahahaha
Looked at it again, in fact no as much as a waste because was able to look at colors and skintones, not very impressed.

I'm sorry, I just can't get over that upside down sony when the screen is flipped out. It is so obnoxious. It's this kind of lack of attention to detail coupled with the fugly menu system that just makes me question the designers. You are right Andrew, there is no soul to this camera.
At least with the S1 you get a beautifully designed, rugged body which makes you want to shoot.
Pending the heat management, though, this looks like a solid corporate camera for people who care about form factor.
It doesn't crush anything. The s1h is netlfix approved camera for a reason and is reliable. We are yet to see what this will do other than a puff piece.
People who judge a camera just on specs make me cringe.

The real problem is that it doesn't even surpass products that have already been on the market for quite a while.
The s1h surpasses it in many respects.
For example, a7siii might have the following flaws: crap ergonomics, crap ibis, crap color, no autofocus with external recording, heat management issues in hot weather and associated recording limits, crap weather sealing, less DR, less video shooting modes, less megapixels for photo mode, less detail in 4k, crap preamps (as with a7iii), less reliable, etc.
But its benefits are 4k60p and 120p and autofocus (which most pros don't rely on).
    Its just a bit meh.

I wouldn't say it was either underwhelming, or fantastically exciting. The 4K/120p 10bit mode looks great. Other than that it seems to be lots of sensible evolutions in all areas that add up to a very usable professional tool.
The combination of features does take some beating. To have that new 10bit codec, continuous 4K 120p, good thermal management, great big high-res EVF, new menus, along with the latest Sony phase-detect AF, does appeal to a lot of people, whereas in comparison the EOS R5 looks like a bit of a broken toy to be honest, with the silly fan strapped to the back.
Sony clearly have a better processor than Canon and better engineering know-how to avoid heat limitations in 4K/120p and 10bit.
I do like the new hybrid SD / CFExpress type A card slots too. The very fast media is barely any larger than UHS II SD.
However, part of me thinks it will be a bit uninspiring to pick up and shoot with. Like all Sonys are.
The new menus look ugly, and all it really seems to amount to is putting the tabs at the side rather than at the top. Fuji's and Panasonic's menus look a lot better.
The playback thumbnails are still dreadful for video clips.
And it remains to be seen what the live-view quality is like and whether it makes use of the 9 million dot EVF and what the focussing aids are like. Is peaking still a fuzzy mess?

Some more overheating times and tests with comparison of video shooting modes:
Curiously does not test the standard 4k mode of the r5 against the a7riv. But all the other modes compare favorably for low light and detail.

That's shambolic. I hope they do an update with a disclaimer to all the people they tricked with their first review making it out like it was ok, myself included.

And so Panasonic are the only ones who actually take the initiative of designing a body that isn't gimped by heat. Someone needs to speak to the execs at Sony and tell them that it's ok if the body on this camera is slightly large (with internal nd). The use case for stills is minimal. They should have made it bigger. Let's wait and see what these record times really are under a hot sun, rather than ideal conditions. .

It s hard for me to understand why someone who need to record something for more than 30min would need a hybrid camera to start with, I mean that what C100/Fs5 are for and have much better ergonomics for interview/ event coverage.( especially regarding audio recording)
They are cheaper as well and have plug and play recording formats.
For me the advantage of a good hybrids are to be discreet and offer some help for run and gun situations ( stabilisation, good DR, descent codecs), and easy to carry around.
I shoot mostly MV and fashion related work ( did some interviews and video portraits as well as small commercials ), I on average the camera run for 2 to 3 minutes per take.
Keeping the camera recording non stop is plain stupid and end up being more expensive once you start editing.

That's out of context. He said he got 8 min of 8k in a hot car. So he tested in less than ideal conditions. He put it in the fridge to emphasis that it did overheat.

I'd like to hear more from Jordan about his test and how he came to that conclusion, but nothing will top Matti putting the camera in the fridge to make sure it's cold MULTIPLE TIMES and then in the same video telling people afterwards that he doesn't think overheating will be an issue for most people.

Was not autofocus. It was clearly a manual focus lens with a horrible focus puller. They would have been better off using an auto focus lens.

I like the changing reactions of canon shooters as more and more info comes out about these cameras:

Come over to stage 5 guys, it's ok. It is inexcusable to have a camera overheat at 4k30p. Don't care if Sony had it in the past.

Lmao. Their own rep says they clearly wouldn't ship a camera that overheats in 24p. But canon's info says they did just that.
Even their own reps can't believe their incompetence. And this is the guy who had the first hands on with the c300 mkiii in the UK.
    What a shitshow.

Not sure if we are allowed to post this here:
But judging by this it is an unmitigated disaster of a camera...although that is not the impression you get from dpreview where there was no overheating at 24p. But summer in japan can get hot. Originally, I thought this would be a good camera, but if it is this bad, then I don't know how you could justify purchasing it.

..so half the MP of an A73, no oversampled 4K, and a slight crop in all shooting modes? all that for $3500?  in a couple regards, it kinda feels like a downgrade.

10-bit & no overheating sounds nice but it’s not exactly mind-blowing either given those caveats and it sure looks like Sony have been very careful as to not cannibalize the rest of their camera lineup, including the ever so popular A73 and flagship FX9.

smh, why dont people test the binned mode versus the HQ mode. Overheating won't matter if the binned mode is good quality. The only issue will be in 60p and 120p, and I doubt people are shooting 30 minutes of 120p footage, and don't get me started on the degenerates that shoot long-form 60p like toneh.
Most of these youtubers are too dumb though.
