UncleBobsPhotography got a reaction from Emanuel in Cine Tracer - a cinematography “video game”
I am a bit of a Matt Workman fan (the creator of cine tracer) because of his old YouTube channel where he explained the lighting for famous movies and music videos. Unfortunately it was taken down because of copyrighted material.
When it comes to Cine Tracer, it looks very promising with ray tracing. If it works halfway decent I think I'll get it. I'm used to making maps for old shooter games and the process seems similar which should make it rather fast as soon as you're familiar with the tool.

If you can't make beautiful videos with the XT3, GH5 or A73, the camera is not the problem. When it comes to the differences, I find the GH5 a bit more robust and user friendly than the A73, while the A73 has some spec wise advantages. No experience with Fuji.

HBO Nordic stream in 5Mbps while Amazon Prime is supposed to have considerably higher bit rate. My HBO subscription is through a 3rd party which relies on HBO Nordic. They have never released an episode on time, and for the second episode it seems like they completely forgot about it because it was a public holiday. In other words, I don't trust them to provide an ideal viewer experience, and the 3rd episode was a dark porridge on my screen. It's a shame they're investing so much into visuals when the last leg of delivery ruins the results, but I also partly blame whoever decided to only use 20% of the histogram for the entire episode. Maybe we need video codecs that normalizes the gamma and adjust it after compression, a bit like how GIF chooses the colour palette based on the picture.
EDIT: I downloaded the 5GB version of the episode now, and that version is perfectly fine as long as you ignore the banding and watch it in a dark room. It's completely different from whatever I streamed the day after release.

This thread does indeed attract a certain type of people. I'm also 34 and I've got a PhD in algorithms. (I am hardly as knowledgable about wedding photography, as my username suggests). Maybe we should band together to make an end of manual wedding photography and create Skynet

I've shot tonnes of weddings, and I've also studied CompSci in my degree (even went so far as to start a Masters in Computer Science, but never finished it) plus I'm a bit time A.I. geek.

My view is that robotic AI cameras/software won't replace humans filming weddings in the near future, but could it happen in my life time...  ? I'm reasonably skeptical it could happen during my working life, but also it still is a very real possibility that I could easily imagine happening, especially in the low/mid range weddings. At the very least it could lead to a three person crew being replaced with just one person and the editing being almost totally automated.

You need a license to be a photographer in some countries? That's insane. I live in a nanny state, but even here you can earn up to €1000 tax free legally as a hobby photographer, and up to €5000 before you have to start paying VAT. Above that you start paying VAT as well, but there is still not any kind of licenses. And you have to have a physical space as well? Where is this? It's perfectly legal to run a business from your home in Norway (where I'm from).
Photography is not exactly bridge building or heart surgery.

That is exactly what machine learning is for. Studying human nuances and internally creating an abstract model based on real world patterns, instead of a human-programmed algorithm. It is exactly what a human wedding videographer does: use experience to govern future actions.

There is no one formula for a successful YouTube channel. There are thousands of different kinds on there, and an amazing amount I can't stand to watch for 5 seconds have a shitpot of followers. Casey Neistat would not exist if he listened to the above Rules.  Watch what you like and be happy. Ignore what you think is silly, maybe not silly to some people that are 16 years old. Those rules sound like it was written by some old Turd like me. It is a whole new world. Old rules no longer apply, good or bad. YouTube attracts people from all age groups, and all kind of people, good or evil. I think the main draw to YouTube is there is really Not any rules other than the big Moral no no's.
I sort of like it the way it is. It doesn't take anyone 10 seconds into a video to see if you can connect with that person or you will Never look at another one they do. It is not Rocket Science to figure it out. But yeah, super loud music in the beginning REALLY pisses me off lol. But some people Must like it or their Channel would be belly up. The take away is the Rule is there IS no rules like the old saying says. Different strokes for Different folks. YouTube is Not going away.
I think it is amazing what you can learn on there, or get help to fix a problem you have.  Interesting stuff for sure. It is hands down the most entertaining site on the Planet.

They also changed it to using floating point instead of integer values. For those not familiar with computer science, a floating point is a number which is divided into 2 parts. The one part has a certain amount of bits to represent "how many zeros" there is in the number (or the exponent), while the rest of the bits are used to represent a certain number of decimals.
An example: The number 1234567890 would usually be represented just as it is. In floating point it could be represented by 1.23456*10^9 by only storing the 7 first digit and the exponent 9.
If they use 24 bits to represent the precision and 8 bits to represent the exponent, they will get the same precision as with normal 24 bit recording, but they would get the same precision whether the number was small or large and they would get a much larger value range.
    For more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-precision_floating-point_format
How well using floating point numbers works in reality is a whole other matter, and the only way to find out is to test it.

