Not nearly as beautiful as that Patagonia piece. But we just got back from a weekend trip to Vietnam.

Filmed on XT-3 F-Log, used the Eterna LUT. Canon 17-55 f/2.8 with Fringer adapter and a super cheap and ugly variable ND.

Stop showing that stuff lol. Eye Candy for sure. Show us a good B&W photo using it. I would think that might be it's sweat spot for output. A "somewhat" cheaper Leica maybe?
I am sort of torn from buying it, a S1 or an Canon 1DC. If I save for a few months might make one of them happen. Kind of worried about lens cost on the Panasonic though.

Blah blah blah. Somebody's been watching the news! Somebody has probably been listening to Trump as well, blabber on about how dreadful the Chinese are. Well you make a political post, you get a political response.
Or somebody showing you the facts on why they're wrong about Chinese manufacturing.
Given time they will not just match Zeiss or Leica for lenses but surpass.
Even this early in the life of the lens manufacturers, they are doing quality items. You infer they are not, and that the whole country is basically evil.
Look at the images from this and tell me it isn't worth $700.
    https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-zhong-yi-mitakon-50mm-0-95-iii/
Or put your money where your mouth is and pay Leica prices.
And just because I am pointing out to you some facts, doesn't mean to say I am suddenly a communist.
Sure, the Chinese government is not a democracy. I hardly think a two party system like we have in the US and the UK is really all that much of a democracy either, but that's a separate discussion for another forum... And sure, criticise the Chinese companies for 'exposing their workforce to pollutants' but I don't see very much what this has to do with a camera forum... You started the topic based on quality of their technology, not the quality of their environment.
Trump is running scared from China, and clearly sees their advancements as a threat to various underperforming US blue chip companies.
I see this belief and fear is starting to take hold in some of the public as well.

I picked one up, only using it with manual Voigtlander glass, and having owned the a7rIII and the Nikon Z6, I really agree that it’s got the beat looking video of the bunch. The cine v profile with contrast dialed down is simply beautiful, especially skin tones ?
Really pissed though that they still don’t let you punch in to focus while filming and that the wave forms from the GH-series are gone.

There is a component of economic development involved with manufacturing, I can't find what it's called (I'm sure it'll have a name) but it goes basically like this:
Country decides it needs foreign investment to contribute to economic development It creates a policy (potentially linked to a limited geographic area) that provides incentives for foreign investment, often waiving things like taxes, regulations or minimum wage restrictions, and potentially guaranteeing investments Foreign investment starts and due to the cheap labor force, low cost manufacturing plants are created These plants produce relatively low quality goods, through a combination of low-levels of initial investment in the quality of the machinery, low cost low quality raw materials, low quality workmanship due to a largely uneducated workforce Over time the workforce builds a skill base and quality improves Investment results in economic development and benefits to the host country Over time another country sees this economic development benefit and starts it's own process, special waivers may lapse, workers may unionise, etc Assuming there is profit being made then the level of quality is raised such that they differentiate their products from the new competition If they don't want to raise the quality level of production then they move the operation to the new competitor country and start over again Japan was once the poor-quality cheaper competitor to the US, but caught up, China came after Japan, which is what this thread is about, but has long since caught up, many other asian countries came after that, and over the coming decades you will start to hear about African nations getting in on this act as well.
This is an interesting list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_technology_centers
In terms of the premise of your original multiple choice question, here's a question of my own:
The question is inherently racially biased and there is no way to answer it without accepting the premise and is therefore "a trap" The question is inherently logically skewed and there is no way to answer it without accepting the premise and is therefore "a trap" Pick one.

Voigtlander 40mm 1.2 with the A7III or A7s II. Plenty brightness for your needs and sharp from wide open. Anything wider or faster on full frame will up your budget considerably.

Webrunner5 is basically trolling the thread right now. He doesn’t own the Z 6 neither does he have any genuine interest in owning one. It’s just a matter of making the thread turn according to his pipe and instead of having a constructive and positive dialogue it becomes a meaningless back and forth with someone who doesn’t even own the camera.
    Its jonpais all over again.
I don’t like Sony but I don’t continuously bait the Sony threads. Poor Canon users have had a lot of it lately and I feel for them. Can’t write anything positive without ten people showing up screaming “crop”.

