I own the 0.5 and 1, and they do their job. I haven’t done a complete test of any image degradation but from seeing how they perform through a viewfinder they do just fine. I agree that their other products aren’t great but these filters seem to be good ones. It just stinks that they seem to be the only ones making 95mm diopters at less than +1 strength.

I've only used the S1 and S1H (and EVA1), but I remember someone posted a comparison of the S1 and S5 and V Log was more green on the S5.
Which is good, the EVA1 has better color than the S1 in part because it's lacking such a strong magenta tint:
Of course, compared with Alexa footage, everything looks magenta!

Even though you'd expect it to be, it's not interlaced, it's 24p footage someone put into a 1080/30p timeline from what I can tell.
Is there any fast way to do this with After Effects or Premiere or Compressor?

I have a 30p stock footage clip that looks like it was shot at 24p and then encoded at 30p with repeating frames. Is there any software I can run this through to detect the repeated frames and remove them?

Quality is great, pretty fast too, I used to use it pretty extensively transcoding Samsung NX1 and NX500 h.265 files into Pro Res.
LUTs can be baked in, it's a solid piece of software with regular updates, they keep it running smooth.

Test the 6K mode internal, with ACES color workflow. Resolve let me only render 4K, Gpu has not enough RAM 😏

I don't trust everything DXOMark publishes, their measurements indicate better color depth over time...
Whereas to my eye the color from my Digital Rebel XT is better than the color from my S1. Anyway it doesn't matter if they're right if I can't see it or make it work. But there are thinner bayer filter dyes apparently and I think it is leading to a "change" in color.
Oddly though I felt C300 Mk II was a step down for color from C300 Mk 1, F5 was a step down from F3, etc. but C300 Mk III looks like an improvement and Venice color is excellent, FX6 looks promising too but yet to work with it. So we might be heading back in the right direction.

Yeah, I don't have more than the slightest clue what's going on, but I think V Log 640 ISO is a lower ISO with a big digital push. Anyway the S1 dynamic range (not sure if you own one or not) is excellent.
    +1
Also worth noting that the default Alexa LUTs Arri and Adobe distribute throw out about as much extra highlight detail as the Alexa has over other cameras. On a standard display you're going to struggle to have a 14 stop image that looks good. I miss t2i neutral more and more.
But it is weird, one knock against the S1 is the GHX series has better skin tones for some reason imo...

I did a quick test yesterday and the S5 is still a little bit brighter and less magenta (both cams on latest firmwares, same settings and same lens with the clips being taken less than 60 seconds apart). However I feel the S1 was maybe a little bit less magenta than last time I did this so maybe they bridged the gap a little. In resolve if you take the offset up one step from 25 to 26 and add 2 points of green with the tint control (on the S1) then it was almost a perfect match so not much work needed to match at least. Another way to take care of it in camera would be to add some green in the kelvin settings and that pretty much takes care of the magenta bias as well.

Yeah I'm really conflicted about log profiles on consumer cameras. I honestly don't like the way most footage is graded these days, and the popular style of 'cinematic grading' which to me usually looks flat and weird when done by amateurs. The worst casualty has been skin tones, with rich vibrant alive tones replaced by green grey yellow orange stylised skin in 90% of videos on Youtube.
Whether that's to do with Sony sensors or just Log profiles is a difficult question. I do know however that I have rarely seen skin tones out of any Sony camera below the FX9 that I've liked.
One of the things I'm struck by when I watch old movies shot on film - from the 70s through to the 90s - is how natural and beautiful everything looks, before every shadow had to be dark blue and every skin tone had to be sunburnt orange or desaturated grey.

The Venice has a great look, pretty similar to Alexa LF but a bit sharper. I have noticed that cameras with on-chip autofocus (DPAF or whatever the A7S3 has) tend to have a blotchier shadow noise texture. Venice has a nice noise texture. S1 seems nice, too, but the HEVC codec smooths out all the noise.
Alexa dynamic range is no longer that much better than the competition. It's largely that Alexas are used on sets with higher budgets. Some of the easiest footage to work with in post, though, imo.

