Ignoring the made up numbers here, in terms of debayer quality the method for cDNG is much older as not anywhere near as good as Blackmagic RAW. I see a lot of people mistake the artefacts of the DNG debayer as sharpness. Its not that the cDNG debayer is necessarily keeping more details, but it IS creating false detail. An interesting comparison was just posted here that's worth looking at :
    https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&p=510320#p510320
Especially this image - what you're seeing on the DNG is not real information the DNG retained, it's CREATING it (falsely) and it can look like sharpness/detail when it's over areas of real detail, but it's a very "hard" and digital feeling look IMHO :

But also pay really close attention to the resolution image at the above link. You can see on the right hand side the artefacts between the red and yellow resolution lines and around the edges of the circle. These artefacts are not real detail or sharpness that you lose with Blackmagic RAW, they are created in error.

Something to consider as well is we get a lot of feedback from customers that 4.6K Blackmagic RAW still has more resolution than some "other" cameras 8K RAW images - likely because of strong optical low pass filtering that without could produce similar artefacts as shown in DNG.

The highlights and shadows sliders in cDNG are NOT debayering RAW controls and work on debayered data only. They are the exact same (mathematically) as the ones in the primaries tab and work exactly the same on Blackmagic RAW as the DNG RAW tab ones. I demonstrated this for someone on Facebook last year..

As a passionate owner of the first BMPCC, the Micro, and the Pocket 4K, I'd have to say... it's just a different approach. I LOVE much of my Pocket/Micro footage. I mean, LOVE. But... there's plenty of footage from those cameras I DON'T love. Anything without a ton of light, or incredibly fast lenses... the footage is ehh. I mean, that which is even salvageable is ehh. And most of it is not even salvageable. The original cameras are amazing, provided you have tons of light. If not, they're pretty much terrible.
The P4K can obviously capture 10x the amount of usable footage that the old ones can. Bright light, low light, no light, it's all good. And yes, the look straight out of the camera, on sharp modern lenses, looks video-ish. Blegh. But then I started using interesting lenses on it, and the magic came right back. If you want "filmic", do NOT shoot the P4K with clinical, modern glass. I am LOVING the combo of the inexpensive Kamlan 25mm F0.95 on the new Pocket. The creaminess and softness of the old Pocket returns (but with more resolution). Add grain in FilmConvert, and I'm back in love.
In short... the old cameras had "mojo" from the sensor, but you had to add sharpness and light from the lens. The new cameras have sharpness and light, but you need to add "mojo" with the lenses.
I love them all, and am keeping them all

It took E.T. ages to be released for vhs/laserdisc back in the day. I was doomed to dark for viewing outside a theater/darkroom. So it got a ‘tv’ grade to make it more watchable in the living rooms. But it took 6+ years...

In modern Scots idiom “braw” means good or attractive as in “it’s a braw day” or “you’re braw looking”...  the latter might need to be used with care however (or you’ll be greeted with a 12bit uncompressed “Glasgow kiss”).
Not, I hasten to add, that it’s my own preferred variation of the Queen’s English.
Playing with the settings after I upgraded reminded me just how superb the BM user interface and menu system is.

    Hello everybody!

So, I've attended the Blackmagic Raw seminar held at CVP here in London yesterday and I thought I'd share some impressions:
Let's start with the bad news first: unfortunately there is no official release date for BRAW on the PCC4K yet.. They confirmed it is coming to the camera 100% but they want to make absolutely sure that the update is safe and won't brick the camera (which sounds like a sensible plan indeed!) ?
That been said I can't wait to have the option to use BRAW, it's such a clever and well implemented solution and i reckon it will be the best choice on the PCC4K for 90% of the occasions. What really impressed me is how good the performance is in Resolve compared to CNDG, it is entirely possile to edit BRAW on a laptop without creating optimised media and/or dropping the resolution. To drive the point home even more they worked on a grading project that was hosted on a USB 3.0 spinning drive and it worked flawlessly, i was quite shocked when I saw a clip with a speed ramp set in optical flow playing at 24fps at full quality on an entry level MBP!
Another super clever feature of BRAW is the ability to shoot with any dynamic range preset and being able to revert back to film mode afterwards, that is pretty awesome for dailies or things like that.
I also very appreciated the fact that they were totally sincere in showing us the difference in visual quality between BRAW and CDNG and, although there is a slight difference in quality with CDNG being a bit sharper, said difference is only visible in extreme magnification (pixel peeping basically) so in real life BRAW is perfectly adequate especially considering the many advantages it offers in terms of workflow. The Blackmagic guys reckoned that CDNG would be the best choice only in very specific situations where having the best quality possible is paramount (like VFX for istance).
Overall it's been a very interesting demonstration and i think BRAW will make the PCC4K even better value for money, exciting times ahead!

