The only thing the dual native ISO auto setting does is that it opens up the whole range and automatically change the circuit when you reach 4000. That is how it works on the S5. I cant change that.
Auto ISO and dual native ISO auto setting is to different things. I'll try to explain the best I can š
When you are using manual ISO:
Think of the dual ISO like a manual gearbox with a high and a low setting. The low setting is gear 1 to 3 and the high setting is 4 to 6. If you use the low setting, you can only use 1, 2 and 3 (in the camera that is 640-3200) and if set to high you can only use 4, 5 and 6 (in the camera that is 4000-51200). If you use the auto (in camera that is dual native ISO auto setting) you can use 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 (in the camera that is 640-51200).
But the camera also has a auto ISO setting which make the manual gearbox automatic but you still have the choice of low, high and auto dual ISO settings.
If you use auto ISO in the low setting it will use 640-3200 based on your exposure settings, it will never go higher than 3200. The same with the high setting but it will only use 4000-51200.
In the dual ISO auto setting it would use the whole range 640-51200 based on your exposure settings. The camera doesn't care that 4000 is cleaner than 3200, it only choose the ISO to match your exposure settings.
The camera is recording at the value you set, 800 is 800, 1600 is 1600 and so on. It's the same as a camera without dual native ISO.
Check this video from DP Journey, he shows how the it works in the S5 and how to get the best noise performance.
His conclusion for minimal noise in the image is to use 640-1250 or 4000-6400. Check the charts in the video.I hope this helps š

If it works the same as in the GH5S you can see how in this video below. The low and high setting just limit the ISO to the the low or high native iso chip.
Auto just means it use the whole range of ISO in the camera and change circuit when reaching 4000 in V-log.
It won't go to the most appropriate setting for minimal noise it just works as standard Auto ISO, the camera chooses the ISO that fits your exposure settings.
On the S5 I can't choose low och high. It always has the whole range.
I use manual ISO when filming and in V-log I use 640 up to about 2500, if I need to go higher i often use 4000 and up rather than 3200 because 4000 is a little bit cleaner.
In the S5 theĀ dual native ISO works like this:
Normal picture profiles: 100 and 640 ISO
V-Log: 640 and 4000 ISO
HLG: 400 and 2500 ISO
Cinelike D2/V2: 200 and 1250 ISOĀ

G9 replacement or if you are me, S1 line replacements?
I think it will be a G-series camera because of the G in the video.

And me as an idiot still checking the rumors to see if maybe in 2024 there will be a M43 Pana camera with PDAF. In the meantime Sony has revamped the whole fleet and at this rate maybe even two iterations.
Well maybe you don't have to wait more than a week.

Ok but what happens during recording if you're in continuous AF and you grab the ring to MF? once you let go the focus ring it switches right back to AF and may hunt/pump if it decides to focus elsewhere. That's where toggling on/off AF via quick button config becomes crucial. Can that be done?
Yes you can do that, I just tried it. If you set a custom button to "autofocus lock" then when you're use the focus ring it stays in manual mode until you click "autofocus lock" again and it will go back to AF.

activating AF+MF in the cameraās menu enables the manual focus ring to be used for focusing while the lens is set to AF and the shutter release is held half-pressed.
Not a bad solution for stills but for video I guess no direct MF override when lens is set to AF?
It works in video to on my S5. Before recording it's the same as stills, half press and then you can use manual focus. When you press record the manual focus just works when you turn the focus ring,Ā guess it's the same with S5II.

From cined.com
"Planned firmware update
Panasonic already mentioned some features that will be unlocked with a future firmware update. These include (but are not limited to) the following:
Apple ProRes 422 and 422 HQ for DCI 4K and Full HD resolutions
Direct recording to an SSD via the USB-C port
4K 120fps HDMI video output during live view
4K 120fps HDMI raw video data output toĀ Atomos Ninja V+
Panasonic did not yet disclose when exactly we can expect this update."
Matt and Sean confirm the firmware updates in this video at 27.20

Maybe, but I have never heard them say that it was a choice at all. Time will tell š

Interesting answer on the autofocus question by Panasonic's Matt Frazer. So if they choose better dynamic range and image quality over phase detect autofocus as he says. Will they do the same choice with a potential S2H, that has good dynamic range already?
At 20.19 he talks about the autofocus choice they made.

A great feature that makes manual focusing easier with a lot of Sigmas lenses.
"[Benefit of the update]
ć»It introduces compatibility with the āfocus ring controlā function of the camera, allowing either ālinearā or ānon-linearā focus movement to be selected when using MF.
* SIGMA fp L, SIGMA fp, Panasonic Lumix S1, Lumix S1R, Lumix S1H, Lumix S5, Lumix BS1H, Leica SL2, SL2-S are supported."https://www.sigma-global.com/en/news/2022/01/20/17062/
I've updated the 35 mm 1.4 DG DN, 24-70 2.8 DG DN and 45 2.8 DG DN lenses with my S5. You can't choose all focus throw options on the lenses, it differs from lens to lens.

I rarely shoot music videos but I made one for a friend a couple of months before the pandemic. Shot with GH5, with Pana/Leica 15mm 1.7, 25mm 1.4 and 42,5 Nocticron. And two Aputure HR 672s. No pre-production, no storyboard, It's was all improvised, a very stressful couple of hours so bear with me šĀ I used Emotive color v3 when editing.Ā

Panasonic has updated some lenses to mark II.Ā TheĀ PanasonicĀ Leica Summilux DG 25/1,4 II,Ā Panasonic AF 20/1,7 II and Panasonic AF 12-35/2,8 G Lumix Vario ASPH Power OIS II are all mark II lenses with small upgrades and the old ones are phased out. Then they have produced new more expensive and unique lenses, like the Summilux 10-25 1.7 and Panasonic Leica 12-60 2.8-4.Ā Let's hope it's the same with the GH5 mark II, some small upgrades to replace the original GH5 and then there is a GH6 coming, maybe a new body design and new unique specs. One can always dream :) But I'm happy right now with my S5 and GH5 combo.

hey, I'm currently debating whether or not I should purchase the S5 and I have one question. Does video get captured in 4gb chunks? or can files be bigger than 4gb?
You can record larger files as long as you use SDXC cards.
From the S5 manual: "When using an SDXC memory card: A new file will be created to continue recording if the continuous recording time exceeds 3 hours and 4 minutes or the file size exceeds 96 GB."

If you mean being able to punch in while recording? If so, I am not sure. It isn't available on the S1, but only on the S1H as far as I know (and I am only 50% sure it is available on the S1H).
Matt Frazer from Panasonic answers why it doesn't work in the S1H in this video at 47.55, a limitation of how they designed the flow of data.

at 6.15 in theĀ videoĀ you find the external resolutions and framerates. Prores RAW in 5.9k:Ā 24 (I think it's 23.976 not 24) 25 and 30.
S35 4k mode adds 50 and 60, and in anamorphic 3.5k you can useĀ 24, 25 , 30 and 50, If he is correct.

I'm glad it all make sense, to bad it doesn't work the way you want.
I use C3-1 to C3-8 for all my video use and have different settings, color profiles, framrates, internal and external recording etc. I love that you can have up to 10 settings on the C3, very handy.
I use C1 and C2 for photography.
I'm happy to help š