I used to own a C100 Mk 1 and shot a bit with C300. Love them both! C100 ergonomics are better imo but codec is weak and EVF is terrible. Haven't used Mk2. But it should improve on low light, EVF, and codec....
Only thing I'd add is it's nearing the end of its lifecycle and price might go down.
Or up. Used C100 Mk1 with DPAF sell for more than the $1299 they were EOL'd at IIRC. I think it is a winner.

Hey all, I grabbed both these lenses the last few weeks as funds allowed. Definitely a great deal going at adorama on Nikon Mount Rokinon Cine lenses.
    $220 for the 14mm 2.8 and $230 for the 24mm 1.4
$230 for a new 24mm f/1.4 is insane to me.

HockeyFan12 reacted to Ed David in Boring content – is the film industry TOO sane?
Maybe the dopamine hits of social media are to blame?
Is there a point anymore for a young twenty-year-old Herzog circa 2021 to beg, scrape, and steal to make a film?  When you can just make a tik-tok?  Get a million followers.  Move on?
Maybe social media takes away precious free-time that you need to concentrate to come up with, as David Lynch says, "catching the big fish?"
Or maybe the social anxiety of life pre-Covid - the mental-health insanity of it all - left little time to be happy and creative?
Or maybe with the movie theatres all about to die and the rise of netflix and movies being "content" as Scorsese calls it - maybe that has sapped everything that forces someone to work so hard to make their own feature.
For me I was born in 1981, and movies were the only thing I knew up even past college in 2003 when I could have started a filmmaking career. Netflix was just a mail-order DVD service. There was no social media yet, except maybe Friendster.
Now nearly twenty years later - what do young people who want to say things do?  Do they have that precious time to be creative?
Especially now when in 2021 young people graduate with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt vs the 1970s when young people had barely any debt and could have a decent life and buy a home with little money and had room to wander and explore?

HockeyFan12 reacted to leslie in Coronavirus survey part 2 - how are work & incomes going?
I work in a factory running cnc machines and lately a waterjet. I dabble in video for a hobby.  I got laid off, not long after covid hit here in aus and nearly everything got shut down. Spent about six- eight months off work. Ended up withdrawing 20k out of my super, as allowed by the government at the time. Paid the mortgage off and bought a 3 year old Mitsubishi outlander.
Some might say I haven't had it too tough, and I can't say that I blame them for thinking that.
Here in Australia we haven't experienced the death rates in other countries. Whether that's due to the government initiatives or a smaller population more spread out or dumb luck, I couldn't tell. But I am however grateful as I have some rare bug called sarcoidosis which would probably not play well with covid, if I were to catch it. While covid hasn't had the same impact here mortality wise, financially it's probably  near crippled a lot of people, families, government.
Long time ago I remember a saying ask not what your country can do for you, but rather, what can you do for your country.  Personally I think it might the time to focus a bit less on myself and some more on where I can help others, and maybe video something along the way.

I've returned to older cameras. I don't need 4k for personal projects and don't really think it looks better, either.
I've always liked the image from both the C100 and GH5. I think V Log has +4 stops of highlight detail above 18% gray and Canon Log has 5.3 but then the shadows get a bit muddy and you have to watch your 100+ IRE super whites and recover them in post. With an external recorder, the C100's image I think is really great. But it does fall apart bit with macro blocking on leaves and flat surfaces, so I wouldn't use it for green screening necessarily. The Mk II might be better.
But after going through a bunch of newer cameras I also found the older stuff familiar and lighter in post, which I appreciate.

HockeyFan12 got a reaction from kye in Filters?
Contrast filters lift the black levels across the frame, resolution filters have a small-radius bloom or simply reduce the sharpness of the image without reducing the contrast, halation is a wider-radius bloom that reduces contrast locally but doesn't necessarily wash out the entire frame. Reference the chart on the Scatter webpage. I imagine Ultra Contrast would look like somewhat like a light gray solid if it were on that chart.

Of those, Digital Diffusion FX is what I would recommend. Some of the black diffusion filters are nice, too, they lower the contrast less than the regular variants.