I know. I am exaggerating to make my point, also I make the bulk of my income from TV stations and big production companies but still the shrinking of the "pro" market affects me greatly.
To be self employed as I am, you have to have a physical space, and specific (taxable) codes of what you do. Also, in the office, everything has to be legal (software and hardware), while "amateurs" have everything hacked or from b- markets e.t.c
Here, if you are SELF EMPLOYED you been taxed since the first euro. 1 euro of income is taxable. Also, you have to pay a series of extra taxes, and a new thing is that we have to pay for P.O.S, which in my case has to be wireless, so I paied 250€+24% VAT for the machine and 12-15€ per month for the service, regardless of using it or not. I am not going to use it.
Also VAT is not the tax, VAT is additional to the tax. VAT is 24% for every product and service, by the way, so if I charge 1000€ for something, I have to get 240€ also. So someone that do not pay taxes and VAT, can easily charge 450-500€ for something I charge 1240€ and he will make the same money as me. The customer doesn't care about my taxes and VAT anyway, and if the other person can do 80% of what I do, for 40% of the money, then..you get the point..
Also, when I employ other people, I pay them legal money+taxes+VAT, the other person, usually takes 1-2 friends, or their wives (this is another recent trend, especially in weddings!) so they can go easily to 20% of what I should ask. So I have to earn just a silly percentage, just to be competitive with those, and that is why I can't compete for low budget jobs like: events, weddings, small corporates, social media content. Literally they do these jobs from 50euros, they are young people charging 50 euros for an event, or corporate.
The state is getting 60% of what we earn, because they are unable to stop illegal activities and can not tax them. In reality they punish the people -like me - that follow the laws and try to do things right, while been self employed.
Working for the state, which is the 25-30% of the workforce, has different rules and it is the best, but you have to deal with the corrupted political system to do so.
Whoever is from western/advanced countries, try to watch this film

Shot externally with an Atomos in HLG 10bit mode (higher bitrate than internal)
Looks pretty good to me, and a hint of what the internal codec upgrade will look like.
I also feel for a promo film it's above average, a very simple story but effective. A bit sentimental of course, and not perfect attention to detail in some shots, but it works.
I hope one day when I hear a piece of music it will remind me of the Panasonic S1, when I was young enough to shoot stuff and not too old and crippled to use a camera

    Actually Bob, yes and no...
Ruining the market? No, I don't think so, - there has always been 'Uncle Bob's' (or 'Friend Jane Who Does Photography and loves to top focus her kit lens based camera chimping religiously) and if anything, I have seen less of them in the last few years.
Maybe it's my market, (moderately high end but rarely the highest end) but I think it's more the case that the amateurs used to use a DSLR or decent bridge/compact but these days a phone takes such decent pictures but has more limitations, but whatever the reason, they seem less arsed than they used to be!
5 -10 years ago in the UK, there would typically be anything from 1-3 at every wedding trying to shoot the shit out of it and saying things like, "if I get in your way, just shout!". By the time I have to shout...as if I even would, it's too late mate and you already f*cked what might have been a key unrepeatable moment that I'm being paid for, earn a living from and feed my family with, but whatever.
I could tell you dozens of stories, but won't...
But anyway, does it ruin the market? Not really because generally if you have a client with a decent spend, the choice is rarely going to be pro tog at 3k or Uncle Bob at 0k, same as someone who can afford...and desires a new Audi/BMW/Merc is also not considering a used Hyundai in the same mix. Simply different markets...
The yes bit applies only to the fact that if you get one guest trying to shoot the shit out of a wedding, it only sets a precedent for others to have a go when they otherwise would probably not and it can all get out of hand very quickly. Video or photography and both are as bad as each other as the amateur videographer usually shoots far too close and is far too slow but the tog is bobbing up and down left right and centre and again, usually far too close.
I could show you a video from last Summer where one guy decided to step out into the aisle during the ceremony when there was a video camera on a tripod recording the entire ceremony from start to finish.
If you watched the whole thing (like I had to), you can see he looks back, spots the camera, hesitates, makes a conscious decision to do it anyway.
Short period of time, he does it again. A lady a couple of rows back watches him do this a couple of times and decides to do the same, also glancing back, spotting the camera but decides her snap is more important than the production that the couple who invited them and paid for them to be at their wedding have paid for.
By the time we got to vows and ring exchanges, we had a huddle stood completely obscuring the rest of the ceremony for the remaining 20 minutes or so. One small ripple became a tidal wave.
The only 'positive' I can think of is at least the couple can easily identify who completely f*cked their wedding video. Me,- well I am covered by contract as I have zero responsibility in regard to guest behaviour but the B&G were beyond incensed!
The bottom line for me is one of respect and etiquette. The few times I have been invited to a wedding as a guest, phone or compact only and I would not dream of getting out of my seat, or hanging around outside church waiting for the bride and her father to turn up, same as I would not turn up at someone's place of work on a Monday morning and start using their work computer or attending a board meeting.
But none of that has anything really in regard to losing a job to some low-ball quote!