Don, I have used the camera strictly for personal usage so far with a simple manual lens coupled to it. Reliable focus assist reminds me I will never want to shoot in a smaller monitoring (non-)capability size. And zero need for a rig, actually. On the contrary.
Take a look on my work you can follow from my signature. The projects I participate either as producer or/and shooter take a few years before to see the light.

    Trust my input though:
This is the best camera ever designed and manufactured.
I deal with these devices for thirty years today.
It is not only the IQ, the way the light is handled by sensor, codecs from ProRes to RAW in-camera more than mere range of specs as single promises to sell straight out the paper, also the color science, the ease of use as much as any photo camera for decades, form factor and ergonomics then, so everything.

I am completely sold. You should know how skeptical I was on their business policies before.

Yeah I'm gonna chalk this up as some serious rose-tinted glasses towards those old BMD:s. I'm not saying they're bad but I know I won't touch one with a ten foot pole today - and I used a BMCC almost exclusively for two years. Anything BMCC did the new BMD:s can do - and a lot more. In fact the original color science on the BMCC was kind of a pain in the ass in hindsight.
Also consider the fact that you're comparing a camera that's been out for what, five years, with thousands of hours of footage available online, to a brand-new one people are slowly adopting and coming to terms with.
Anyways, I'm having fun with my P4K and have already used it on ten or so commercial shoots. On gimbal, as a B-cam for stealing quick shots, and even as a broadcast cam on a christmas cooking show live stream  - was able to match it perfectly to the URSA with my own custom LUT and it ran flawlessly through the show.

I have no idea what you're talking about or why...goofy? This is an amazing camera in the opinion of the pros using it - even with some initial issues that i've spoken to with BM and on the official porum.
We have all of those cameras and others. We've already produced several projects with the P4ks, TV and films - a couple with them only.
I'm offering my experience - what are you offering other than angry, foul language about things you've read on a general forum?

With all due respect, you need to stop doing this thing where you go on long diatribes based on assumef information that isn't even true. The Varicam lines have been very popular sellers, especially the LT. Not FS7 or C300 monster-sales, but for episodic, spots, and doc, they're seeing plenty of professional use. Do your research before you make sweeping statements about sales figures or market popularity.

Yes, SSD and SD use the same usable slot, which is annoying if you don't plan on using Cfast for anything. Maybe they'll change that in a firmware update.
I was the one with Phantom power issues, but they have since (mostly) cleared up. I contacted BMD about it and they've said they haven't had any other complaints. After sending them some tests, I've been asked to send the camera back and they'll replace it within 10 days. I'm filming stuff that doesn't require in camera audio for the next week though, so I'll send it back after that. I think my camera just has some issues and it's not wide spread thing.

Sure, that is the basic way embedding a video onto a webpage today. If that’s all you need you are good to go ?
However if you need stats or having the minimum ambition regarding the player functionality and looks it is another story.
And more importantly the distribution on the internet. The user experience.
If you want your 1080p or 4K video to play relatively fast forget about uploading it to your shared web host plan thinking that is it.
To perform well and stream fast the video has to be hosted on a good CdN too
Further more people are used to adaptive streaming. Not just one bitrate version of the video being downloaded. It is more important than ever since many are watching using their phone on the go.
It seems simple but for high performance delivery and smooth experience the embed code is just a very small part of the equation.

    Batteries:
I bought two Dynacore LP-E6 batteries however they last less than the BM battery since they are 7,2V / 1800mAh  / 12,96Wh and not 7,4V / 2000mAh / 14,8Wh as the BM battery. So they last less. Buy quite a bit. At least it feels like that. Not recommended (the shop recommended them for the BMPCC4K so I didn't double check the specs...)
However at least they show linear % value in the camera ( not like the BM battery that gives a super odd and jumpy readout without % )
Thinking of trying this: (25% extra capacity than the BM battery)
    https://www.amazon.com/Opteka-2600mAh-Capacity-Battery-Digital/dp/B00CHT37LQ

    Storage:
Besides a couple of 64GB V90 sd cards (great for up to 4K DCI 25fps prores HQ/ 1080p120 prores HQ) I have a Sandisk Extreme portable SSD 500GB. It works great with raw as well up to 4K DCI 60fps 3:1 raw without dropped frames. (400+MB/s write speed)

I noticed today that when using the external usb C drive (at least mine) it takes some  seconds before it is available to record on. After booting/turning on the camera!
The more full the ssd is, the longer it takes. With 350GB occupied it takes the camera around 6s extra to calculate available recording time and indexing clips or something. So the 3-4s startup time suddenly gets 2-3x longer.
That should (hopefully)be fixable with a firmware update.

is the behaviour the same on big SD/CF cards?

Update: My ssd is ExFat formatted, Will try with HFS+ and report back it it acts different.
