Thpriest reacted to MrSMW in Leica SL3... the Panasonic S1R mk2 is coming soon?
The S1R and the SL2 are the more stills focused units and perhaps the SL3 and any S2R will also be leaving the option for lower res more video focused versions?
Full frame 6k 50/60p over 8k 25/30p internal all day for me.

Well I hope these are not the features of the future Lumix FF flagship.
The specifications for the video look very basic. 8K@30p 10 bit but only 4:2:0 internally.

The final line up for the 2024 season.
    From left to right…
S1H with battery grip, 70-200 f4 (not shown, Rode WG2) permanently on tripod shooting static full length ceremony & speeches, manual focus, 4k 25p.
Z6ii + adapted Tamron 70-180 f2.8 (not shown battery grip arriving tomorrow) with option Tamron 20-40 f2.8, stills only but can do video in an emergency. Sling on shoulder.
S5ii + cage + Sigma 28-70 f2.8 + Rode Micro as my all day run & gun, gimbal ready, 4k 50p unit (so 42-105mm equivalent). Right hip.
Zf + 40mm f2 candid stills but can also do video in an emergency. Left hip.
Single backpack with all lighting, all other audio, all spare batts, cards, power bank, chargers, gimbal etc, but actually lives in my cart along with the 2 big light stands, 40m extension reel and 500W portable power bank.

I'm starting from the other end! Video first and adding photos. I've 20 year experience on the video side but started experimenting with photos as well last year. Starting with low budget weddings (compared to my normal weddings) whilst I get to grip with how to do hybrid weddings as I explain to the couple that I'm developing this style of wedding and they are happy to get what they get! The video comes naturally but I need to work the photos!
The AF and punch in to focus on the S5mk2 has definitely made it easier.

Being serious, it's mostly 'simply' a case of starting out as a 100% stills photographer who through a process of trial & error technique-wise plus balance of tools used, added X% of video per annum at the approx following rate:
Year 1 = + 10% (just static single camcorder on tripod ceremony & speeches)
Year 2 = + 20% (as above plus a tiny amount of handheld or other bits and bobs on a tripod)
Year 3 = + 35% (adding more elements and volume)
    Year 4 = + 50%
    Year 5 = + 75%
    Year 6 = + 100%
Since that time, more refinement/evolution than revolution.
The principle skills are probably determination combined with the ability to multitask whilst being prepared for quite a few setbacks, especially financial ones as there is no official guide or handbook, just self-education/experimentation.
If anyone really wants to know the specifics, they can book and pay for a workshop. But it ain't cheap. Various competitors have been trying to weasel info for years, but I protect my niche like a cornered weasel myself 🤑😈

For anyone it might help, the separate charger is available in Europe from Panasonic Spares https://www.pas-europe.com/shop/p/DVLC1005Z for £26.99 + delivery.  It is just the charger itself, no cable or power adapter, but of course it works with the supplied adaptor and cable that came to charge the battery in-camera.  This is significantly cheaper than the £100+ for the retail kit.  I've tested the charger with the supplied adapter and it charges at around 10 watts.

Yeah the GH1 was groundbreaking itself, as were the ones after it, the GH4 and even GH5.
But the competition is so hot now, GH7 needs something "big" in it. And 8K or raw won't do it.
Internal NDs are what we need! (and/or SDI out.... please??)

If Lumix wants to blow everyone out of the water ( now they have decent AF) they should release a S1H2 and a GH7 with some kind of ND. The S2 would be fine being a high res photo centric version without ND.
Also 6K open gate 50p no crop.
If they can do that for around 4000€ along with all their other strong points then I’m in.

I’d like to call a halt to buying gear but I’m seriously thinking about selling my Lumix S5 and getting an S5X to go with my S5Mk2. The user experience with the Mk2 is so much better than the Mk1. It would only mean spending 1000€. That and a Sigma 16-28 f2.8 and the Rode Wireless Pro.
Oh, and sell my Macbook Pro 16” M1 Pro with 16gb ram as I made a big mistake there. 16gb ram is totally inadequate. I need 32gb at least. Expensive mistake.
    So…fuck. That’s a lot of money😵‍💫

I have the 1tb model with about 4-500gb free and work on external SSDs. I’m going to clean up the internal SSD and try and get about 2/3rds free. I’ll see if that helps and so avoid spending more money on gear! (Although if work in 2024 is like 2023 then the S5x will be coming my way! 🤞🏼)

Since computers transitioned to SSDs, the memory swapping mechanisms (where they put a chunk of memory onto the drive and load another one into RAM when needed) have become very useful and quite high performance.
If FCPX is running out of RAM, I wonder if your SSD is running out of swap space somehow.  I'm not exactly sure how you'd check these things, but that's worth looking into.
A few suggestions..  if your SSD is close to being full, try clearing some extra space and seeing if that helps performance.  I'd suggest reviewing FCPX settings to see if there's a setting that limits how much swap space it is allowed to use.  Do a google on FCPX RAM usage - I just did a search and there's lots of threads of people talking about it, so there might be good tips in there that might help.
Also, some folks report that having files (like source media, proxies, etc) on an external drive rather than the internal drive can improve performance too.  I'm not sure of your current setup but that's something to check.
Good test, but it might not be enough.  With all these companies building in AI to their software now I suspect that RAM requirements might gradually balloon over the next years as they integrate this stuff.
This is likely to be the same with CPU/GPU as well.  Resolve has quietly introduced a number of AI functions for things like NR and frame interpolation and audio processing etc, and I can tell you these things absolutely KILL your computer.  I'm talking where you have it on "Faster" and you can do 24fps, on "Better" and it can do 20fps, and then "Enhanced" (which is the AI one) and it can only manage a frame every few seconds, and will crash 8 times out of 10 trying to export the project.
If you can, I suggest giving yourself some head room in the specs, especially as you can't upgrade them later!

If buying a newer Mac, before buying it, load up the maximum number of things that you expect to be doing at a time and actually use the computer with all of them running for a bit.  Then you can go into Activity Monitor and see how much RAM is in use.  But at least that much and if possible, buy the next step up.  With how fast processors are these days, there's a good chance that with the extra RAM, you will have a computer that you'll still be happily using in a few years.  That and avoid the smallest SSD, as it usually has half the performance of all of the others.

Fcpx. I know it’s ram as the computer tells me I’m out of ram! It’s true that I mainly edit 4K and 6K 10bit Movs. I can’t run Chrome or anything else if I want to edit with no hiccups. I’m finding this to be very tedious. If you are doing serious editing I’d go for 32gb minimum

    I'd suggest an alternative approach.
You should really be buying 2 x S5iiX cameras, Angenieux EZ-2 15-40mm T2.0 lens, and an Apple Studio with M2 Ultra 24-Core CPU, 64GB Unified RAM, 1TB SSD, which totals USD$21,500 so if you ONLY buy the things you've listed above then you're SAVING a ton of money!
I've been watching fashion influencers on TikTok and I'm pretty sure that's how financial management is done these days.
If you do enough of these deals, the reward seems to be a big house with sports cars in the driveway.

Never had banding or AF issues with my S5ii. For video, it’s a f**king excellent piece of kit and way above most folks needs or skills.
And for the price, silly value.

    1. This is a problem. I imagine they’ll fix it as it wasn’t a problem on the S5 (the S5 would stick to one individual but it’d be sheer luck if they were in focus).
    2. Never seen banding but I don’t pixel peep.
    3. It works quite well. Not quite as good as Sony or Canon from what I’ve seen