What are you talking about? I own the Z6 and the X-T3 and while I prefer the Eterna profile for video, the Z6 has incredible colors, much better than any Sony I’ve ever used and owned. And stop bitching all over the thread about the “crushed blacks” on the Z6 - use flat profile or me Reid’s z-log or dial it in using Nikons own software and I can promise you the DR is at least as good as in the d750, which I also used to own. That said the z6 unfortunately lacks some incredibly useful features when it comes to video, but good color or wide DR, it has it in spades.

The 4K full frame S1 is on my desk at EOSHD HQ and for the first time it's the final released camera that is shipping to stores, with firmware version 1.0. I couldn't offer any original files from my shoot in Barcelona as the firmware back then was version 0.7. So now's your chance, if you're wondering how good the initial 10bit codec is at just 72Mbit or how well it grades, to download my files and have a look for yourself...

What are you talking about? @DjangoDoesn’t look better than any of the competent full frame mirrorless cameras today. I see blown out hightlights, micro jitters and a fixed focal length. For stills yes maybe it’s worth the price, for video it’s a fucking joke.

Shooting at certain ISO's has been found to be a bad idea as shown in the video above. Example being 1600 iso is cleaner than 800. I think it has something to do with the native ISO's. 1600 is cleaner than 800, 3200 is cleaner than 2500 etc..

The banding issues in VFR seem really common too. It seems 60p is really the only good slo motion option. It does 4k 60p so that is not too shabby of an option though.

Simon Young reacted to Cliff Totten in Panasonic S1 4K 10bit video mode to be present at launch with Hybrid LOG Gamma
Cinema5D is reporting the S1 to test at about 12 stops of dynamic range using HLG gamma. This actually matches the Sony FS7 tests with SLog-3 gamma. It's hard to know if Panny will allow it's VLog upgrade to gain any more than 12 stops. I suspect they might lock it at 12 stops to give the EVA-1 a 1 or 2 stop dynamic range advantage. Who knows?
There is one very depressing thing that Cinema5D found out....NOISE REDUCTION IS HEAVY AND +/- NR CONTROLLS HAVE ZERO AFFECT!!
Ouch!....that one REALLY stings! If Panny has disabled the noise reduction controlls than we have no way to draw it back and save ourselves from heavy in-camera noise reduction.
As we all know,....noise reduction is a 100% DESTRUCTIVE PROCESS....once it's applied, it's artifacts can never be removed in post.
Im hoping their firmware just had a bug that Panny will fix soon.

I’m mostly concerned about the internal noise reduction, I really hope it’s not as aggressive as the one seen in the a7III at iso 6400 and above, even when dialed all the way down. If the S1 retains more detail  but with slightly more noise in the aforementioned iso:s it’s an instabuy for me.

Simon Young reacted to Andrew Reid in Panasonic S1 4K 10bit video mode to be present at launch with Hybrid LOG Gamma
Overlooked in the first articles about this camera is the 4K H.265 mode of the Panasonic S1. Similar to the Fuji X-T3, this will allow 10bit internal recording in HEVC with launch firmware version 1.0 - no need to wait for the paid 10bit update.
3840 x 2160 is available in 10bit at 24p, 25p and 30p with no crop - it is full frame.
The later paid update is for a higher bitrate 10bit 4:2:2 mode and V-LOG, but in the meantime 10bit H.265 provides the silky smooth colour of 10bit with HDR and much smaller file sizes.

For long-time GH1 to GH5 shooters like myself, loyal from the beginning, at a time everyone else was shooting Canon, the S1 is a milestone. I have a bit of an emotional attachment to it already, being the first Panasonic full frame camera. It is not my first L-mount camera though. I’ve been shooting with the Leica SL for a few years now and it is still the most clean, ergonomic, minimalist full frame mirrorless body. It cannot, however, match the sheer size of the feature-set on the £2000 Panasonic S1.

Simon Young reacted to deezid in Fuji X-T3 and X-T4 discussion
So basically nothing since the initial firmware (I've tried on Photokina last year) and an external recorder doesn't help either and H265 doesn't cause waxy skin with little to no definition and temporal noise reduction fighting against any signs of texture. Well - if you like it, it's all yours... So disappointing.
